    1. Describe fascism ?
    - Fascism is a political movement that has to do with getting power and keeping power like a dictator. This was used by Hitler during world war 2 because he felt that Germany need him and he changed many things like putting all the Jews In a concentration camp. For example in packet 17 " obsessive preoccupation with community decline, humilation or victimhood." Hitler humiliated the Jewish people by killing them and putting them in concentration camps.
    2. How are fascist Italy and nazi Germany different?
    - fascism was authoritarian under Mussolini. He felt that Italy was better than every other country and Hitler thought the same thing nazism in Germany said that the Aryan's race was better than every other race.
    3. Describe the five stages of fascism?
    - There are five stages of fascism and the stage is the initial creation of fascist movements. The first stage is talking about how there should be new ways of looking at the world. The second stage is their rooting as parties in a political system. This is saying that fascism defined by its clothing. The third stage is the acquisition of power this is saying that this made the leader take the power to his or her head. The fourth the exercise of power which means how the people demenstrate their power Hitler showed his power by killing Jews. The last stage is radicalization or entropy this is saying that the leader had to be caution of what they were doing.
    4. Why do fascists like to call themselves revolutionaries?
    - fascists called themselves revolutionaries because the revolution was a way of hardening the character and energizing the community. It also says that people that remain faithful when fascism was going threw a hard time. It says in packet 17 that people who abandon facism was not called a revolutionaries. For example " sternhell has put his fingers precisely on what distinguishes those revolutionaries who abandon early fascism".
    5. Describe the fascist understanding of modernity?
    - Fascists founded modernity as a system of authority and discipline in the eye of their citizens. For example in packet 17 " they combine technical modernity with a system of authority and discipline intended to suppress the disorderly social consequences of industrial expansion". The became ambiguous of the text.

  2. 6. Why is fascism the most original political novelty if the 20th century?
    - Fascism in the 20th century in Europe had rules like you had to be a characterized as a educated leader. Also they learned how to do debates. All fascists had a limited popularity. Also it said they had no deep thinkers they did stuff that pop right into their minds. That could be one reason why their was always chaos and war always happening.
    7. How does " comparison" related to fascism? How is " comparison" a way of thinking wore than a method?
    - It says fascism is a way of motion and how you need to pay more attention than anything because if you don't things can change and you wouldn't even notice. Comparison is a way of thinking more than an method because people across the nation should identify the factors in specific causes for example " comparison works revealingly with fascism since every western society had contained at least some marginal example".
    8. How is the kkk a fascist group?
    - The Ku-Klux-Klan was a fascist group because they saw a problem with African-Americans voting and they decided to take matters into their own hands to get rid of them for example " fearing the vote of given I African Americans by the radical reconstructionists in 1867, set up a militia to restore an overtuned social order. The klan constituted an alternate civic authority, parallel to the legal state".
    9. How did fascism grow among farmers?
    - Fascism grew among farmers because fascists were open minded and a war happened in the countryside. Also the farmers played a role in the interwar with France. The leader definded the farmers because they became representatives for social and economic.
    10. What leader are considered to be fascists in this reading?
    - Hitler and Mussolini were fascists because they felt that they had a purpose and they needed to make a change. The traits that describe a fascists go with Hitler and Mussolini. Mussolini felt that his people were the better race and all the other races were not as important as his race. Hitler felt that the Jews were the reason they lost world war 1 so he tried to get rid off all Jews by killing them or putting them in concentration camps. He also felt that the government was not doing there job right so he decided to take over and become a dictator.

    1. Describe Fascism.
Fascism is an ideology, both political and social. It revolves around the idea that members of a certain group (or country) should be proud of belonging in that group, nationalism in other words. Fascism with a capital “F” refers to Mussolini’s ideology and goals towards building a “New Roman Empire”. Fascism (as a general term) usually has its roots in preserving the culture and customs of an ethnic group and expel any foreign influence or the foreigners themselves. The political side of the term refers to totalitarian government in which everything is for the state, by the state.
    2. How are Fascist Italy and Nazi Germany different?
Hitler’s Nazism differs from Mussolini’s Fascism in that his ideas veered more towards ideas of race and the superiority of a race (Aryans). Italian Fascism was focused on returning Rome (Italy) to its former glory.
    3. Describe the Five Stages of Fascism.
The first stage refers to the creation of a fascist movement within a country, a process which is more or less confusing. It appears that for a movement to be successful, there must be crisis in a country for people to start thinking outside the “box” (left or right wings) and organize into something else and a weaker government to not suppress the movement(for example: Greece). Then once the fascists have enough power, they can then “play by the big man’s rules” and gain political presence and power. The third stage is when the fascist political group acquires power in a nation. The fourth stage is how the fascist government actually exerts power in the nation, which is usually irregular due to the “four way struggle” (Paxton). The fifth and final stage refers to the variations of such fascist ideology emerging and either affecting the fascist rule or competing with it.
    4. Why do fascists call themselves revolutionaries?
Fascists want big change in the country, a complete revolution (hence the term revolutionaries). Revolution was a way to unite and energize the people into a single movement. Since most fascist movements come in times of crisis, their idea is to fix the situation of the country (or group) and bring glory to them.
    5. Describe the fascist understanding of modernity.
Fascists viewed modernity as a way of providing discipline and order to their “new” country in this new age. Since the phenomenon of industrialization and modern technology was still young, they created their own view of modernity, where there would be no left or right in the political party and society would be united and disciplined.
    6. Why is fascism the most original political novelty of the 20th Century?
I believe this movement was seen as a novelty and original as in that it was unexpected. The rise of fascism to power and to such scales had not been previously seen. Another factor would be its strange “third wing” position. Fascists did not associate with neither the right nor the left wing so their ideologies and political traits are not clearly positioned in the “political box” of either left or right.
    7. How does “comparison” relate to fascism? How is “comparison” a way of thinking more than a method?
Comparison relates to the way that many fascist movements can be compared with common traits and ideas. It could also relate to the comparison drawn between “us and them” (we are better than these other people) commonly found in fascist ideas. “Comparison” as a way of thinking is more related to the way that the fascists group compares their group to others as previously mentioned.

  5. 8. How is the KKK a fascist group?
Well, first of all they are very conservative (preserving the traditional values of their race). Second, they preach that they have a religious right for the white race to be in the USA and want other races out of the country, they especially dislike people of African descent (one group over the other, or the America for the Americans phrase). Third, they blame of economical problems all other races but them and want to restore their country’s glory.
    9. How did fascism grow among farmers?
Fascism appealed to farmers due to the crisis that affected them in a very negative way. It was able to grow only in Italy and Germany, where the country was so brittle that the state could not do much to dissipate the movements and the farmers’ landowners also sided with the farmers’ views instead of helping the state contain them.
    10. What leaders are considered to be fascists in this reading?
The main ones: Adolf Hitler and Benito Mussolini, Because of their desires to create a revolution in the country during times of crisis. They both wanted to unite the people of the country into returning the glory of their countries and energizing the spirit of nationalism and enthusiasm in their countries. Both had a degree of “we are better than them” ideology regarding the group that they belonged in.

    1. Describe fascism.
Fascism is basically when a country or community has like a dictator who controls the lives of everyone and will do whatever it takes to make their country better everyone else’s. When there is fascism, freedom is limited and specific rules are made by a political movement leader.

    2. How are fascist Italy and Nazi Germany different?
Fascist Italy is different from Nazi Germany because both countries focus mainly on one thing and in the end they just want what’s the best for the country. Mussolini wanted to expand Italy’s territory and make it as strong as possible, and increasing their military size. On the other hand Hitler wanted to do the same but he was more focused on the Jews and getting rid of them. He wanted a pure, true race in Germany and blamed everything on the Jews.

    3. Describe the five stages of fascism.
The first stage of fascism is to have movements in a country as a political leader. The second stage of fascism is to root as a party in a political system, which means to like contribute as a group or community to work as a political system. The third stage is the acquisition of power, meaning that the political leader should be in power. The fourth stage is about how you’re going to use your power and how to manage it. The fifth and final stage is about radicalization, which is how a group had to adapt to new beliefs even if it’s violent or not.

    4. Why do fascists like to call themselves revolutionaries?
Fascists like to call themselves revolutionaries because they focus on change than to make things more justified. Fascists don’t worry about what’s fair for people ,they plan on making a stronger economy and have a system that are full of rules set by governments and political leaders. Fascists change everything to their own likes, revolutionizing their community.

    5. Describe the fascist understanding of modernity.
The fascist understanding of modernity is that modernity basically means to move forward as a country, such as the military, and economy. Mussolini used fascists texts to resolve conflicts and Hitler did the opposite.

    6. Why is fascism the most original political novelty of the 20th century?
Fascism is the most original political novelty of the 20th century because the political system was basically based on national dictatorships. All the fascist leaders had the same thing in mind to expand territory and to have a stronger military than every other nation. The 20th century was a very hard time for every nation and many violent things were done by fascist leaders such as Hitler.

  8. 7. How does “comparison” relate to fascism? How is “comparison” a way of thinking more than a method?
Comparison relates to fascism because fascists’ leaders compared their own country’s to others because they want to have a better and stronger nation than everyone else. Without comparison there’s no fascism. Comparison is a way of thinking more than a method because fascist leaders need to think how they’re going to make their country better than anyone else’s.

    8. How is the KKK a fascist group?
The KKK is a fascist group because it was a group that wanted to succeed more than others using violence. For example the KKK group wanted to be better than the African Americans and didn’t want them to succeed so they killed them as a way to the solution. People in the group had to wear a specific uniform and had to do what they were told by leaders in the group.

    9. How did fascism grow among farmers?
Fascism has grown among farmers because farmers were the main source of food production and farmers have helped many people in war with the economic problems.

    10. What leaders are considered to be fascists in this reading? Why?
Mussolini is considered to be a fascist because he wanted to improve Italy as a country overall. Mussolini wanted to have better people, a stronger military, and more territory added to Italy because he wanted to have a country better than anyone else. Hitler is also considered to be a fascist leader because he wanted to get rid of tall the Jews because he thought that they were worthless, and Germany needed to have a pure race.

#2) How are fascist Italy and Nazi Germany different?
    - Fascist Italy and Nazi Germany differ because of its leaders and what they believed in. The state was very important for Italians and racism was very important for Germans.

#3) Describe the five stages of fascism.
    - There are five stages of fascism. The first stage is a problem of timing. Since it was unexpected, it was not easily understood. The second stage was created by mimicry. This stage was mainly focused on what really was considered fascist because to mimic something means to copy something. Therefore, the people were confused in what was really fascism. The third stage was basically caused by time. Time was an issue because the transformations and accommodations demanded by fascism required time and people were eager to know what fascism was, they did not want to wait. The fourth stage is all about the “isms.” This includes conservativism, liberalism and socialism. The fifth and last stage is all about overuse. By this I mean, everyone is someone’s fascist.

    1. Describe fascism.
Fascism started in Italy, originally founded by Benito Mussolini. Its a way of ruling and the Italian Kingdom by strict rules and also with an ideology, like the Nazis ideology but different, their idea is to expand the land of Italy and resolve economic issues between various type of classes throughout Italy.

    2. How are fascist Italy and Nazi Germany different?
The Nazism from Germany is just an extreme Fascism from Italy. Fascism by Mussolini, ideology is more of a liberal/communism type party while on the other side Nazism by Hitler, is the same thing, yet it's filled with racism towards the Jews which in the future made the Nazis look really bad because of millions of innocents killed. Hitler and Mussolini had the same views with expanding their lands.

    3. Describe the five stages of fascism.
The five stages of Fascism are stages describing how complex is to understand the meaning of Fascism. The first main complication towards understanding Fascism was already at the begging in which the population of Italy wasn't expecting the change to come. The second complication was the practicing of Fascism, George Orwell describes that Fascism is not characterized by the clothes worn by certain classes in Italy or people that were part of the Fascist movement. The third complication is the regions that would understand Fascism better than Italy itself. One example is about religion, religion would be much easier to explain in the United States than it would in Europe and this is different because of different evolutions in different nations. The fourth complication is about how Fascism controls the “isms” of the nineteenth century in Europe and by “isms” i mean the conservatism, liberalism and socialism in which was effective back in the 19th century but Fascism had a different point of view towards it. Finally the last, a lot of people in Italy always wondered where the word Fascism came from in which they described that you were someones ‘Fascist’ and everyone's was your ‘fascist’ and this was very hard to understand.

    4. Why do fascists like to call themselves revolutionaries?
Fascist called themselves revolutionaries because they wanted to make a revolution in their nation. Revolution means an extreme change in the society and social structure, a change to make a country a better place in which the fascists wanted to do in Italy, also if you wanted to be in the part of the revolution you must not leave fascism, simple as that.

    5. Describe the fascist understanding of modernity.
While reading the packet, i noticed that in the 20th century, fascism only accepted certain type of people and they tried to make fascism a new way to make the country a better by place but using different techniques which has not been used in the past.

    6. Why is fascism the most original political novelty of the 20th century
I think Fascism is the most original political novelty of the 20th century because fascism was just a movement in the 20th century at Italy, it was very unexpected by the community and it had its dramatic points where it was almost impossible to actually characterize to the people of Italy, it had its five stages of how complex is to define fascism. It was an movement in which the group tried to see changes from the people’s perspective.

    7. How does “comparison” relate to fascism? How is “comparison” a way of thinking more than a method?
I think you can match “comparison to fascism because the fascism that ran in Italy made the people in Italy think they the best out of the best. They compare their nation to other nations in Europe and so on.

    8. How is the KKK a fascist group?
The KKK is seen as a fascist group because of their high level of tradition in which they believed that the nation shall remain 100% white and this mean they had a high level of hate towards the Africans because the KKK views the Africans or the black as a threat to the society and economy.

    ReplyDelete
  11. 9. How did fascism grow among farmers?
The fascism with the farmers all started with Henry D'orgeres when he was a farmer leader and he connected his self with fascism at the beginning of 1934. Fascism made the farming industry grow after the war because leader of fascism which is Mussolini saw the great opportunities the farmer could be to recover the failing economy

    10. What leaders are considered to be fascists in this reading? Why?
In this reading, leader that i think are fascists would be Mussolini and Hitler. Mussolini because it was obvious because he was the leader of the fascism which was being runned in Italy. Hitler was also a fascist but he took the fascism to an extreme level and by extreme, i mean fascism with hate towards the Jews. These two powerful man had the same aspect for their country in which they wanted to make their land a better place to live.

    The 5 stages of Fascism

    1. Fascism is an authoritarian and nationalistic right-wing system of government and social organization. Strictly formal to advocate anyone who is with it or punish anyone who is against it. Fascism was found in Italy mostly threw the Dictator Benito Mussolini who was Hitler’s PIC (Partner in crime). Fascism was seemed as the right thing at the time, since it was to have some been openly controllable, dominant control was the right thing to do to keep anyone from interfering with their plans and or having the power to intimidate so that there wouldn’t be anyone against the government.
    2. Even if the Leader of the Nazi party Hitler and the Leader of the Fascistic party had a relationship in sending a strong message to the world that Germany and Italy were big, their ideas were slightly different. Germany’s Nazism composed of keeping most things in secret attack mode and when they tricked a region or anything in particular, there was a big commotion because the Nazi were powerful and devastating specially having such a serious and energetic leader like Hitler. They wanted to show his glory threw this form of government. Benito Mussolini using Fascism was more of an open type of government in which stories and research say that he would tell the plans to Hitler because there was a trust. Now that doesn’t make the governments better than the other, they were both terrible and very controllable but because of all this control, both of the leaders Hitler and Mussolini died tragically.
    3. Fascism wasn’t form out of the blue; it was composed threw five steps (stages) that created the movements to start mobilizing Fascism through Europe. One of the mobilizes was Benito Mussolini from Italy which believed that this movement would conquer many nations under one man’s control, his. Benito was much opened and he discussed these stages. Passing through the first stage was talking about different ways to look at the world. This would give Fascist the chance to start to develop an open-mind and developing new strategies to conquer what they thought would be theirs in Europe. The second stage would be starting to gather up their open-mindedness and knowledge of how to become a party in the political system. Once Reaching this far, the third stage would be appointing the leader and making that leader (Benito Mussolini) feel so powerful and special that the power will end up dominating his thoughts. After this the Fourth stage would be the leader showing his power and erasing anyone who opposed against his power from the face of the earth. Just like Benito’s friend Hitler deciding to exterminate deformed, homosexuals, Jews etc. Even if the leaders of fascism created commotion upon Europe, they were very organized so the fifth and last stage knows how to make plans like Mussolini; even if he told Hitler his plans, he was careful.

    ReplyDelete
  13. 4. A revolutionary person is someone who has a lived up spirit and gives strength to his/her people. These people can also be called Fascist because fascist politics and believers really demanded by force; something that can be seen as powerful and very demanding. Threw Mussolini’s promises on building the empire of Italy more made his people stand and believe on Fascism even more. Someone who lives up the crowd is someone who wins them and they follow that person which is what fascist do.
    5. Fascism was composed of some strictly (we can call amendments/rules/obligations etc.) that basecly explained and described the power in that power. Modernity was looked at something powerful to have in a government that was powerful and strict. This gave Fascism the unique touch because this would be what would alert at firsthand how powerful this type of government was. This would be upon the citizens of the nation that would bring authority and discipline.
    6. Fascism still didn’t look like danger to many people more like the right way to live. This was the most political novelty in the 20th century because this wasn’t looked at just a type of government, now it was the right way and the right path to live. It was a spontaneous culture now that lived at the moment, in an instant anything could have happened. Those who were deep thinkers were those who acted right away on a big, deep plan. Is ironic because a deep thinker is the one who sits and thinks for a long time, these people acted at once.
    7. Comparison is very much related to fascism because fascism was the form of acting at the moment so having something that changed in yo9ur environment, you must be quick to see the change and act upon it or anything bad could have happened to you if you didn’t noticed. Comparison was the extra step that Fascism need to exceed far more than a way to think.
    8. I don’t necessarily agree that the KKK was really a fascist group because Fascism can be compared to nationalism which these people carried everything to the extreme but the citizens had no power and rights because all of that power belong to the government. The KKK are citizens who still don’t care about African-Americans because they believe that that isn’t right and that’s not how things are suppose to be, for them America is a White-Only land. I can say that there is a similarity in Fascism and KKK because they were quick in stating their points but nothing further.

    ReplyDelete
  14. 9. Believe it or not, Farmers played a part in WW2. Farmers would have the capacity to know how to live a Fascist life and have the knowledge to act quickly when there was a change to the environment like the French attacking them. Most of the wars were in Country side non-urban areas which were farmer territories. Farmers were seemed as mostly peasants who just worked for the country and isolated nothing more. When it came to the attention to the Fascist group that war was in farmer’s land, they gave them economical power and farmers ended up representing politically Fascism in their land.
    10. The only Leader who I consider a Fascist is Benito Mussolini. The world today knows him because of the Fascistic party that really grew in power and caused commotion Euro-dramatically. This leader was hand-by-hand with the Nazism leader Hitler but I cannot consider Hitler a Fascistic leader because he was quick to act he was simply sneaky. In conclusion I believe that Benito Mussolini build his own path to destruction because acting so fast lead to his death and the Fascist Italian model falling.

    The Five Stages Of Fascism

    1. Describe fascism.
Fascism is like being a dictator having complete power.

    2. How are fascist Italy and Nazi Germany different?
The way that fascist Italy and Nazi Germany were different was because they both had different perspectives of things. Germany’s Nazism were very secretive about the things they did. And Fascist Italy they were very open meaning as in when Mussolini had trust in Hitler and would tell him everything.

    3. Describe the five stages of fascism.
The first stage talked about how the fascist were “phenomenon” meaning they were impressive and outstanding. The second stage talked about how they were defined by their “clothing”. The third stage talks about how there was no space because of the nations that drew “legitimacy”. The fourth stage talks about how they had a to honor the “ism” because it was a distinctive position. The fifth stage talked about how they had to pay attention to what they did .

    4. Why do fascists like to call themselves revolutionaries?
The fascists like to call themselves revolutionaries because they liked to harden the characters. But when Sternhell came around he recognized the different of the “characters” that had left fascism before time. They believed that if they wanted things to stay the same they would have to make a change.

    5. Describe the fascist understanding of modernity.
Fascist found modernity as people that put you in trouble. There is an example on page 8 that says that they “discipline intended to suppress the disorderly social consequences of industrial expansion”.

    6. Why is fascism the most original political novelty of the 20th century?
Fascism is the most original political novelty of the 20th century because the fascist were very smart they did things that just popped in the head without thinking. They were not thinkings they didn’t have to go deep into thought at all like when it came to war they have most already had something in mind of what they was going to do.

    7. How does “comparison” relate to fascism? How is “comparison” a way of thinking more than a method?
The the texted I seen that they noticed fascism as a “motion”. They really didn’t pay a lot of attention to everything they did. Comparison relates to fascism because its a way of comparing things. In the texted I found an example that states that “ comparison works revealingly with fascisms since every Western society has contained at least some marginal examples”. In my own words what that means to me is that they seen how the fascisms showed a different act when they started using comparisons. It is a way of thinking more than a method because when you compare something you do have to do something thinking but to me its not a method because a method is when you accomplish something but thats what I think

    8. How is the KKK a fascist group?
The KKK is a fascist group because they did not want the “African Americans” to vote they was scared to let them vote. What the KKK did was they did what they wanted to do they made their own rules, they didn’t want the africans to vote at all.

    9. How did fascism grow among farmers?
Fascism grew among farmers because the farmers also took part in the interwar in France. They helped with the economy as well.

    10. What leaders are considered to be fascists in this reading? Why?
The leaders that are considered to be fascists in this reading are Hitler and Mussolini. I say those two are the most considered to be fascist because they both took part in a lot throughout this reading. Hitler was a dictator he was in complete power after he got rid of the jew since they were the reason he lost in WW1 but now he is in complete power. But for Mussolini he felt like his people were better than Hitlers people.

-Fascism describes a system from the government. In which, developed in 1919 by Mussolini. Fascism, “is named by centralization of authority under a dictator [which was Mussolini at the time], typically a policy of belligerent nationalism and racism. “ Fascism denies, democracy, the absurd conventional untruth of political equality dressed out in the garb of collective irresponsibility, and the myth of “happiness” and indefinite progress” (fordam.edu). Since, Fascism means government has control such thing like happiness didn’t exist.

    3. Describe the five stages of fascism.
    - There are five stages of fascism in which characterize fascism as a whole. The first stage of Fascism is “ a problem of timing” (Packet #17). Even though, the fascism wasn’t expected it wasn’t as successful as it should’ve been which was why it failed since Mussolini didn’t really go any where after Hitler came into power. In other words, Engels, became aware of how immediately the votes for socialist in Germany and France advanced. Engels, knew for sure that “time and numbers were on his side” (Packet #17) and if things continued in that pace everything will work as they should be. The second stage of Fascism was built by mimicry, which was identified with black shirts according to Osward Mosley which represented failure of the fascist movement in Germany. The third stage of Fascism was a problem towards interpreting fascism. Fascism had he different meanings in different places. Interpreting fascism can be difficult depending on the terms that are being looked at as well as, time, depending how and where it standing. The fourth stage of Fascism is the debatable relationship among doctrine and action in fascism in which implies how the individuals establish their energy. For example, Hitler disfavored jews, and for him to be satisfied he got rid of the Jews. The final stage which is, “defining fascism is caused by overuse” (Packet #17). Basically, the word has been misused in so many ways that it has been presented towards scholarly researchers. Overall, if we use the word fascism, we shall use it well towards its definition on what the matter may be.

    The Five Stages of Fascism
    1. Describe of Fascism.
The first word that comes to my mind when I see or hear Facism is ideology. Ideology is when a leader has concepts and visions for a group. In Facism there is a leader who is aggressive and very patriotic. The reason why leaders of Facism are aggressive is because they scold and discipline a group of people whether they like it or not. Fascist leaders display their patriotism by sharing their ideas to crowds. If somebody does not follow the orders of a fascist leader they may most likely face major repercussions. That is how I'd describe Facism but the term can have several meanings or interpretations depending on the person defining it.
    2. How are fascist Italy and Nazi Germany different?
Fascist Italy and Nazi Germany were very different especially when it comes to ideology. Mussolini was the Facist Italy leader and Hitler was the Nazi Germany leader. Mussolini wasn't an antisemite like hitler was. An antisemite is a person who discriminates against or displays prejudice against Jews. Hitler's ideology involved a lot of discrimination unlike Mussolini's ideology.
    3. Describe the five stages of fascism.
The first stage of Facism is the initial creation and Facist movement which is when a new ideas come to the mind of a leader and those ideas stem from that person's new ways of viewing the world and also fixing problems that they'd encounter. The second stage of Facism is the rooting as parties in a political system. In the second stage democratic regimes are broken down and the fascists create new parties to attract a massive following. The third stage is the acquisition of power is when fascist leaders acquire more power and they need to protect their newfound powers and create trusty allies so they don't get weak. The fourth stage is the exercise of power. In the fourth stage the differences between the party and the traditional institutions and how they balance. The fifth and final stage of Facism is radicalization or entropy which states that fascists have"dual power" and that can go in two directions either radicalization or entropy.
    4. Why do fascists like to call themselves revolutionaries?
The reason why fascists like to call themselves revolutionaries is because creating a revolution for what they believe in is their goals. They become leaders for their countries and they speak on what types of changes they'd like to do to the country. They're very straightforward and aren't afraid to say what they're thinking. Since fascists are so fearless and outspoken they are able to create a following and that may create a revolution if there is a huge following for a same belief or goal.
    5. Describe the fascist understanding of modernity.
Fascists have many more opportunities in modern times. In modern times everything is newer and they another chance to create a following. Fascists are able build up their parties and have more resources of technology because of modernity.

    ReplyDelete
  19. 6. Why is fascism the most original political novelty of the 20th century?
Fascism is the most original political novelty of the 20th century because it was a new form of leadership. When people became fascist leaders they were able to create parties and groups based on what they believe in.
    7. How does “comparison” relate to fascism? How is “comparison” a way of thinking more than a method?
Comparison relates to Fascism because there are fascist groups and leaders that can be compared to each other based upon their ideas. For example the KKK and Hitler can be compared because they created fascist groups based upon their discriminative manners. Comparison is a way of thinking more than a method because the way people think is what leads them to create these groups. It's not so much a method that drives fascist leaders to create groups but their ways thinking that spark these radical ideas therefore assembling fascist groups.
    8. How is the KKK a fascist group?
The KKK can be considered a fascist group because they discriminate and are prejudice against a certain group/race. The KKK was created because they wanted to exterminate as many African Americans as possible. This can be compared to Hitler creating a fascist group to exterminate Jews.
    9. How did fascism grow among farmers?
Farmers didn't have very much of an option when it came to fascism. They didn't have a lot of wealth and many fascist groups bring fascism upon people mandatorily.
    10. What leaders are considered to be fascists in this reading? Why?
The most notable leaders considered to be fascists in this reading are Hitler and Mussolini. The reason why is because they both had visions that they wanted to make a reality for their country. Hitler was an antisemite fascist while Mussolini wasn't. Hitler and Mussolini were very strict and serious when it came to their ideology and made the adherence of their ideology by the people in their country to be mandatory and if not followed those people will suffer consequences.

    1. Describe fascism
For fascism there are a lot of examples that describe this, and some get mixed up because Fascism and Nazism are basically the same. But one that describes Fascism the most is the violence, which Hitler did most at his time. The humiliation he put Jews through and the way he treated them. In fascism you do need a powerful dictator, for this case which was not Hitler but Mussolini.

    2. How are fascist Italy and Nazi Germany different ?

Well the first differents is for Italy there powerful dictator, which was Mussolini and Germany's powerful dictator is Hitler as we all know. They both had different styles on what they did. For example Italy in there fascism would take ANYBODY into there group but only if they were useful. Germany thought otherwise and wanted to maintain a good group, wanted to keep there race as strict. Also Italy more into religion but Germany was more into getting rid of the Jews.

    3. Describe the five stages of fascism

The first one was timing, because most "fascist phenomenon" really didn't understand. Going into the 19 century political thinking thought of voting and how popular wasn't a very good role to play.
Second, was the clothing they wore to represent there self's and George Orwell said it's not about the clothing. The second stage is saying why not just be patriotic, then have exotic wear. This would "adds to confusion about what may legitimately be considered fascist".
Third which goes into another problem in the five stages but this deals with the different kinds of way nations would use fascism because everybody's religion, culture and there identify for everyone is not the same.
Fourth, is trying to see " the relationship between doctrine and actions". The fourth one is trying to put fascism in it's place.
Lastly, the fifth one is using the world "fascist", in the packet it says everybody has there own "fascist leaders. There tired of the word fascist, and how it's not properly used. This was all five, but even though they all had some sort of conflict in them.
    4. Why do fascist like to call themselves revolutionaries?

Reason why fascist called themselves revolutionaries because of the faith they had. What I mean is by the things
they went through. They thought if they always have faith they can get through it.

    5. Describe the fascist understanding of modernity
My understanding of modernity was keeping the people in a real strict hole. What I mean there were rules to keep the people stabled, not to act out. If they did, the people would probably have the worst of it, modernity tried to keep everything civil

    6. Why is fascism the most original political novelty of the 20th century ?
Its was original because of the way it was. For example the way you had to present yourself, had to be a leader or at least educated. Also had emotions and popularity kind of played a vital rule too. Like I said, you need to know what your doing or at least be engaged.

    7. How does "comparison" relate to fascism? How is " comparison" a way of thinking more than a method ?
Comparison in a way relates but better yet makes us understand the first stage in fascism, which it says "for all modern states have had protofascist militants and publicists since the 1914-18 war". With this understanding can come whenever democracy comes. But they are limits,"no authentic fascism before the emergence of a massively enfranchised and politically active citizenry. Its a way of thinking because you need sources to get your thoughts from fascism because fascism is hard it self so it's good to have theories.

  24. 8. How is the KKK a fascist group ?
The KKK was a fascist group because of the way didn't like African Americans. Which goes back to violence, which is a trait of fascism. For the KKK, there were no blacks allowed and actual spread out throughout some parts. The KKK followed there own rules, but didn't reach that point they wanted to get rid of them but didn't like them. The only problem I see with this group, when you think of it, you don't see a leader who stands out.

    9. How did fascism grow among farmers ?

It grew with farmers because the Nazism and Fascism took over the countryside, which were the farms were. Farms were for important for "social" and "economic" interest. In the summer were mostly used and was conflict, dealing with fascism, examples of working unions, complaining, strikes. Farms were being used for fascists in France, Germany and Italy. In the packet it said France how the biggest part of the farms.

    10. What leader are considered to be fascists in this reading ? Why ?

Reading this the leaders, the two big fascists leader I considered are Hitler and Mussolini because they were very feared. The way they carried there selves, and the way the nations followed outstanding. Even though both had different ways like Hitler had Nazism..while Mussolini used Fascism. Another reason because you needed a powerful dictator, which indeed they both were.

  26. Describe fascism.
While Mussolini coined the term ‘fascism’, its concepts and ideology can be traced back much further. It is an “authentic mass popular enthusiasm” as Paxton puts it (Paxton 3). This refers to the great deal of citizen involvement that fascist structures require. A reliance on some form of extreme patriotism or other fierce loyalty is intrinsic in the practice. Without this, the atrocious or beneficial results fascism can produce would not occur and it would be relatively benign like most governmental designs. The population has to believe in the actions of the powerful, not merely allow themselves to be influenced. Fascists also choose symbols on which to focus their loyalties. The Swastika, Sir Oswald Mosley’s Black Shirts exist as some examples of this focus. Fascism also exists as a field of similar political tactics and is in a different category than the schools of thought of its time such as liberalism, socialism and conservatism. Fascist instances are categorized by function and action rather than belief or thought like other structures.
    2. How are fascist Italy and Nazi Germany different?
Mussolini was very unlike Hitler as were their respective parties. While one was a strong practicing anti-Semite, the other lived, worked and slept with Jews and was more inclined to label socialists and colonized peoples as his enemies than those Jews. Hitler was also more severe in his policies. Mussolini’s policies were far more relaxed than Adolf’s, which promoted extreme order, included genocide and introduced “militarized regimentation” (Paxton 2). Hitler’s policies favored the height of technological advances but Mussolini preferred a more specific and selective use of modern technology. Finally, while Hitler’s Nazism became the most radical recorded case of fascism, the form that Mussolini practiced ended up experiencing a stat of entropy (Paxton 20).
    3. Describe the five stages of fascism.
Fascism arises in five stages. The first is its initial arousal when the beliefs seep into the current sphere and its practices gain a following. Following this, these fascist movements become intrinsic in the “political system” (Paxton 11). The most popular individuals in the movement then begin to seize power for the party and the influence spreads more directly and forcefully. The fourth step consists of the use of this gained power. This is the beginning of the actions of fascism, the defining characteristic. Finally, all fascist entities follow by turning to an extreme version of themselves or simply a somewhat stagnant continuation of relatively mild practice.
    4. Why do fascists like to call themselves revolutionaries?
Many fascist groups prefer to be referred to as revolutionaries because they intend to replace current structure that they believe to be now-defective. They wish to find places of power and overturn order in their favor, be it social, governmental or economic. Fascists move to “harden the character” and snap the population into shape when they see that it has been lagging in their eyes (Paxton 7). These goals and actions represent the general form of a revolution. The term revolution also lends an aesthetic to their movement that they are righteous and will seize control and forcefully put things to rights.
    5. Describe the fascist understanding of modernity.
Fascists generally define and understand modernity differently. Hitler promoted and appreciated new-fangled and flashy but effective and clever technologies. He would sometimes utilize them when they were not necessary for the sole purpose of being modern and technologically savvy and progressive. Mussolini, however, preferred a more minimalistic but still advanced approach to modern technologies. There are similarities, though, and all fascists can be said to have a love for technology and an appreciation of the power it can give. Fascists also take advantage of industrialization and trying to avoid the degradation it can cause to a society. While fascists are never identical, all prove to have the same practical approach to modernity.

    ReplyDelete
  27. 6. Why is fascism the most original political novelty of the 20th century?
Fascism arose as an unprecedented and extremely powerful factor in the twentieth-century. It was wholly unexpected that a fairly new and untested practice would become so influential so quickly. No one predicted the degree to which racists seized and took advantage of power in the 1900’s. Its use of intellectual tactics whilst being a militaristic and forceful movement was considered to be revolutionary in politics and society. The use of mass electorates and volunteers within the structures was also novel to the known sphere.
    7. How does “comparison” relate to fascism? How is “comparison” a way of thinking more than a method?
Since fascism is much more complicated to define and categorize than other movements, comparisons are vital to its understanding. Fascism is not a school of thought or a belief, but it can be determined by relative examples. When one example is determined to be fascism, such as Mussolini’s Italy, other examples can be compared to it. Function is the core of fascism as opposed to the schools of thought that other entities embody, and through comparisons, this difference becomes clear and one can differentiate fascist examples from, for instance, liberalism ones.
    8. How is the KKK a fascist group?
As a group created to restore “social order”, the Ku Klux Klan exists as a fascist group (Paxton 12). Evidence of their fascist functionality can be found in their replacement of a governing power. They believed themselves to be originally substituting an obsolete and tyrannical government and created their own militia to support their claims and carry out their radical fascist functions. They also employ the focus on symbol that fascist entities picture. The tall hood on the white robe act as the symbolic embodiment of their practices. They also use terrorization and are thoroughly convinced that, while they are extremely violent, these acts are all wholly righteous. The KKK could represent the birth of fascism in ten United States.
    9. How did fascism grow among farmers?
In 1930’s France, Henry Dorgères led a fascist movement of farmers in response to the strikes made by their workers during that time (Paxton 13). Like other fascist movements, Dorgères’ “Chemise Verde” acted similarly to the armed vigilante groups of Mussolini and Hitler’s. They responded by forcefully suppressing the strike and what the landowners saw as the revolt that was on their hands. This use of an armed militant force lends these farmers to the category of fascist entities.
    10. What leaders are considered to be fascists in this reading? Why?
This article lists several leaders as fascist. Among them are Mussolini, Hitler, Dorgères, and Stalin. These leaders are included under the blanket of fascism due to their actions and decisions. Mussolini gave fascism its name and, like Hitler, almost perfectly embodied its focus on symbols, militaristic action, and replacement of previous governmental structure and sequence of the five stages of fascism that Paxton defines. Dorgères is included in the list for his use of armed vigilante groups while Stalin practiced fascism on as relevant a scale as Mussolini and Hitler. Stalin had a symbol, greatly utilized the military, persecuted a great number of people in a radical form of fascism and took advantage of the power he grasped, causing a fever of support in the nation he controlled. All of these figures acted as fascist leaders.

  28. 1.Describe Fascism.
    - Well in the packet it describes Fascism a little different then what I researched up last time. When they refer to fascism, they are talking about the Italian party. I can see why they have an idea of doing that though because Italy had a strong fascist leader. But from my research on the last blog I can tell you that fascism is sort of a right wing government system or a type of social organization. But then again it was said that there was a point where fascism was poorly understood in the beginning. Hence this being the reason for there only being 5 major difficulties being in the way for people to make and effort of defining fascism.
2.How are fascist Italy and Nazi Germany different?
    - Leaders from both fascist Italy and Nazi Germany have a strong sense of fascism, yet both are found to have large differences. For example, Mussolini was known to have been surrounded by Jewish henchmen and mistress but on the other hand Hitler is known as “an obsessed anti-Semite” (Meaning hating Jews). So that’s a difference right there. There is also a difference in a way both handle their army. So there are articles going around explaining why fascist Italy should not be in the same category as Nazi Germany and how we will learn the reasons why later on in development as we proceed.
3.Describe the five stages of fascism.
    - The first stage of fascism was the process of timing. The fascist phenomenon was poorly understood due to the fact that they were unexpected. All the way until the end of the 19th century many politicians believed if you widen the votes it could benefit the democracy. But soon they found out that fascism is a “authentic mass popular enthusiasm and not merely a clever manipulation…”
The second stage of fascism comes from mimicry. Like for example, people who were not fascist, “borrowed” fascist characteristics in order to give them a tougher look or an aura of force. What I got out of the packet about this second stage is that there is not really any such thing as an authentic fascist leader or roles. Everything is either mimicked or fixed a little to improve their country or give them self a tougher look.
The third stage brings us to the problem with defining fascism in individual cases involving time or space. In space they differ because nation variants of fascism is legitimate, we can see this not just by the “universal scripture but from what it considers the most authentic element from its community.
The forth stage is more of the relationship between doctrine and action in fascism. This problem takes more time than other problems and will need more attention. The packet had a point when it said all the political movements were classified as an “ism” which in a sense can be related to a doctrine. It said that fascism is one of those “isms” because we just treat like a body of thought.
The fifth difficulty for defining fascism is the overuse. Like the example the packet used. “Everybody is someone else’s fascist.” Just like when they used the example of a female from Germany called a western birth control program “fascist” but she was forgetting Germany and Italy agreed on large families. This word was so overused people started giving up on it in scholarly research, this meaning that the word was played out due to everyone constantly using it when not needed.

  29. 4.Why do fascists like to call themselves revolutionaries?
    - Fascist would like to call themselves revolutionaries, but in the packet it states that their actions show most what they want to change. But their revolution only consist of making the character seem tougher and energizing the community, when instead they should be more focused on the social structure and trying to improve the economic system. In order for them to actually be fascist, they must remain committed. By them doing this and creating a moral revolution about fascist revolutionaries, helps them create those changes in a sense of a new fascist man.
5.Describe the fascist understanding of modernity.
    - The understanding of modernity is just as confusing as how fascist would like to call themselves revolutionaries. They try to combine technical modernity with a system of authority and discipline. What they are trying to get out of this is to suppress the social consequences of industrial expansion.
6.Why is fascism the most original political novelty of the 20th century?
    - Fascism in the 20th century had successfully grown, against many expectations, in modern nations that would have seen to excel politically and economically. It was thought of in a way that if you hated the left side, the right side was inadequate but fascist was starting to be seen more as a system. But it was not such a big of a problem to be seen individually in a national case.
7.How does “comparison” relate to fascism? How is “comparison” a way of thinking
    more than a method?
    - Malleability of fascist use was put into time and space, but this wasn’t really an obstacle to understanding something. It was said that it could even make understanding easier. Comparison is a way of thinking more than a method because we use it to see what differences are in more than one object other than trying to amass vague resemblance. Fascist and comparison sort of work “revealingly” together.
8.How is the KKK a fascist group?
    - The KKK is a fascist group because they tried to restore an overturned social order. They were an alternate civic authority, which no longer defended their community’s interest. By them having there uniform a white robe and hood and their techniques for intimidation through violence, this showed a way of fascist movement.

  30. 1) Describe Fascism.
Fascism are political ideology created by nationalist. The people who are in the fascism group they believe in racial superiority (when a race or group thinks they are better than others). There is only one leader which is the dictator of the state. The dictator is the most powerful person.
    2) How are fascist Italy and Nazi Germany different?
The commander of Italy, Mussolini, believed that Italy was the best fascism group. Mussolini followed in the direction of keeping Italy how it used to be. The commander of Germany, Hitler, was very clear on what he wanted. Which was to get rid of the Jews. Hitler also was focusing on the Aryan’s race.
    3) Describe the five stages of fascism?
The first stage: when the fascists unite and decided to find new ways to figure out the social problems. They want to think of every possible answer and pick the best one that will be most beneficial.
The second stage: this is when they fascists actually come together and become a party. This was also the stage where they made their decisions official.
The third stage: was the time when there should be a leader in power to lead the country.
The fourth stage: was how the power was going too used. For example what the leader would be in charge of and how much power does he have in activities.
The fifth stage: someone was your fascist.
    4) Why do fascists like to call themselves revolutionaries?
Fascists like to call themselves revolutionaries because they want to make an important and beneficial change in their country.
    5) Describe the fascists understanding of modernity.
The fascists understanding of modernity is that the people in their country would follow every rule they have and the society has to work together.
    6) Why is fascism the most original political novelty of the 20th century?
The fascism is the most original political novelty of the 20th century because nobody has ever seen these ideas and it was very new the people of their country. It was also original because you need 5 parts just to define fascism.
    7) How does “comparison” relate to fascism? How is “comparison” a way of thinking more than a method?
Comparison is more than a thinking method because it was a movement and when creating a movement you have to think about all the good outcomes and bad outcomes and if it will affect the people of their country.
    8) How is the KKK a fascist group?
The KKK was a fascist group because they wanted all the African Americans dead and they hated them. As for Hitler, he wanted all of the Jews dead and he heated all of them. Both Hitler and the KKK discriminated other people.
    9) How did fascism grow among farmers?
Fascism grew among farmers because the farmers grew food and during wars they can help support the soldiers and give them food.
    10) What leaders are considered to be fascists in this reading?
Hitler and Mussolini was considered to be a fascists because they both wanted the best for their country and they both tried to get the people of their country to come together.

    The Five Stages of Fascism

    1.Describe fascism.
Fascism is a type of extreme ideology that emphasizes the importance of the nation. In a way, it can be seen as extreme nationalism since many fascists wanted to make the state a superior power.

2.How are fascist Italy and Nazi Germany different?
The main difference between Nazi Germany and Fascist Italy is that Nazi Germany emphasized the importance of race, specifically the Aryan race. Nazi Italy mostly emphasized the importance of having a superior nation.

3.Describe the five stages of fascism.
The first stage of fascism is basically the formation of fascist movements. The second stage was establishing fascist parties in to the political system. The third stage of fascism is the actual act of gaining power in the nation with the fourth stage being the act of actually using this power. Finally, the fifth stage of fascism is radicalization or entropy.

4.Why do fascists like to call themselves revolutionaries?
According to packet #17, the fascists liked to call themselves revolutionaries because the purpose for their revolution was to harden the character. They also focused on purifying and energizing the community instead of making the economic system or the social structure fair for everyone.

5.Describe the fascist understanding of modernity.
While Hitler loathed the Bauhaus style, Mussolini was quite fond of aesthetic modernism. Fascists wanted to gain technical and military power while preserving the social effects on industrialization. They believed that a combined power of technological modernity and authority would eliminate unruly social consequences of industrial expansion.

6.Why is fascism the most original political novelty of the 20th century?
Fascism is considered to be the most political novelty of the 20th century because it was a novel mixture of nationalism and syndicalism. It had little to no place amongst the Left and Right wings.

7.How does “comparison” relate to fascism? How is “comparison” a way of thinking more than a method?
Comparison relates to fascism because fascism can be compared with other things like nationalism for example. Another reason why comparison and fascism go hand and hand is because fascist compared themselves to others and though that they were the superior ones. I think that comparison more of a way of thinking rather than a method because as humans, we are always comparing and contrasting things.

8.How is the KKK a fascist group?
The KKK is considered to be a fascist group because it was created due to the fact that its founders believed that the legal state “no longer defended their community’s legitimate interests” (packet 17) and had also used acts of intimidation and violence which the thought was necessary for the group’s destiny. The KKK was a good example of how fascist groups worked in interwar Europe.

9.How did fascism grow among farmers?
Fascism grew amongst farmers because it spread very rapidly throughout the countryside. It was through the countryside the both Nazism and Fascism were very successful in “becoming the representatives of important social and economic interests” (packet 17).

10.What leaders are considered to be fascists in this reading? Why?
I would say that the fascist leaders in this reading would be Hitler and Mussolini. Although Hitler was the leader of Nazi Germany, he was still somewhat fascist because he wanted to make Germany a superior nation. The only that prevents Hitler from being a true fascist is that he believed in the superiority of the Aryan whereas in Fascism, anyone who lives in the state is considered to be superior. Mussolini was fascist because he was the leader in Fascist Italy and agreed with the ideals Fascism had.

    1) Fascism is the act of manipulating masses of people into making them believe whatever you brain washed them to. It must be in a very enthusiastic way.
    2) The Italian Fascist manipulated the masses of people but he did not discriminate against them so when fascism was put upon the people he didn’t care about their ethnicity or cultural backgrounds. Now the German fascist did the opposite, he discriminated against the Jewish people because of his own personal issues.
    3) The five stages of fascism are defined in a very specific way. The first stage of fascism is that the thinkers and Publicist denounced liberal and democratic values, not because they wanted to but because the ideas were not rationalized. The current ways of thinking were not valuable. So they found a new way to think. The second stage was just rooting, so now this movement became an actual party. They isolated that movement into a political party, and gained political power because they had such a strong foundation. The third stage was just the arrival powers; the party has now gain political influences. They become allies with the police and the army The fourth stage is “Exercise of Power”, the tensions grew between the leader, the party, state officials, and traditional elites because since they gained a lot of power now other parties were being affected. Now the fifth stage is “Dual Power” it can split off into two different things, Radicalization or Entropy.
    4) They called themselves revolutionaries because they get the masses of people and brainwash them and make them believe what they want them to believe. Instead of actually dealing with the actual issue and makes the people think that everything is okay.
    5) They way I can describe fascist understanding of modernity is that they thought “combining technical modernity with a system of authority and discipline”. In other blending their authorized manipulated plans into some old ideas and calling that idea “New and Modern”, when it’s not traditional.
    6) It was the most original political novelty in the 20th century, because that’s what Rulers and Dictators were good at. It was like taking candy for a baby, it was easy for them to tell a lie and seem like everything is okay instead of actually trying to fix the problem. Many of these leaders used fascism to enforce there rules.
    7) They way comparison relate to fascism is that many leader try different thing to gain power and try to compare themselves with other leaders. Now they way it’s a way of thinking is more of a comparison than a method because when compare something you have to logically think of it before you can use it as a method.
    8) They way the KKK was a fascist group because they manipulated large masses and enthusiast’s people into doing what they wanted them to do. They took control, that’s how they were fascist.
    9) Fascism grew among farmers because In Germany, Italy and France they were agricultural strikes from the worker and they Fascist leaders helped those farmers. Since that was there time in need they helped them.
    10) The leaders that were fascist were Hitler and Mussolini, I say this because they manipulated there masses into thinking what they wanted them to believe. They filled their heads with false information.
