The Second World War, 1939-1945
1. Explain why Germany was successful in the Second World War up to the end of 1941, but suffered ultimate defeat in 1945.
During World War two, most countries that were involved in WW1 were back at it again in 1939 specially Germany. Gernany was succesful at the starting years but manages to let that success escape in 1945. How was Germany suceesful starting in 1941? Germany set up numerous amount of sucessfull attacks on different nations. In 1939 Germany first hit was the Poland. Germany used ground and air tactics to defeat the Polish, they managed to create quick attacks used by tanks and airplanes, Germany’s air force put out the Polish rail roads making it difficult for transportation and on top of that, Germany destroyed the Polish air force. At this point the Poland were helpless at this point and their allies France and Britain weren’t able to help because both nations weren’t prepared and with the rail roads destroyed it made difficult for troops from its allies to transport to Poland and give them a hand. In 1940 Hitler’s troops invaded the Norweigan ports which is located at Dernmark, the reason why Germany took over the ports of Norway was mainly due to high level of iron-ore sources which was basically a treasure for the Germans. On the other side the British were planning on also taking over the ports (same ports that Germany took over) with some help from its ally, France. On the other side Germany did have some bad outcomes as in; Germany losing 3 cruisers and over 8 destroyers, but it was an easy take over. On the same year! Hitler’s made a very big choice by attacking Holland, Belgium and France, these attacks were all planned to be launched at the same time. First, Hitler attacked Holland by bombing Rotterdam which killed a large amount of people, Rotterdam weren’t prepared and they gave up 4 days right after the bombing. Germany moved on across the north into France by attacking the Dunkirks in May of 1940, they think this was a really good decision made because if it wasn’t for this plan, attacking the French would probably had failed. On this set of attacks on France, there were over 2.5 million troops involved and the British became involved in this conflict since they were allied with France. The official date of when the Germans actually took over Paris was on June 14 of 1940 and days later France suprisingly gave up, from this point, Germany controlled the nothern of France. Its kind of Shocking how France was defeated so quick by the Germans because France were strong back in WW1 and they fought Germany numerous times. But in World War two they weren’t strong, they were not prepared, France’s military were extremelly weak and on top of that, mistakes were made. In 1940 Hitler tries to attack Britain on air only, Germany tried to destroy the Royal Air Force which belonged to the British. Germany tactics attacks towards the RAF were by destroying harbours, ports, radar stations and munitions factories and i do think this was a very smart move because these were sources used by the British. Around 1941 Germany somewhat focused on helping its allies that planned on taking over land owned by other but on June 22nd, Hitler tought that the Russians would attack Germany due to most of Germany’s military were placed on the west helping their allies so they tried to anex certain parts of Russia but this wasn’t the best idea. In 1945 was when the Germans slowly started to fall apart. This all happened when the British secret service had people who were being “Nazi” but there Nazis members who were demanded to overthrown Hitler, the leader it self, by doing this they believed it would create peace agreements. Allies that were attacked by Germany on early 1940s, they teamed up to attack Germany, they wanted to put Germany back on its starting position.
2. "Retreats and defeats marked the first two years of the war for Britain." How far would you agree with this opinion?
ReplyDeleteIn my opinion i would say this was beyond true. The Germans managed to create 100% successful attacks on nations like, Holland, Belgium, France, Russia and even the British. But how is Britain connected with these attacks? The British were allied with some of the nations, and when these nations were being attacked Britain were suppose to give them a hand to help, but it never worked out, they weren't strong enough. So this is why i think this statement is true “Retreats and defeats” meaning they retreated and lost the first two years because of Germany.
3. Explain why you agree or disagree with the view that the Allied victory in the Second World War was secured mainly because of the contribution of the USSR.
When it comes to my opinion on a agreement or disagreement, i would have to agree on the contribution that the USSR had made to secure their victory. I agree because when the U.S. entered the war in 1941 and they Joined the USSR and on top the British were also together in this group. When the USSR, U.S. and the British were somewhat allied, they enormous and rigorous power. They showed Germany and Japan they power they had, there was no way that Germany and Japan would top this unbelievable power. Germany regardless attacked the Britain and they were completely not expecting the strength these three allies had. Hitler also tries to invade Russia but again they underestimated power Russia had and the bravery Russia had.
4. To what extent was Hitler responsible for and driven by ideological beliefs of Nazism?
I think Hitler was driven by Nazism belief through out from the beginning till the end. I think the Nazi movement were a group of extremists who tried taking over the world, who ‘hated’ Jews and only accept certain type of people. The holocaust for example was a really big and devastating event where millions of Jews died because of the Nazis, this was a cruel move. But on the other side, Historians are still debating if whether Hitler did this because of the overwhelmed power or because of the Nazi movement?
5. In what ways, and to what extent, was the Second World War "total war"?
I think the Second World war could be summed up as “total war” because of the events that happened, which were the numerous amounts of attacks Germany alone made on weaker nations, by taking over ports and harbors, by trying to destroy the Royal Air Force alone and many other events, but i also think one major event that happened during the World War two was the Holocaust, it was just a extreme/devastating event caused by the Nazis or the Germans it self, killing millions and millions of innocent people specially the jews. Total war, by the devastating and sad events. Total war for all the innocents that died. Total war for the power that took over a human being which was Adolf Hitler. This would be the reason why i think the Second World war would be summed up as “Total War” due to its destructive events.

1. Explain why Germany was successful in the Second World War up to the end of 1941, but suffered ultimate defeat in 1945.
ReplyDelete- Germany was successful in invading Poland even after the British offered their support to help. So this was a successful attack for the Germans. The Germans also were very successful the first 2 years in the war because they got rid of France early on in the war and with them gone, it was given them a closer advantage to victory. But sooner or later the Germans strength was tested in the battle of Britain. This was the first battle the British won and sent the Germans retreating. But the Germans made a big mistake by saying they got Japans back if America was to ever get involved into the war with Japan… let me just get this done and over with by saying that the Japanese attacked the US and ended up bringing them into the war so now the Germans had to worry about them. The Germans eventually ended up getting defeated in 1945 due to shortages of raw material and the overwhelming resources from the USSR and USA.
2. “Retreats and defeats marked the first two years of the war for Britain.” How far would you agree with this opinion?
- I wouldn’t say that was necessarily true. Because in one battle the Germans tried to wipe out the British air force, this battle was called the Battle of Britain. But in this battle the British made it clear that the Germans were not invincible. The British had new chains of radar so they could be warned when Germans were approaching. This put the British a step ahead of the Germans. This was a turning point for the British to bounce back with revenge. But other than that event and others occurring after that I would say the British were getting pretty beat up, so I would agree that they were getting beat up in the very beginning then things started to change but I wouldn’t say the first 2 years.
3. Explain why you agree or disagree with the view that the Allied victory in the Second World War was secured mainly because of the contribution of the USSR.
ReplyDelete- I disagree with this statement that the USSR’s contribution was mainly the reason why the Allies won the Second World War. My evidence to back up why I disagree is because America had a significant impact on the outcome of the war as well. In Packet 16 it said that the AXIS Powers lost the war because they had a shortage of raw materials and that they were taking on too much once the Allies started learning from their mistakes and failures in battle. But what mainly helps me prove my point is when it said that the COMBINED resources of the USSR and the USA had an overwhelming impact. So by that saying the USA and the USSR both having an impact on providing resources, it proves my point that the USSR was not the main reason why the Allies won the Second World War and is the reason why I disagreed with that statement.
4. To what extent was Hitler responsible for and driven by ideological beliefs of Nazism?
- I would say to somewhat of an extent that Hitler was responsible for the Nazism (a form of socialism featuring racism and expansionism). I say this because he specifically targeted the Jews and in areas where they had conquered territory during the war, the people that lived there were treated badly because they weren’t German. So I would say that he was driven by ideological beliefs of Nazism. Hitler was a strong leader no doubt, but I believe there was just a huge racist thing he had with Jews and wanted them all gone while he believed Germans also needed more living space.
5. In what ways, and to what extent, was the Second World War “total war”?
- In my opinion I would say that the Second World War was a “total war” mostly because of what Japan and Germany was doing to smaller countries that they took over. They were ruthless to the people, especially the Germans who were ruthless to the people that were not German, they either killed them because they were Jewish, made them slaves, or put them in bad living conditions in which they soon later died. I would also claim the Second World War as “total war” because Hitler had a plan to terminate all the Jews and he was really focused on it. So the ways “total war” was used in the Second World War was through the territory or combatants (engaged in fighting during a war) involved and how objectives were pursued. So yeah in my opinion I believe World War 2 was a “total war”.

1.Explain why Germany was successful in the Second World War up to the end of 1941, but suffered ultimate defeat in 1945.
-Germany was successful in the Second World war in many ways. Germany was successful by destroying Poland in war, actually beat them swiftly. Germany was very good of invading places like they did in April of 1940. Germany as you can see was very ruthless, and also beat France really quick. Germany wanted to make sure they were the top dog. Going into the stand of the war, Hitler made a costly mistake by bringing the USA into the war. With the power of Britain and the USA, Germany, Japan and definitely Italy didn't stand a chance. Putting Italy out of the war "contribute towards the final Allied victory". Hitler didn't want to give up which made the war EVEN longer. In conclusion the USA bomb Japan, which weakened Germany even more. Italy and Japan supported Germany and with out this, it lead to the ultimate defeat of Germany.
2."Retreats and defeats marked the first two years of the war for Britain". How far would you agree with this opinion ?
ReplyDelete-I would agree with this because if you go read Germany did struggle with Britain. When the Germans set an attack when they bombed "harbours, radar stations, aerodromes and munitions". Britain came back, Germany felt the air power that they had so Hitler called off the invasion, meaning he retreated. In my opinion Britain was turning the war around for World War two because actually gave Hitler and his Germany a run for there money. This is why there were retreats and defeats that marked the first two years of the war.
3.Explain why you agree or disagree with the view that the Allied victory in the Second World War was secured mainly because the contribution of the USSR ?
-I would agree the USSR contributed to the Allied to victory. The reason why I say this because Britain for the most part was handling there self against Germany. But having the USA in this to, this is like a powerhouse team. Hitler shouldn't never declared war on the USA, cause of this it was one of his "most serious mistakes". Germany having Japan on there side and that wasn't nearly enough. This too also marked a different road in World War two.
4. To what extent was Hitler responsible for and driven by ideological beliefs of Nazism ?
-Hitler to the FULLEST extent was driven by the beliefs of Nazism. Well for one the way he was brought up he was crazy, insane but a smart leader who knew what he wanted, and the crazy thing is people actually followed him. Were the people scared of him ? But going back to Hitler he made the Holocaust which was an "horror camp". Like I said Hitler killed a lot of Jews which was the people throughout the camp died. Hitler was going to practice or go with his beliefs in till he die, and a big reason why most people did fear him !
5. In what ways, and to what extent was the second World War "total war" ?
-Yes, the Second war was a total war. Reason why I say this because total war deals with "nuclear weapons", so examples of destruction of of production that people inflicted. Example of when the Germans bombed and destroyed there factories, and this happened because of the nuclear weapons that in forced this. This mostly happened i air crafts and also could be with ships too. Both Germany and the Allied groups used this and was kind of popular in this time frame. This was also important because it helped who ever was using this in war to inflict damage.

#1) Explain why Germany was successful in the Second World War up to the end of 1941, but suffered ultimate defeat in 1945.
- Germany was very successful in the Second World War up to the end of 1941. Germany defeated the Poles. The Polish railway system was destroyed by the Germans and so was the Polish air force. This also shows that Germany was very prepared and had great arms and navy. In addition, German troops occupied Denmark and Norway. But, after 1941, things did not go well for Germany. This is because in the summer of 1942 many countries began to get involved. For example, in the third battle Russia forced Germany to surrender. Russian troops fought Germany out and after having no more power and will to fight, Germany surrendered in May 1945.
#2) “Retreats and defeats marked the first two years of the war for Britain.” How far would you agree with this opinion?
- I do not agree with this opinion because the British was left alone to face the dictators since Holland, Belgium and France were defeated, but the British was far from being destroyed. For example, in the Battle of Britain, the British were successful because the German bombers were not properly armed, the radar stations gave them signs that Germany was approaching and lastly, the switch to bombing London was not a good idea because it relieved pressure on the airfields. Therefore, Britain was successful not defeated.
#3) Explain why you agree or disagree with the view that the Allied victory in the Second World War was secured mainly because of the contribution of the USSR.
- I agree with the view that the Allied victory in the Second world War was secured mainly because of the contribution of the USSR. They had common enemies, which were Germany and Japan. In fact, they defeated their enemies. At the end, the Allies and the USSR both emerged as the most powerful nations worldwide.
#4) To what extent was Hitler responsible for and driven by ideological beliefs of Nazism?
- Hitler was responsible for and driven by ideological beliefs of Nazism. He was totally against the Jews. He blamed them for Germany’s defeat during the First World War. In other words, the Jews were a threat to Germany and that is why he wanted to destroy and vanish them.
#5) In what ways, and to what extent, was the Second War “total war”?
- I can say that the Second World War was a “total war” because it was between entire populations, it had many attacks, invasions and battles, and because of all the damage Germany cause to all the other countries. In addition, total war means a war in which every available weapon is used and we can for sure claim that every weapon was used in the Second World War because as mentioned above, it was a war between entire populations.

1. Explain why Germany was successful in the Second World War up to the end of 1941, but suffered ultimate defeat in 1945.
ReplyDeleteHitler led Germany through a string of growing successes as they slowly conquered or acquired a large part of Europe through 1941. The defeat of Poland in 1939 set events in motion and after the five-month recuperation, Germany surged forward, placing Denmark, Norway, Holland, Belgium and France in their pocket preceding the great bombing of Europe and the blitzkrieg. Germany was able to revel in as much success as they did because the Allies could not yet believe in Hitler’s true power and motivation. They sat by as Germany gained momentum, but once it was clear that Germany would not ease up, and the Allies gathered their own strength. From 1942 to 1945, the Allies harnessed a momentum of their own, with the Battle of Britain acting as a prelude to the great defeat of Germany. Naval and air battles slowly crushed the Axis as the Allies, whose initial power and network was greater to their advantage. The final defeat was long in coming as while Germany and the Axis had secured some major victories, many foolish mistakes on their part were made as the Allies conversely carefully led the greater victory. What could be truly labelled the sole cause of the war’s reversal of roles occurred on December 7th 1941. The bombing of Pearl Harbor was an extreme tactical mistake as it drove the United States to declare war within 24 hours on not only Japan but her allies Germany and Italy as well. Once the American powerhouse was involved, the war could only be an impending doom for Germany.
2. "Retreats and defeats marked the first two years of the war for Britain." How far would you agree with this opinion?
Save for the Battle of Britain, I can come to agree with the assessment that Britain was suffering the brunt of the war’s damage in the first two years. She only suffered at the hands of the Axis and made no true effort to protect herself from the attacks being layered upon her and the majority of Europe. While Britain was little involved in the war before the RAF’s success in the fall of 1940 and the U.S.’s involvement in 1941, any interactions she did have with the Axis or the goings on of war were purely defensive.
3. Explain why you agree or disagree with the view that the Allied victory in the Second World War was secured mainly because of the contribution of the USSR.
The great powers of the USA and the USSR were what allowed for the defeat of the Axis in WWII. Without the aid of the USSR, the Allies would have been at a loss to contain Germany. Russian’s great troops and resources gave them the ability to suppress Germany effectively from ten east as the Allies secured the war. The alliance they joined became great and was an unexpected obstacle for Germany who underestimated Russia’s power and motivation.
4. To what extent was Hitler responsible for and driven by ideological beliefs of Nazism?
Hitler was instrumental in the rise of Nazi philosophy and became the figurehead as well as acting leader of the campaign. Based upon European traditions of Anti-Semitism, discriminatory traditions against the disabled and persecution of groups such as the Roma and homosexuals, Nazi beliefs grew mainly on warped extreme nationalist sentiments. Hitler portrayed the Nazi beliefs as righteous and patriotic, stating that any in the groups he targeted were not truly German and that heteronormative ‘Aryan’, healthy, German-speaking peoples were the only pure ‘race’. His campaign gained him sort in his war efforts and intentions of general conquer. He also became so wrapped up in his own psyche and Nazi propaganda that he went further than extremists before him. Without Hitler’s involvement, Nazi practices would have been minor and unique to smaller underground groups, not the cause of an era of genocide.
5. In what ways, and to what extent, was the Second World War "total war"?
ReplyDeleteThis war could be given the appellative “total war” considering the degree of world involvement and general investment in the conflict. More so than WWI, the Second World War was global; Japan, the USA, Russia, Britain, Germany, North Africa, Spain, Italy, France, Cuba, Canada, and Finland are only part of about 30 countries officially involved that make a nearly complete list of the countries of the 1940’s. The war was also the site of the first open aerial attack on citizens, the first large-scale modern genocide, never before formed alliances and revolutionary tactics and an extraordinary count of individual involvement with about 80 million soldiers and 60 million deaths besides. Due to the fact that modern technology and communication allowed for greater involvement than had been historically possible, World War Two could be said to be the greatest and most complete war on record.

1. Explain why Germany was successful in the Second World War up to the end of 1941 but suffered ultimate defeat in 1945?
- Germany was successful in world war 2 until 1941 because the Germans attacked Poland and they won without a big fight. They used tanks and the Luftwaffe which is the German Air Force. The Luftwaffe destroyed the Polish railway and their Air Force. The Polish weren't ready for a war and tried to attack the tanks head on and lost. The Germans also took France out the picture early and that gave them a good advantage. The Germans met with the British and German thought they was going to win that war until the Americans had came into the war with Britain. The Germans lost because all the resources overwhelming because if America and the USSR.
2. " retreats and defeats marked the first two years of the war for Britain". How far would you agree with this opinion?
- I say this is true because Hitler and Germany wanted revenge so he was prepared for war and had many soldiers. He came into the war and attacked France, Belgium, and Holland which were allied countries of the British. So the first two years was a defeat and retreats of the British.
3. Explain why you agree or disagree with the view that the allied victory in the Second World War was secured mainly because of the contribution of the USSR?
- I agree with this because the USSR was one of two countries that was able to fight with the Germans. Also the USSR had the same enemies Japan and Germany. Also they were able to put up with the Germans tanks and their Air Force.
4. To what extent was Hitler responsible for and driven by ideological beliefs if nazism.
- Hitler saw Jews as a problem because he felt they were the reason they lost the First World War. Also Hitler didn't see Jews as a part of the people he wanted in the world. So Hitler was driven by ideological beliefs of nazism.
5. In what ways, and to what extent was the Second World War " total war"?
- I feel like the Second World War was total war because they wanted revenge on all nations. Also every nation was involved, more allies were formed because of this. The Holocaust was one big event that made the Second World War total war because during a war Hitler was also killing innocent Jewish people and sending them to concentration camps where they were killed. Also Hitler wanted world domination and wanted Germany to be better than every other nation and to do that he had to destroy every other nation first.

1. Explain why Germany was successful in the Second World War up to the end of 1941, but suffered ultimate defeat in 1945.
- Germany was successful in the Second World War in many ways. One of the main ways that Germany was successful was because they defeated Poland. The German air force, known as the Luftwaffe, damaged the Polish railway system and ruined the Polish air force. Britain and France did not really help the Poles and so Poland ended up being split between Germany and the USSR. Another way Germany was successful was by invading Denmark and Norway. They were successful due to this invasion because they surprised the Norwegians and they didn’t have mobilized troops. Germany suffered ultimate defeat in 1945 because they lost 600 tanks and 250,000 men. Germany was invaded in the east and the west front. It came to point where Hitler decided to commit suicide and Germany then decided to surrender.
2. “Retreats and defeats marked the first two years of the war for Britain.” How far would you agree with this opinion?
- I do not agree with this opinion because Britain did not withdraw from the battle with Germany and also they did not get defeated. In this Battle of Britain, Germany and Britain fought in the air. The British air power, known as the Royal Air Force, made it clear to Germany that it was far from being ruined. After noticing this, Hitler decided to not invade Britain.
3. Explain why you agree or disagree with the view that the Allied victory in the Second World War was secured mainly because of the contribution of the USSR.
- I agree with this view because when the USSR, USA, and the British empire combined, they had four times more tanks than Germany had and they were able to have twice the number of men that Germany could put in the field. The American war machine was able to produce more than 70,000 tanks and 120,000 aircrafts a year. It was said that the Japanese and the Germans couldn’t match up with this combination.
4. To what extent was Hitler responsible for and driven by ideological beliefs of Nazism?
- Hitler was definitely responsible for and driven by ideological beliefs of Nazism. The Nazi’s were responsible for the treatment of the Jews. The Holocaust states that over 1.5 million people were murdered and most of them were Jews. There were also many other Jews murdered from 1941-1945. Hitler did not like the Jews at all and it was said that he planned to kill them ever since he came into power.
5. In what ways, and to what extent, was the Second World War “total war”?
- The Second World War was total war because of many reasons. One of the reasons is because there were many defeats, invasions, attacks, and battles. Also, there were many nations involved in this war and there were many deaths. There were big destructions such as: industries, homes, lives, and communications. There were no peace settlements between all nations. There were important social changes, which many people had to move from their houses. Lastly, there was a production of nuclear weapons.

The Second World War, 1939-1945
1. Explain why Germany was successful in the Second World War up to the end of 1941, but suffered ultimate defeat in 1945.
- Germany was successful in the Second World War up to the end of 1941, because during the war with Poland, Germany successfully defeated the Poles. By using the Luftwaffe to damage both the Polish air force and the railway system. Germany had well preparation for this battler and the confident to won. On the other side, Germany occupied Denmark and Norwegian in April, 1940. After 1941, things were not going the way Germany expected to go. Among the Battle of Britain, it was a clash between the RAF and the Luftwaffe. Germany attempt to bomb Britain and tried to destroy the RAF. But Germany was fail and this is an important turning point. In June 1941, Germany invaded Russia, but Russia force fought Germany hardly until they are out of power than capitulate Germany in 1945.
2. “Retreats and defeats marked the first two years of the war for Britain.” How far would you agree with this opinion?
- I don’t agree with this opinion because British success in the Battle of Britain. Germany wanted to crush the Britain by bombing the general strategic targets. But didn’t work out and switch to bomb London and other major cities. German wanted to break British strength but few days later the RAF savaged incoming Luftwaffe formations in the skies. Which it clearly show that the German air force fail, than Hitler called on invasion on Britain. The Britain successfully won and defeated the German.
3. Explain why you agree or disagree with the view that the Allied victory in the Second World War was secured mainly because of the contribution of the USSR.
- I agree with the view that the Allied victory in the Second World War was secured mainly because of the contribution of the USSR. The Allied and USSR join together become a powerful strength over countries and they successfully defeated their enemies.
4. To what extent was Hitler responsible for and driven by ideological beliefs of Nazism?
- Hitler was responsible for and driven by ideological beliefs of Nazism because Hitler opposed the Jews and even though they live in Germany but not consist of Germans. The reason why Hitler against the Jews because he is blaming them for making Germany lost in World War I.
5. In what ways, and to what extent, was the Second World War “total war”?
- The Second War was a “total war” because it was a big war that the entire nation gets involved. And they all use their available weapons to fight for their own victory. They wanted to revenge because of their lost in the First World War. This time, there is no more peace agreement between countries because they want to use their own power to fight for their own victory.

The Second World War, 1939-1945
1. Explain why Germany was successful in the Second World War up to the end of 1941, but suffered ultimate defeat in 1945.
Germany was successful in the Second World War War up to the end of 1941 because they were very tactical and strategic. For example, Germany defeated Poland and destroyed many of their things. The polish railway system and the Polish Air Force were destroyed. The Germans not only occupie Poland but also Holland, Belgium and Norway. In 1945 Germany suffered ultimate defeat because not only were yet beaten but their enemy the USSR had the largest army in the worlds and was allied with the US which was too much for Germany to handle.
2. "Retreats and defeats marked the first two years of the war for Britain." How far would you agree with this opinion?
I wouldn't entirely with this opinion because countries that were with Britain were defeated and as a result retreated but Britain also had some success against Germany. Holland, Belgium and France were defeated in May and Britain wasn't defeated so they were left alone to face the dictators. The British also had property destroyed by the Germans like harbours, radar stations, aerodromes and munitions factories getting bombed. The Germans also tried to destroy the Royal Air Force but wasn't able to so Hitler stopped the in invasion. Britain faced some defeat from Germany but had a some successes. Their successes were having radar stations that would warn them of approaching German attackers and the German bombers were poorly armed and this battle was fought in the air which was good for Britain because Germany only had fuel to keep them in the air for about 90 minutes.
3. Explain why you agree or disagree with the view that the Allied victory in the Second World War was secured mainly because of the contribution of the USSR.
I would agree because they both had the same goal and it was to defeat Germany an Japan. The US and the USSR had many more weapons than Germany Japan. They had four times as many tanks as the Germans and had twice as many men by 1945. The Americans were able to turn out over 70,000 tanks and 120,000 aircrafts a year and Germany or Japan weren't able to do that.
4. To what extent was Hitler responsible for and driven by ideological beliefs of Nazism?
Hitler was most definitely driven by ideological beliefs if Nazism. Hitler resented Jews, gypsies and homosexuals and he wanted to torture them and exterminate them. He also exterminated soviet prisoners of war and poles that were against Germany's occupation of Poland. These murders took place in various camps like Majdanek where 1.5 people were murdered. There were at least 20 camps that were set up by the Germans and considered the operation of extermination the "Jewish problem". Between December 1941 and May 1945 some 5.7 million Jews were murdered and also people who weren't Jews like gypsies, socialists, communists, homosexuals and the mentally handicapped. Hitler was totally responsible for all of those murders even if he was driven to them.
5. In what ways, and to what extent, was the Second World War "total war"?
I would say the Second World War was definitely a "total war". The reason for that is because there weren't only a couple of countries involved but numerous amounts of countries. The Second World War wasn't just a small disagreement between two countries it was much more than that. It was a full blown international dispute involving countries that were enemies and as a result a huge war was started.

1.Explain why Germany was successful in the Second World War up to the end of 1941, but suffered ultimate defeat in 1945.
Germany was successful in the Second World War because they destroyed Poland. Germanys air force was mainly known as the Luftwaffe. The germans took out the polish railways and also destroyed their air force. When it came down to Britain and France to help they helped very little. They didn’t have that much part germany did it all alone. Germany and USSR had to split poland. Germany suffered ultimate defeat in 1945 because Russia had fought them out and they didnt have anymore power so they ended up surrendering .
2."Retreats and defeats marked the first two years of the war for Britain." How far would you agree with this opinion?
I think this statement is true because germany was very successful when they was at battle with the other countries but when it came to britain helping when they was suppose to they didn’t give there hand when they said they would. They were allied with some nations and that was what they was suppose to do help the others when they were under attack but they didn’t. so in my opinion I truly agree with this statement.
3.Explain why you agree or disagree with the view that the Allied victory in the Second World War was secured mainly because of the contribution of the USSR.
I agree with the view that the Allied victory in the Second World was secured mainly because of the contribution of the USSR. I agree because the USSR was able to fight with germany and they also had the same enemies that japan and germany had. But the USSR was very powerful.
4.To what extent was Hitler responsible for and driven by ideological beliefs of Nazism?
Hitler seem it as the “jews” were the reason he lost World War 1. That made him want to destroy them because he seen them as people that shouldn’t be part of the world he wanted them gone forever.
5.In what ways, and to what extent, was the Second World War "total war"?
Well first lets just say Germany had a lot to do with this. Germany had caused a lot of damage to other countries. Alot of nations were involved. They used every weapon to fight for their victory.

The Second World War, 1939-1945 Questions:
1. Explain why Germany was successful in the Second World War up to the end of 1941, but suffered ultimate defeat in 1945.
Germany was successful by defeating Poland and invading Norway and Denmark. German’s air force, the Luftwaffe was able to destroy the Polish railway system and the Polish air force. France and Britain did not want to help Poland on their situation with Germany. Later Poland ended up being split to Germany and the USSR, Germany was able get more land. When Germany invaded Norway and Denmark, it was a surprising move that Germany made that the Norwegians was surprised and did not have mobilized troops that they could defend themselves. The reason for Germany ended up into a defeat in 1945 was because they were losing troops and tanks that were so important to them during the war, and it made Germany weak with them being invaded in the eastern and western front. This situation made Hitler to realize there was no chance of Germany winning the war. He committed suicide and that is when Germany surrendered from the war.
2. “Retreats and defeats marked the first two years of the war for Britain.” How far would you agree with this opinion?
I do not agree with this opinion because Britain did not get defeated by Germany and did not even withdrawal from battle. In the Battle of Britain, Britain knew that German bombers were not armed, the radar stations gave Britain signs of Germany approaching, the switch for the bomb did not work out for Germany to bomb London, and Britain’s Royal Air Force was too much for Germany. So Germany and Hitler did not want to invade Britain probably because they were intimidated by Britain’s Air Force. There was no way that Britain was going to withdrawal from battle or be defeated by Germany.
3. Explain why you agree or disagree with the view that the Allied victory in the Second World War was secured mainly because of the contribution of the USSR.
I agree with the view that the Allied victory in the Second World War was secured because USSR was able to work together with the British Empire and U.S.A. on defeating Japan and Germany. When the USSR joined the Allies, they had everything increased, like military men, tanks and aircrafts. It was impossible for Japan and Germany to defeat the Allies and USSR because their military was twice their size combined and there was no way they could match up with the Allies and USSR competition. With the contribution of the USSR, the Allied victory in the Second World War was secured.
4. To what extent was Hitler responsible for and driven by ideological beliefs of Nazism?
Hitler was responsible for and driven by ideological beliefs of Nazism because Hitler really did not like Jews and blamed them for Germany being defeated in World War One. In the Holocaust, Hitler killed so many innocent Jews. Between 1941 and 1945, 5.7 million Jews were tortured and killed, even gypsies, communists, socialists, homosexuals, and mentally handicapped people were also killed. It was one of his big goals before he came into power and it driven him to accomplish it successfully.
5. In what ways, and to what extent, was the Second World War “total war”?
I think the Second World War was a “total war” because many different countries came in to the war with so many invasions, attacks and battles just because of Hitler doing some horrible things to innocent people and a lot of countries wanted the horrendous actions that Hitler was doing to be stopped. There were not much of peace settlements between other nations. A lot of social changes were been made during the war like people had to move their houses because of so much violence that they seen. That is why I think the Second World War was a “total war.”

1. Because of the World War 1, Germany had lost a lot of money, territory and anything they owned due to the Treaty of Versailles. The United States (of course) was generous enough to give money to Germany to give to France and Great Britain but these countries also need to give money to the United States. Being in such position of debt, Germany really saw themselves in the floor but not dead, a revenge return would change everything when WW2 took its course. As Hitler rose to power, he saw the treaty of Versailles as just a treaty that wasn’t enough to stop his Excellency in planning massive destructions so little by little Germany started to oppose and do what the treaty said not to do. After a while Germany had oppose to the treaty and do what the treaty said not to do which to other countries was terrifying and their self-steam was taken off because a monster rose from the ashes to destroy. Because of the Great depression, Hitler took massive control over how Germans at the time thought, promising them a better tomorrow if they supported his plans. These people were affected so they supported him but not only were they affected by the treaty, other countries were also affected as well. Germany Surpassed France and Great Britain’s control over them threw the treaty of Versailles because France and Great Britain were also affected by the great depression so there was a lack of government control because simply it was chaos. While uprising power, Hitler gave the yes for the Germans to find ways to improve their country and one big improvement were the Weaponry Factories. Even if Back in WW1, it was mandated by treaties that the German army was reduced, for the Germans it was nothing; More Guns meant more Power and more power meant victory! Terrorizing many countries in the Euro-continent gave the comfort and Ego to Hitler to continue with his massive destructions bringing a country up from the ashes that now were left behind to seek glory.
2. The quote “Retreats and Defeats marked the first two years of the war for Britain” can be agreed with. Returning to WW1, Britain and France really took almost everything Germany had which left a revengeful side to Germany. Having Hitler rise to power, led him to create a stronger and better Germany. Building a strong and better army with extremely good weaponry and tactics was no match to what Britain would expect for a country that back in WW1 was defeated. This lead to Britain to Step back and try to analyze Germany and why these two years were just constant attacking and retreating. Of course Germany saw this as an advantage to continue which is why the simple fights ended up in big fights that lasted two years. The Upraise of German power was to be scared of but as we know, destiny took its position and Germany failed, their power wasn’t forever.

ReplyDelete3. I can only partially agree with the saying that the victory of the allies was due to the contribution of the USSR in WW2. As we know, Germany was in a constant battle with Britain, lasting two years defeating them and Britain trying to hold them off, Germany was a huge threat which at the point of these two years Britain needed help. Now, the USSR (Union of Soviet Socialist Republics) did help them and decided to get involve but that can only be giving partial credit. The big part of the credit should be given to Britain because they were the ones to first fight Germany along with France. If the USSR hadn’t come in time there would only be two outcomes; Germany destroys the allies or Britain and France figure out a way to finish them. I can say that two years isn’t a couple of house shooting at each other, two years is a lot of time which is why that the mayor credit can go to the allies and the USSR can be given not so much.
ReplyDelete4. As we know Nazism means a form of socialism featuring racism and expansionism and obedience to a strong leader; which clearly represents Hitler. He could be blamed for everything he did but after he became a man and took power in Germany. From what have studied, we know that he was abused by His Father (which was his mothers Uncle) and brutally beaten for something that he never did. Now, this worked out to be a psychological problem that was later introduced when he took power. He wanted to create a “perfect world” which of course failed. Nazism came to work after taken over Germany threw his power reflecting his hatred and how affected he was from his childhood; this meant that the “Nazi-stic” side of Hitler was shown after all his tragedies that led to the way he was.
5. A rematch is always the best way to settle things when we believe that things are not fair. Germany felt like coming back to war and swoar for revenge which later came through Hitler shown in WW2. We can say that WW2 was a total war because the first one was not. The first one was the Great War that was fought by the allies and central powers that took away mostly everything from the central powers; its promoter, Germany. Now Loosing again in the 2nd world war was a total lost for Germany. Having to deal with this defeat, Germany has a total lost and this is why I believe that we can say this war was the total war.

The Second World War 1939-45
Explain why Germany was successful in the Second World War up to the end of 1941, but suffered ultimate defeat in 1945.
Germany was successful in the second world war leading up to 1941 because the Germans had a game plan. They knew that the league was going to be distracted by the Japanese invasions on the other countries, so they decided it was there time to struck. In 1940 Hitler's soldiers went and invaded Denmark because they wanted control of Norway because that territory manufactured weapons which would benefit them with armaments during the war.Germany had carefully organized battles in other countries where they knew that in the outcome he would be victorious. Another invasion that expressed Germany's success in the second world war up to 941 was the Polish invasion. Germany aggressively used her air force as an advantage in that battle she destroyed the polish air forces and also wounded and killed many of these soldiers. They were at mercy to the Germans. To make matters even worse, her own allies couldn't even help her and the Germans made sure of that. Germany had gotten rid of France earlier in the war. Primarily because the Germans really disliked the France due to the First world war, were they had lost to them and lost many of their land. And also because of the treaty of Versailles which the france was also part of, which the Germans had strong hatred towards. During this time the Germans keep track on what was happening and how they can get away which their actions without paying any conciseness. Because of this they became powerful. And also on the track also made alliances with other countries that were on the break out, like Japan and Italy who wanted to aggressively invade other countries to expand their territorial gains. Then the Germans went and suffered an ultimate defeat due to the fact that they became too egoistic of their achievements. They let their guards down and Britain and the other countries were right on their tail.
"Retreats and defeats marked the first two years of the war for Britain." How far would you agree with this opinion?
I would agree as far as that Britain did struggle to win the battles with the Germans and at a minority of them, Britain did get defeated and had to call or reinforcements. But Britain also put up a tremendous amount of resistance considering that all of her allies had been defeated by the Germans. And due to her Strength she had defeated Hitler in the battle of Britain. The Germans had thrown all of the attacks possible to take her down, They bombed London and also attempted to destroy the British air force like they did to the Polish but did not succeed.
Explain why you agree or disagree with the view that the Allied victory in the Second World War was secured mainly because of the contribution of the USSR.
ReplyDeleteI agree because with the help of the USSR the allied powers had four times the amount of tanks, and twice as many men as the Germans did with gave them an advantage against them. Even Germany’s and Japan’s armies put together couldn't out number them. Which need it easier to defeat them.
To what extent was Hitler responsible for and driven by ideological beliefs of Nazism?
It is to the full extent, because Hitler was the creator of the Nazi party. He brought up the concept and also manipulated the German citizen in there time to need, into believing that the jews were the enemies and they had to be destroyed and committing genocide . He used the depression in Germany and his speech skills as a scapegoat to escalate into power and promote the Nazi party into full force.
In what ways, and to what extent, was the Second World War "total war"?
It was total war because every major country was involved not like the first world war were it was mostly Germany, France, Russia, the Ottoman Empire, Britain and the United States. No this war was more globally involved and this time Germany took more independent actions more than it ever did in the first world war and all the countries were involved due to the great depression. No one was really dragged into the war, because they had a reason to get involved because there country was either on the verge of hunger and death or on the verge of invasion. It was more like every country for itself, because either your ally is struggling with economic issues, or they were trying to do damage control from the war that had occurred and which makes you on your own. Mainly because no one wanted to get into war after just finishing one. But because their country was at risk they went to desperate measures to keep it in sync and away from chaos.
ESSAY
ReplyDelete1. Explain why Germany was successful in the Second World War up to the end of 1941, but suffered ultimate defeat in 1945.
Germany was tremendously successful up until 1941. First, they easily defeated Poland with Germany’s famous Blitzkrieg tactics. Poland’s army and resistance had no such thing as motorized or armored units and fell to the Germans. Poland was split between Germany and the USSR after its defeat, a 5 month period known as the “phoney war” followed. Germany’s military power and tactics were amazingly strong and effective, which easily allowed them to take Norway, Denmark, Sweden, Holland, Belgium and France. The Germans were able to defeat their long-time rival, France, thanks to their power and France’s incompetence and confidence. For example, the French concentrated large amounts of forces in their “military genius” Maginot Line when the Germans never came close to it and breached through Belgium where there was no defenses; when the Germans entered France, the French never mobilized troops in the Maginot Line to defend themselves. Later on in 1941 the bombing of Pearl Harbor brought the USA into the War, which was the only great power at the time not involved. With the USA on their side and a series of errors by Germany (such as invading Russia during winter) the Allies turned the tide to their favor and advanced towards Berlin and ultimately capture it.
2. "Retreats and defeats marked the first two years of the war for Britain." How far would you agree with this opinion?
I definitely agree with this statement. Britain was getting constantly dominated by Germany until the Battle of Britain in 1941. Britain’s few efforts to aid France fell down. A remarkable retreat performded by Britain would be the Dunkirk retreat; although a severe blow, all the soldiers saved were able to fight again.
3.Explain why you agree or disagree with the view that the Allied victory in the Second World War was secured mainly because of the contribution of the USSR.
I agree with the statement, although I would include the contribution of the USA (which is not only nationalistic fanfare put in American books). The USSR used her resources and vodkapower to put up with the Germans at Stalingrad and drive them back, forcing them to surrender. Would the USSR not intervene, the German army would have been in stronger shape and could have defeated the Allies. The Soviet Union pummeled the German troops in the East and the USA aided in driving back those in the west.
4.To what extent was Hitler responsible for and driven by ideological beliefs of Nazism?
Hitler was key in the rise of Nazism in Germany. He was the main spokesman and the one who through his speeches and amazing tactician work managed to rise to the top and lead Germany with his beliefs. Nazism is an aggressive nationalistic spirit, which is what Hitler spoke about to the German people and used to support his expansionist goals. Furthermore, usually Nationalism is accompanied by xenophobia which was what Hitler aimed to do, remove all non-German groups from Germany such as the Gypsies and the Jews.
5. In what ways, and to what extent, was the Second World War “total war”?
ReplyDeleteWW2 was a total war in that the war went beyond Europe, into Asia, Africa, and the Americas. The war trickled into Asia thanks to the Japanese (such as their conquest of neighboring islands and nations) and due to the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor, the USA became involved. During the D-Day operation, Canada also participated in the assault. Mussolini invaded Egypt during the War and Hitler deployed his Deustches Afrikakorps into northern Africa (Algeria, Libya, Egypt, Morocco and Tunisia) to take ground in Africa in the form of colonies.
Now to the extent to which the term “total war” is true, it was almost completely true, because Total War means that all the world is at war, indeed all great powers of the world were fighting all around the World. But war never went into Australia, Central and South America or the Arctic (in which there is nothing of interest but penguins and The Thing according to John Carpenter). If one follows the term literally, then the term can only be applied to a certain extent, or if you decide to consider only the great powers capable of war then it is true to full extent.

1.Explain why Germany was successful in the Second World War up to the end of 1941, but suffered ultimate defeat in 1945.
There are many examples of Germany being very successful in the Second World War. For example, the attacks of Holland, Belgium and France. Hitler, the ruler of Germany, planed all of these attacks. He also won all of these attacks. Holland, Belgium and France were all defeated. Another example of how Germany was very successful was in 1941, Germany took over Greece. Greece’s allies tried to help but Germany was way too powerful at the time. However, Germany did have some failures throughout the Second World War. For example, the Battle of Britain in 1940. Germany went into war with Britain thinking they were undefeatable, when in reality their air forces wasn’t even all that great. Germany came into the war with 1389 planes and left the war with 597 planes. Germany felt embarrassed because they were defeated. Germany did make one huge mistake, they promised Japan that if the U.S attacked them they would help protect Japan. Japan wanted to act like they were tough and brought the U.S into the war, causing Germany to worry about the U.S going for them because they was allies with Japan. In 1945, the U.S got their revenge back and fought Germany. Germany got defeated because they didn’t have proper materials to battle. This war effected Germany because: 1. Germany was no longer invincible and 2. The other countries wasn’t afraid of Germany as much as they were before.
2.“Retreats and defeats marked the first two years of the war for Britain.” How far would you agree with this opinion?
I don’t really agree with this quote but there were some attacks that Britain did back down from. I disagree with this quote for the following reasons: 1.In the Battle of Britain; Germany went into war with Britain thinking they were going to win this war because they won all of their other wars with other countries. But in reality Britain defeated Germany and Germany was the one who backed off NOT Britain. 2. In the packet it states “the British soon drove the Italians out of Egypt and captured 130,000 prisoners and 400 tanks.” Nowhere does say Britain was defeated or took a retreat. I also agree with this quote to some extent because: when Hitler was invading Greece the allies of Greece went to protect Greece. At the end Britain ending up withdrawing from the war because Germany captured so many of their troops. This is why I agree with this quote a little bit because there were only a few examples of Britain backing down.
3.Explain why you agree or disagree with the view that the allied victory in the Second World War was secured mainly because of the contribution of the USSR.
ReplyDeleteI disagree with the view that the allied victory in the Second World War was secured mainly because of the contribution of the USSR. I disagree with this because the packet states “the overwhelming impact of the combined resources of the USA, the USSR and the British Empire.” This packet states three sources that helped the allied victory in the Second World War. The way the Americans helped was by having such a huge amounts of tanks and aircraft. Germany and Japan couldn’t even compare to such amount. The British Empire and the USSR came together with the USA to defeat Germany and Japan.
4.To what extent was Hitler responsible for and driven by ideological beliefs of Nazism?
I believe that Hitler was fully responsible for and driven by ideological beliefs of Nazism. I believe this because Hitler hated every single Jew. He wanted every Jew to die and to surfer. So why not have some responsibility for and driven by ideological beliefs of Nazism? Hitler made it very clear that he hated the Jews; he was practically just saying it out loud.
5.In what ways, and to what extent, was the Second World War “total war”?
The components of war: 1. Many nations involved 2. Deaths 3. Effects/Results 4. Weapons 5. Causes
The Second World War had all of these components. There were many nations involved some of them were Russia, Germany, Japan, USA, Holland, Belgium, France and Britain. That is quite a lot of nations. 2. So many people died in this war, so many people that I lost count adding up the different numbers from each country. 3. There were man effects and results; some countries lost or gained places and some countries’s population even decreased. 4. In this war they used weapons such as tanks, machines and guns. 5. The main cause for the Second World War was just to get revenge. With the way World War One ended Germany wanted to get his revenge back for having to pay all of the unnecessary payments and having the whole blame on them.
1.Explain why Germany was successful in the Second World War up to the end of 1941, but suffered ultimate defeat in 1945.
ReplyDeleteGermany was successful in the first years of world war too. It began all with the ''Polenfeldzug'' in which germany invaded Poland. After the invasion it got better and better for Germany also because Britain and France couldn't really help Poland (They were allies) and they were not prepared Germany also invated France but after two years of successedness, Germany had to realize slowly, that not everything was as they had dreamed of. After they fought against britain, and lost, it went down for Germany. After the USA came into the war, it got even worse for Germany and after the USA destroied Japan, you could say, that Germany almost lost the war. However, Hitler did not even tought about giving up. So it went on and on until Germany, all destroied and weak, realized that they could not win anymore.
2. Retreats and defeats marked the first two years of the war for Britain". How far would you agree with this opinion?
In my opinion, I would say this statement is as good as true because the first two years of world war two weren't really two good years for britain. They had a lot of trouble with Germany, couldn't really help Poland altough they were allies and they got attacked. A lot of their allies countries were also attacked, what didn't really made them stroger. They had to live with a lot of retreats and defeats.
3. Explain why you agree or disagree with the view that the Allied victory in the Second World War was secured mainly because of the contribution of the USSR.
In World War 2 Russia was on germany,s side until the nazis decided to invade Russia. The russians killed many germans upon invasion and really took a toll on the german forces. In the battle of stalingrad alone more thann a million germans died. The invasion of Russia was Hitler#s biggest mistake and costed him the war.
4. To what extent was Hitler responsible for and driven by ideological beliefs of Nazism?
Hitler was the one, that brought all the Nazi scene to be 'popular'. He was from beginning of Word war two till the bitter end THE 'perfect' Nazi. With all his propaganda, he brought a lot of people, who did not think about what he was doing, to follow him and his ways of being cruel and terribly. He wanted it to be the 'perfect' Germany with only the 'perfect' germans. No Jews, no homosexuals, no different skin colour and not even black hair and brown eyes sometimes. He wanted everyone to be equal. Blue eyes, tall, blod hair. So, he led the rest been killed by his followers. But there were also some people who helped the 'different' people to hide so they could live. Sadly, there was a lot of monitoring, so the Nazis found a lot of the hidden people and killed not just them, but also the people who tried to protect them.
5. In what ways, and to what extent, was the Second World War "total war"?
In my opinion it already started at the really beginning with the invasion of Poland.
The 'total war' was oviously when all the countreis started to interfere into the war. It was also 'total war' because Hitler tried to eradicate all people who were different from the german 'ideal image' (it was called so).

The Second World War 1939-1945
1.Explain why Germany was successful in the Second World War up to the end of 1941, but suffered ultimate defeat in 1945.
Germany had been doing well in the Second World War up until 1941. In 1939, Germany had quickly defeated Poland, putting their railway system out of commission and annihilating the Polish air force. After Poland, Hitler and his army proceeded seize Denmark and Norway in 1940 for industrial purposes. Germany had even managed to take down Holland, Belgium, and even France. In wasn't until 1942 when things went down south for Germany. The allied powers combined their military forces together in which helped them in order to put a stop to Germany and Japan’s attacks.
2."Retreats and defeats marked the first two years of the war for Britain." How far would you agree with this opinion?
I can disagree that retreats and defeats marked the first two years of the war for Britain. In the Battle of Britain, the British air force did a pretty good job fending off Germany. The British had new radar stations that warned them when Germany was approaching. Britain had put Germany in check, letting them know that they were not truly invincible.
3.Explain why you agree or disagree with the view that the Allied victory in the Second World War was secured mainly because of the contribution of the USSR.
I somewhat agree that the victory of the allies was secured by the contribution of the USSR. It is no doubt that the USSR had helped the allied powers immensely. But it was the contribution of the USSR and America that that brought victory to the allies. `America had prospered greatly from supplying the allies with so many war materials and food and it was also the combined powers of the American air force and the allied navy that defeated the Japanese in the Pacific war.
4.To what extent was Hitler responsible for and driven by ideological beliefs of Nazism?
Some historians would say that Hitler was responsible for the ideological beliefs of Nazism. Some historians believe that Hitler was responsible for these beliefs because he truly saw Jews as a threat to Germany. He blamed the Jews for most of Germany’s problems as well as Germany’s defeat back in WW1 and wanted their complete annihilation. Some historians believe that Hitler was driven by the ideological beliefs of Nazism and even go as far as to call him a weak dictator because he often persuaded by the ideas of others rather than taking matters into his own hands.
5.In what ways, and to what extent, was the Second World War "total war"?
The Second World War could be called “total war” do to the many events that happened during this time period. There were many more countries who were involved in this war compared to WW1 and the amount of death and destruction that occurred is indescribable. The Second World War was the first war where innocent citizens were attacked and where acts of genocide had occurred. Through this war, came the production of nuclear weapons which thankfully weren't used due to too many people being frightened by the consequences of using such weapons.

1. Explain why Germany was successful in the Second World War to the end of 1941, but suffered ultimate defeat in 1945.
World War Two had been very actively advanced, Germany was lucky enough to settle with Poland. They then reckoned the polish. They also joined the
Norway and Denmark. Germany had suffered in 1945 after the bombing in Hiroshima and Nagasaki which led them to give up.
2. "Retreats and defeats marked the first two years of the war for Britain." How far would you agree with this opinion?
I disagree that "retreats and defeats marked the first two years of the war for Britain" because they were so harsh for neglecting Britain. Britain had to face its dictators on its own which wasn't fair.
3. Explain why you agree or disagree with the view that the allied victory in the Second World War was secured mainly because of the contribution of the USSR.
I agree that the allied victory during the World War Two was safe mainly because the USSR, they were very helpful they joined together and became very powerful.
4. To what extent was Hitler responsible for and driven by ideological beliefs of Nazism?
Hitler was responsible for the ideas of Nazism because he strongly hated the Jewish and the result to that was the torture he put the Jews through. He felt that they were the cause of the First World War so he treated them badly.
5. In what ways, and to what extent, was the Second World War "total war"?
The Second World War was a "total war" because it involved multiple countries which caused the war to react in different ways informs of conflicts. They used weapons in their power to destroy each other during these wars.

The Second World War 1939-1945
1. Explain why Germany was successful in the Second World War up to the end of 1941, but suffered ultimate defeat in 1945.
-The way Germany was successful in the 2nd world war was because they occupied Poland. The poles were overpowered by Germany. Germany’s air force put the polish railway system out of act and they dominated there air force also. Germany has been rearming so that benefited them because they’ve been doing it since 1933, they were prepared for war. While other countries in Europe were not so prepared, in fact they were slow to rearming. Now the reason why Germany suffered the ultimate defeat in 1945 was because she failed to regain her power economically, diplomatically, and military. Since she wasn’t strong in any of those 3 categories at the time she was forced to sign a unconditional surrender at the allied headquarters on May ,7,1945.
2."Retreats and defeats marked the first two years of the war for Britain." How far would you agree with this opinion?
- I would disagree that "Retreats and defeats marked the first two years of the war for Britain” far because Britain was treated unfairly. They derelict Britain, they had to face many other consequence on their own. But Britain was not unbeatable because they had networks to show them when Germany was coming to attack them.
3.Explain why you agree or disagree with the view that the Allied victory in the Second World War was secured mainly because of the contribution of the USSR.
-I agree because the USSR benefits abundantly. But since the USSR help gain materials and other resources and that helped gained victory in the Second World War. The USSR definitely supports the Allied powers, but I think it was mostly the contributions of it that actually gained the success.
4. To what extent was Hitler responsible for and driven by ideological beliefs of Nazism?
- Honesty I believe that Hitler took full responsibly for the ideological beliefs of Nazism. He obviously saw that the Jews were a threat to him and Germany. He blamed it everything on them and that led to him killing many Jews. The ideological beliefs of Nazism were just him taking problems into his own hands.
5. In what ways, and to what extent, was the Second World War "total war"?
-The Second World War was called total war because of all the events that happened and their unlimited significance impacts that it had on many people. Many countries were involved and had a huge part. So the Second World War being a total war I could agree with to a large extent because there most definitely a lot more destruction than ww1 and it killed any people. For example like the Holocaust that had a huge impact. So that’s how the Second World War was a “total war”.

1. Explain why Germany was successful in the Second World War up to the end of 1941, but suffered ultimate defeat in 1945.
The Germans were successful because of Hitler and his genius plans. Germany had been successful in the defeat of Poland because the French mobilization had been slow which meant Poland had no back up from their ally Britain and France. Poland didn’t have the right number of soldiers and equipment need to fight off the Germans. As a result Germany saw the disadvantage and immediately attacked leading to an easy victory against Poland. Germany had then invaded Denmark and Norway because Norway had the best place to get Swedish iron. Germany had a goof air force navy and was well established in Norway making it difficult for British to fight the Germans. Hitler when right ahead and attacked Holland, Belgium and France one after another, part of the reason why France had surrendered was because they had military forces split up into divisions which gave Germany a huge advantage with their air force navy and military size, leaving Germany with a lot of power. When the bombing of Pearl Harbor had occurred the united stated had became involved with the war and Germany had kept fighting with everyone even though it came to a point where Germany had done too much and couldn’t keep up with the war. British, France and U.S.A. got together and took on Germany until Germany came to realize that it was time to surrender.
2. “Retreats and defeats marked the first two years of the war for Britain. “How far would you agree with this opinion?
I only agree with the retreat part and I disagree with the defeat part. The reason why I agree with Britain retreating for the first two years is because the British army had done a poor job with helping out other nations such as Poland because of the weak mobilization resulting in difficulties to transport troops. Britain had no control on the Norway ports and Germany came and took over so Britain had to basically retreat from there. I disagree with Britain being defeated because Britain had also fought back and did as much as they could. In the battle of Britain, the British had overpowered Germany with the air forces letting Germany know that they are going to go down without a fight, which is why I agreed and disagreed with the quote.
3. Explain why you agree or disagree with the view that the allied victory in the Second World War was secured mainly because of the contribution of the USSR.
I agree because I think that without the contribution of the USSR the allies could have been at risk against Germany, but with the help of the USSR there was no way that Germany could stand a chance. I say this because when Germany attacked Russia and Germany had been defeated badly by the Russians alone. So with the combinations of the allies and the USSR Germany could not take on all.
4. To what extent was Hitler responsible for and driven by ideological beliefs of Nazism?
Hitler was fully responsible because he was the main reason why Nazism had started in Germany. Hitler had given many speeches in order to get people in Germany to believe what he believed. I think Nazism was Hitler’s main goal besides gaining territory mad military size, Hitler wanted to have a place filled with a true race and he increased the size of Nazism with his excellent speeches and his intelligent tactics.
5. In what ways, and to what extent, was the Second World War “total war”?
I think that the Second World War could be considered and a total war because of the numerous amounts of events and countries that were involved in ww2. Germany was invading any country they could and thought they were unstoppable, Pearl Harbor had been a huge deal leading the United States into ww2, and Japan had also gotten out of control just like Germany. Basically almost every country was involved in ww2 and alliances were being formed in order to survive the war.
