    1. Throughout the film you will see children (in the ghettos, camps, etc.). Analyze the role children play in the film.
    - I don’t think i really saw the role for the children in the movie, but from what i saw was that children definitely were treated differently from the way the adults and teenagers were. Regardless of how old the children were they would work but they had light tasks. I think that the Nazis also wanted to keep the children alive and from the last scene that i saw was that it looked like they were taking all of the children away from the camp to unknown location, but some children actually ran away and hid on discrete locations throughout the camp

    2. There is no doubt that Oskar Schindler portrays heroism. Describe this.
Oskar Schindler does not portray heroism in any way in the movie, from my point of view i think Schindler was one of the many Nazis that actually felt bad for the way the Jews were treated. The whole point of him not portraying heroism is by the title “Schindler’s List”. This was a list made by Oskar that he wanted to move Jews out of the camp where they were treating under harsh condition to a better place to live. The only twist is that they would still work the same way, just better food and a better place to sleep in. One good example that connects to the list was when Schindler finally gets to transfer the Jews to his hometown. The Jews were all packed inside the train like luggages, they were in the train with no space, no air for breathing and it seemed like it was extremely hot. Schindler notices that they were struggling for air, so he commands some of the officers to spray cold water inside the train for the Jews because he felt bad for them. Schindler’s from my perspective was a hero for the Jews.

    3. Compare and contrast Oskar Schindler and Amon Goeth.
Oskar Schindler and Amon Goeth are two very different Nazis with different mindsets. Schindler was someone who wanted to make change in the camp and on the other side Goeth rejected every request Schindler wanted to make. Oskar Schindler in one hand is a Nazi who feels quite bad for the Jewish people being treated the way they were treated, Schindler’s only wish was to make life in the camp just a bit of a better place and completely stop the killing of innocents. On the other hand Amon Goeth is the complete opposite of Schindler, he did not care about the Jews, he didn’t care the way they were being treated and he would kill innocents for the smallest reasons! He was completely ruthless.

    5. Describe the liquidation of the ghetto – how did this make you feel?
The liquidation of the ghetto was a very upsetting scene in the movie. It was a scene where the Jews were already placed in a bad spot to live in, they were taken away from their original homes to the ghetto. The liquidation was when the Nazis came to ghetto to evacuate every single being in the location and transferred to a camp/prison where they would work seven days a week and most likely to die, the Nazis were using the Jews as in way to make money. This made me feel very bad for the Jews, because of the way they were being treated in general, very sad moment.

  2. 6. The film is in black and white; however color does appear in the film. How does color play a role in the film?
The only part of the movie where color is being shown is when the liquidation of the ghetto is going on. During the scene, at a street, Nazis are forcing Jews out of the location while there is this one little girl walking alone in the middle of the street while all the action is going on and she was wearing a red dress, it appeared that the dress was in red color, yet the whole movie was in black and white. The little girl in red was symbolizing that no other country was putting a stop to this massive massacre. In the movie, Schindler is actually watching the little girl in red walking down the street, his whole attention was not on the people being forced out of the ghetto but the innocent little girl, eventually the little girl runs into the apartment to hide but it was obvious that she would eventually be found and die. This made Schindler realize what the Nazis were doing, they were destroying thousand of families, especially that little girl in the red. She could of had a bright future with her family. Another scene with the little girl in the red in it was when Schindler’s was taking a look at a massive killing of Jews which was throwing innocents at a massive fire, at some point of the scene prisoners were carrying dead body and it appeared that the little girl in red was in one of those piles of dead and once again the little girl in the red dress appears in color, this moment touched Schindler deep down and he broke down in tears.

    7. Examine the relationship between Oskar Schindler and Itzhak Stern.
Relationship between Schindler and Stern were like two countries allied ready for war. As stated in the movie Itzhak Stern was like Oskar Schindler’s right had at the Jewish camp. Schindler and Stern were so close that sometimes Schindler would bribe Stern some cigarettes for information or others. Stern help create the Schindler’s list also at some point of the movie. As the movie went on, relationship between them two were just getting stronger and stronger.

    8. Describe the concept of power in the film.
The concept of power in this movie or the main idea of the movie is to show how cruel life for the Jewish people were. Also to show how cruel and ruthless Nazis were! It is unfortunate that no country did not do anything to make this stop and on top of that was that countries knew what was going with the Jews. Life for the Religion itself was living hell. Its incredible what a group of radicals are able to ‘succeed’

    9. How would you interpret the following quote from Itzhak Stern: "The list is an absolute good. The list is life. All around its margins lies the gulf."
These words were said by Stern where a scene in the movie which Schindler is speaking out loud names of Jews that were living in the camp so they could be put in the list. Stern mentions the list as “life” because that list was giving the Jews actual life, the list was of people were being transferred to live at Schindler’s home town for better conditions.

Dehumanization, and Power. Write about two of these themes and how they played a major role in the film.
Two significant themes from my perspective that play throughout the movie that were the most important one are, The Power of One and Dehumanization. The Power of One is almost pretty obvious. The power that one human being has to cause this major massacre of the Jews, the one who is being responsible for this is Adolf Hitler, incredible how just one person is able to brainwash millions of Germans into make them have complete hatred towards the jews which help cause the Holocaust in many ways. Dehuminization because Jews were being tortured and killed for absolute no reason! These Jewish people were completely innocent, but they were held as prisoners and majority of them were dying, on top of that not a single country around the world were doing anything to stop this.

    1. Throughout the film you will see children(in the ghettos,camps,etc.). Analyze the role children play in the film

-In the movie this could mean sympathy to the kids because at an young age they have to go through this and not even know the meaning. The director wants us to feel their pain and how scared they were, even though realistic we can't. But through the movie you can see how the kids would try to escape but would end up getting caught, this can symbol how much the children had bravery.

    2. There is no doubt that Oskar Schindler portrays heroism. Describe this.

-Well at first you wouldn't think of Oskar Schindler as a hero because in the beginning he would use the Jews for profit for his factory, nothing more nothing less. But then you see how he doesn't feel hate towards to the Jews so in the weird way he would get more to save but in his mind was only for business. Example when the women came to talk about her parents who were at the camp, and asked him to save him. You can tell by his facial impression that he was known as a good person in which he was. He was very brave in what he did, like for giving Jews who didn't have a chance a chance even though the Nazi would see them as weak. Another way is how Oscar brought all those Jews to his company, even though it was bad for business, but seen how they were treated so felt bad, maybe he thought it was his job to save them.

    3. Compare and Contrast Oskar Schindler and Amon Goeth

-Oskar was the complete opposite of Amon. Oskar is very rich, by the suits he wear, everybody wants to be with him and doesn't hate the Jews like Amon does. Amon is extremely ruthless towards the Jews and shows no emotion expect hate. But they both have high status, so their both respected. Amon is a little jealous towards Oskar because he's not scared of Amon status and in the movie he is like the villain but only doing his job. Oskar is like a hero because he wants to build his company up but on the low help the Jews.

    5. Describe the liquidation of the ghetto-how does this make you feel ?

-The way the Nazi got rid of the Jews was to harsh to me. When the Nazis needed a place they would kick them out and put them into the ghetto. And when the Jews did go to the ghetto they tried to make a happy home because it could of been worse, but it did. The Nazi's raided there homes taking them into the camps were there is no-life and the Jews that were hiding got brutally killed. This makes me feel bad because how can you hate a race that bad to do this cruel stuff to them.

    6. The film is in black and white; however color does appear in the film. How does color play a role in the film?

-In the beginning there was color and then there was the girl in red. To me this role plays a symbol of hope only because when the Nazi's was trying to move the Jews from the ghetto, I seen that little girl in red running as if she can be safe. But then again I see it as hope loss because you seen her dead in a wheel barrel, which played a role of no more hope because even the girl in red and other Jews were getting burned, turned into ash. And when the movie first turned on there was color, I think it was a Jew song but again symbolize hope but as soon as the fire went out was all gone.

  5. 7. Examine the relationship between Oskar Schindler and Itzhak Stern.

-Even though Itzhak is a Jew is Oskar right hand man, helps him throughout the movie. To Oskar this is like his bestfriend but as an Jew. Itzhak gives him details on what's going on and the status on everybody and Oskar would give him little items, for example the lighter and some of the pastures he gave him. You ca tell even though this is his right hand man he cares for him and doesn't want anything to happen to him. He almost got caught up a couple times but Oskar saved him because maybe in his eye he doesn't see a Jew, sees a friend.

    8. Describe the concept of power in the film.

-Power was more on Oskar and the Nazi's side, because how they make decision. For example the Nazi's doing whatever they want to do by killing Jews and making them work and live in the poorest living space. And Oskar uses his power for good, example of trying to sort of help the Jews in way by putting them in his factory. Power is very strong and which it scares the Jews because they don't want to die, whatever there told to do they do because they think there going to be safe.

    9. How would you interpret the following quote from Itzhak Stern:The list is an absolute good. The list is life. All around it's margins lies the gulf.

-This was the scene when Oskar was buying all the Jews to work in the factory instead of being treated horrible in the camps. Reason why Itzhak said this because there were so many Jews, that would get the chance of new life by working with Oskar. Ever single name had a glimpse of hope one more time because to everybody Oskar factory was heaven, not getting mistreated, beat or killed. Out the kindness of Oskar heart he kept hope alive for the Jews.

    10. The following themes were significant throughout the film: Denial, The Power of One, Loyalty, Dehumanization, and Power. Write about two of these themes and how they played a major role in the film.

-Denial is a major role in this movie because of how Oskar seen how the Jews were really treated which made him have a change of heart even though he really didn't hate them. And how the Jews thought hope was in sight but really wasn't so they kept on thinking on something that was a mere dream. Another theme is power which was more on the Nazi side because they basically ruled everything that was going on in that time period and put fear into the Jews. This was major because the Jews couldn't do anything if they wanted to, and since the Nazi's had so much power would kill them off.

    Schindler's List

1.Throughout the film you will see children (in the ghettos, camps, etc.). Analyze the role children play in the film.
The children’s role in this movie is to pull at our heart strings. When we watched the scene where the children are being led away on trucks by the soldiers, we can’t help but feel sad and maybe even a little distraught because deep down we know those poor kids be are going to some place to be killed off. It makes you wonder how anyone could go to sleep at night knowing that they killed innocent children who’ve done nothing wrong.

2.There is no doubt that Oscar Schindler portrays heroism. Describe this.
If someone would have asked me this question while I was watching the first few minutes of this movie, I would have said Schindler didn't portray heroism at all. His intentions at the beginning of this movie were quite self-serving because he only wanted the Jews to work for him since his business thrived off of their labor. It wasn't until Schindler witnessed what the Jews had to go through that his intentions changed and wanted Jews to work for him so that they would no longer suffer. It is then that he portrays heroism because he’s practically playing with fire. If anyone were to discover that he was only enlisting Jews so that they wouldn't be killed, he would most likely get into serious trouble

3.Compare and contrast Oskar Schindler and Amon Goeth.
Oscar and Amon are alike and different in many ways. The reason why I would say Oscar and Amon are alike is because they both have power. Oscar is a wealthy businessman and therefore has money which is a powerful tool. Amon was a general and therefore had power in the military. The one thing that makes them different is their views on Jews. Oscar might have not really cared about them in the beginning of the movie, but that changed when he saw what the Jews had to go through. Amon however, saw Jews as sub humans and was very cruel and ruthless to them.

5.Describe the liquidation of the ghetto – how did this make you feel?
It was rather unnerving to watch how those Jews were kicked out of the ghettos in the cruelest way possible. I actually felt a little hopeful when I saw that there were survivors but all that hope was crushed when the Nazis stayed overnight just to kill anyone who escaped in cold blood. All that extra brutality was completely unnecessary and they honestly could have liquidated the ghettos spilling Jewish blood but I guess that just how the Nazis operated.

6.The film is in black and white; however color does appear in the film. How does color play a role in the film?
I think one of the reasons why this movie is in black in white was to make it more realistic. In the beginning there was quite some color but as scene changes from color to black and white, it was like sending the viewer back to a time when everything wasn't so bright and cheerful. I think the scene with the little girl in the red coat proves my point because when you see her dead body, it makes you upset that there were little children that young who were being killed off by the Nazis.

  7. 7.Examine the relationship between Oskar Schindler and Itzhak Stern.
The relationship between Oscar and Itzak was purely business at the beginning of the movie. Schindler saw Stern as his right hand accountant and nothing else. Stern never approved of Oscar’s morals and refused every time he offered him a drink. As their relationship develops, it is obvious that the two see each other saw friends.

8.Describe the concept of power in the film.
Power is everything in this movie. Without the power of his money, Oscar Schindler probably wouldn’t be able to do half the things he did. Amon wouldn’t have been able to torture the Jews like he did if it weren’t for his power in the military. The point is if you have power, you have the ability to do whatever you want and treat people however you want.

9.How would you interpret the following quote from Itzhak Stern: "The list is an absolute good. The list is life. All around its margins lies the gulf."
I would interpret this quote as Itzhak saying that the list he helped Schindler make was the ultimate good deed. By creating this list, Schindler is saving the lives of many Jews who would have otherwise been killed by the Nazis. Being on this list meant you were escaping death.

10.The following themes were significant throughout the film: Denial, The Power of One, Loyalty, Dehumanization, and Power. Write about two of these themes and how they played a major role in the film.
Dehumanization and Power who two themes that played a significant role in this film. There are countless of scenes where the Jews are being treated as if they were animals. That Nazis shoot them off one by one and they are force to have physical exams naked. It really makes the viewer feel empathy for every single Jew that is shown in this film. Power is another theme that played a significant role in this film. As I stated before, power is everything in this movie. It’s what gave Oscar and Amon the ability to do the things they did. It was also important because it showed how the Nazis used their power to humiliate and eradicate the Jews.

  8. ESSAY
    SCHINDLER’S LIST
    1. Throughout the film you will see children (in the ghettos, camps, etc.). Analyze the role children play in the film.
Children are to create empathy, disturb the viewer to a certain degree, and trigger pity, and sympathy throughout the film. It brings to mind the phrase “no child was ever meant to suffer”. If the Nazis were shown only murdering adults, then the emotional impact of the film would not be as great as it actually is. Since children are considered innocent, then the impact of seeing a child’s corpse is very intense because that child never did anything to deserve a violent death.
    2. There is no doubt that Oskar Schindler portrays heroism. Describe this.
Schindler portrays heroism by doing exactly what an ideal hero does: save the lives of people through all his capacity and do what’s right even though times may be of chaos and adversity. He did everything he could do (using his $uperpower$) to save as many Jews as he could, all while playing by the Nazi’s rules. He did “what was right” by saving innocent people from a life of misery or straight-up death.
    3. Compare and contrast Oskar Schindler and Amon Goeth.
Oskar Schindler and Amon Goeth are almost polar opposites; Oskar is a very compassionate man and a savior, whereas Amon is an insane man who likes to kill at least one random Jew (no age or gender discrimination) before brushing his teeth. Perhaps, the only thing they have in common is their German ethnicity and they both were of upper class.
    5. Describe the liquidation of the ghetto – how did this make you feel?
The Jews were forced out of their homes, and some hid in order to survive. The survivors, mostly women and children were all shot at night, when they decided to come out thinking it was all over. It was pretty disturbing, despite I come from a country where the violent death toll only in the city is about 12-18 a day.
    6. The film is in black and white; however color does appear in the film. How does color play a role in the film?
Lack of color makes the environment the Jews lived in seem more depressing. The only point in which the movie is full color is the very beginning, during a Jewish ceremony of sorts, it probably means that life was happy and “colorful” in their own homes, but outside the world was “gray” and hostile.
Color also serves for emphasis; the only color that appears within the black and white film is that of the red coat a little girl is wearing during the ghetto liquidation. The little girl catches Schindler’s attention, just simply walking to any building amidst the chaos. She is later shown hiding under a bed. Later on, Schindler is at the burning body-pile and a certain wheelbarrow catches his attention. On that wheelbarrow is a small corpse with a clearly red coat.
    7. Examine the relationship between Oskar Schindler and Itzhak Stern.
Stern was Schindler’s right-hand man. He managed his businesses and was Schindler’s eyes and ears inside the concentration camp. Stern got important information about Goeth for Schindler, he bribed camp guards and workers into doing whatever Schindler may want. Stern and Schindler were very close allies and friends.

    ReplyDelete
  9. 8. Describe the concept of power in the film.
The concept of power is perhaps the main theme of the film. The Nazis had absolute power over the defenseless Jews, they decided what to do with them, where they lived, what they could do or not, whether they lived or not. Schindler has power too, he uses his power as a rich businessman to bribe Nazis, get the favor of high-ranking officers, and ultimately save as many Jews as he could all the whilst not being too obvious to the Nazis.
    9. How would you interpret the following quote from Itzhak Stern: "The list is an absolute good. The list is life. All around its margins lies the gulf."
He refers to the list as “absolute good” because it does what is right, it saves innocent people. It is “life” because the list does exactly that, it gave those in the list salvation from death and a miserable life by being sent to Schindler’s factories (as to not make it painfully obvious to the Nazis that the Jews were being freed). I believe that by “all round its margins lies the gulf” he meant that outside the list, there was an entire “gulf” of people waiting to be saved.
    10. The following themes were significant throughout the film: Denial, The Power of One, Loyalty, Dehumanization, and Power. Write about two of these themes and how they played a major role in the film.
The most important themes of the movie were Dehumanization and Power. The Jews were no longer humans to the Germans, quoting Amon (talking to his Jewish maid): “You are a human, but not in the entire sense of the word”. He means that Jews are humans only by biological definition, but they are inferior, and good for nothing. They were taken out of their homes and put in wagons like mere cattle, cluttered and dirty. They were ridiculed in the streets by both adults and children, a prisoner said, upon hearing Schindler say he kissed a Jewish girl, “did your dick fall off?”
The Nazis had power over the Jews; they could do whatever they pleased with them. The Nazis decided where the Jews would live so as to make room for Germans. The most important power aspect they had over the Jewish people was that they controlled whether they would live or not, and if they lived how much longer. Schindler shared power too; he was a rich German with status so he could do whatever he wanted within the German society and economy. $chindler chose to use his power to save as many Jews as he possibly could.

    1. Throughout this film you will see children (in the ghettos, camps, etc.). Analyze the role children play in the film.
    - The role that the children play in the film is not as big as the role adult’s play but it is still a big and sad role. The children weren’t really shown as much in the film but from what was shown it was sad. The first parts in the film where they were shown was when they were being taken out of their houses and transferred to another location. Most of the children under the age of 14 would have to stay with their mothers but then they were also separated from their mothers and put together with all the children. The other part in the film where they were shown was when they were being put into trucks and taken away. Some of the children escaped from the line and ran to find a hiding place. There were many children hiding in places so some of them had to hide in the toilet. It was sad seeing how these children had to go through all of that in such a young age that they didn’t even understand what was going on.
    2. There is no doubt that Oscar Schindler portrays heroism. Describe this.
    - Although Oscar Schindler was seen as a bad person throughout half of the movie it is clear that he played a role in being a hero, well somewhat. For what I seen so far of the film, Oscar Schindler is like the other leaders who had the Jews working and treated them not so good. Schindler never really had a problem with the Jews. As the days passed by Schindler noticed how bad the Jews were being treated and he decided to take them to his hometown to help them and treat them better than how they were being treated. The reason I said that he plays a role in being a hero and added somewhat to it was because the train that was taking the Jews to his hometown went to Auschwitz instead of Czechoslovakia. I am wondering whether that happened on purpose or it accidentally went to Auschwitz, which is why I said he is somewhat a hero. But, once Schindler found out that the train went to Auschwitz instead, he rushed in the car and headed over there so he probably really is a hero.
    3. Compare and contrast Oscar Schindler and Amon Goeth.
    - Oscar Schindler and Amon Goeth were similar because they were both leaders and took control in everything that happened. That said, they had the power to tell anyone what to do and everyone listened to their instructions. Oscar Schindler was different from Amon Goeth because he did not treat the Jews as bad as Amon did. In fact, Schindler ended up feeling bad for the Jews and wanting to help them. Unlike Goeth, he killed the Jews every time he had a chance to and he wanted to keep them working and keep treating them the way he was treating them.
    5. Describe the liquidation of the ghetto – how did this make you feel?
    - The liquidation of the ghetto was a sad thing, which made me feel sad and bad for the Jews. The liquidation was also crazy. There were many Jews trying to hide from the Nazis so that they wouldn’t be found and transferred to another location. They were all being forced out of their houses and separation from their families. Once they got separated they could not be together again. The males had to go on one side while the females went on the other side and the children had to stay with their mothers. It was so sad to see all of those families being separated from each other.

    ReplyDelete
  11. 6. The film is in black and white; however color does appear in the film. How does color play a role in the film?
    - For what I recall, the whole film was in black and white except for two scenes, which show the role that color played in the film. The first scene was during the liquidation of the ghetto when the Jews were being forced out of their houses. There was a little girl with a red coat running around the streets alone. She was trying to hide from the Nazis, which eventually she did. The little girl ran into a bedroom and hid under a bed. The second scene where color appears is when they were getting piles of dead bodies and carrying them to where the fire was so that they can burn them. While they showed some of the bodies being carried, the little girl with the red coat appeared and she was dead. I think it’s also plays the role of showing how bad the Nazis were and they would kill anyone in order to achieve what they want.
    7. Examine the relationship between Oscar Schindler and Itzhak Stern.
    - The relationship between Oscar Schindler and Itzhak Stern was a big and real one. Itzhak Stern was Schindler’s right hand. He helped him with his business. Whatever Oscar Schindler did, Stern would support and help him. While there was being some people taken to another location, Itzhak Stern was on the list and in the train to be taken. When Schindler found out, he demanded the soldiers that it was a mistake and that they had to take Stern out of the train. When he found Stern, he made them stop the train to let him get off, which shows that he wouldn’t let anything happen to Itzhak Stern.
    8. Describe the concept of power in the film.
    - The concept of power in this film was to emphasize how important it was. Without power, the film wouldn’t have been the same. Without power, Oscar Schindler or Amon Goeth would not have been able to control everyone. Without power, this film would’ve been completely different. Therefore, power plays a big role in this film.
    9. How would you interpret the following quote from Itzhak Stern: The list is an absolute good. The list is life. All around its margins lies the gulf.
    - I would interpret this quote from Itzhak Stern has a good one. What is he is basically saying is that the list Schindler made him create was a good one. I would take the quote, “This list is life,” and say that he means that by this list, he is changing the life of many Jews. Buying the Jews was a good idea in order to help them and treat them better than the way they were being treated.
    10. The following themes were significant throughout the film: Denial, The Power of One, Loyalty, Dehumanization, and Power. Write about two of these themes and how they played a major role in the film.
    - One of the themes that played a major role in the film was dehumanization. This was a major role because the Jews were being treated as if they weren’t humans. They were being forced to work, they were being treated harshly, they were being separated from their families, and they were being killed. That is not how a human should be treated; all humans should be able to live a good life with their family. Another theme that played a major role in the film was power. Like I said in question 8, power was really important in this film. Without power, the film would’ve been different. Oscar Schindler and Amon Goeth wouldn’t have been able to make their own rules and have everyone follow them. This is why dehumanization and power play a big role in the film.

    1. Throughout the film you will see children (in the ghettos, camps, etc.). Analyze the role children play in the film.
From what I seen in the film the children were put into concentration camps and were treated as adults. The German soldiers didn’t care if they were children and even if something felt bad they couldn’t do anything because they had to follow their orders. The children were afraid of being taken away so they would hide in any spot that they could fit in, some even tried running away but most of the times were caught. I think the reason why they put the children in the film is to show how crucial Nazism was.

    2. There is no doubt that Oscar Schindler portrays heroism. Describe this.
Oscar Schindler portrays heroism by helping make the lives of the Jews better. Schindler felt bad for these Jews and he didn’t want to see them suffering when they did nothing wrong. An example of him portraying heroism is when he makes the list of Jews to send to his factory where they would have a better living condition. Schindler helped as many Jews as he could and took a risk with his company by recruiting the Jews. Even though Schindler kept them working at his factory because he had no choice, the Jews were treated much better than at the camps and weren’t killed.

    3. Compare and contrast Oskar Schindler and Amon Goeth.
The only similarity that Schindler and Goeth had was that they both had power and did what they wanted but other than that I believe that both of them had different views on the Jews. Throughout the film Schindler believed that it was wrong to be treating the Jews like animals and killing them for no reason. He wanted to change how the Nazi’s treated the Jews because he didn’t want to see the unjustified deaths. On the other hand Goeth was completely against the Jews as if he was brainwashed by the military force. Goeth enjoyed doing his job and would kill any Jew without any problem, he would shoot them right away. Even though he was doing his job he abused his powers and I feel like he killed for fun.

    5. Describe the liquidation of the ghetto – how did this make you feel?
The liquidation of the ghetto was a very terrifying moment for the Jews. The Jews would try and hide because they didn’t want to be sent away into concentration camps where they knew they would die. The Jews were taken away from their homes and families and the ones who were found hiding were killed. No human should have gone through what the Jews experienced, I don’t know how the Nazis could do something this terrible to people that have done nothing wrong.

  13. 6. The film is in black and white; however color does appear in the film. How does color play a role in the film?
I think that the reason the film is in black and white is to show that the Jews lost their hope. I say this because in the beginning of the film it shows the Jews gathered around candles and when the candles went out the film became black and white. Also the girl in the red jacket was shown in color when she was trying to hide during the liquidation of the ghetto. Schindler is at the top of a hill watching this poor girl looking to survive, when he later sees her in a body pile of dead people he recognizes the tough unfair life that the Jews are living in.

    7. Examine the relationship between Oskar Schindler and Itzhak Stern.
In the beginning of the film stern is Oskar’s source to get information about what going on in the concentration camps. Schindler would offer stern some items as a bribe to make him cooperate and give Schindler the information that he needed. Stern had become Schindler’s business partner and their relationship became strong. As the film goes on they become more than business partners close friends, and Stern helps Schindler make a list and rescue as many Jews as possible.

    8. Describe the concept of power in the film.
Power in the film is the key to success and survival. For example the Jews had no power whatsoever so they were pushed around, tortured, killed etc. Schindler on the other hand had plenty of power and did what he wanted like how made deals with the Nazi soldiers and helped the Jews. Basically without power your nothing and you’ll have a hard time living.

    9. How would you interpret the following quote from Itzhak Stern: "The list is an absolute good. The list is life. All around its margins lies the gulf."
I think that this quote means two things, when stern said “the list is an absolute good.” this meant that it was the right thing to do. Also when he said “the list is life”, I think he’s trying to say that this was a new begging for the Jews and that there hopes would come back. Being on the list is like escaping hell and going to heaven.

    10. The following themes were significant throughout the film: Denial, The Power of One, Loyalty, Dehumanization, and Power. Write about two of these themes and how they played a major role in the film.

One theme that played a major role in the film was dehumanization because of how the Nazis treated the Jews as if they were no one. The Jews were being killed like crazy for no apparent reason and nothing could have been done about. The Nazis were basically trying to get rid of all the Jews by using them and then killing them once they were useless. Another theme that played a major role in the film was power. Power is everything in this film, for example Schindler had lots of power and could do whatever he wanted and he used it by saving Jews because he felt bad for them. The Nazis had full control over the powerless Jews, and Goeth who also had power abused it by over killing the Jews. In this film in order to live a nice life you need power or you will struggle.

    Schindler’s list

    1. Throughout the film you will see children (in the ghettos, camps, etc.). Analyze the role children play in the film.
The role of the children in the film are there to make you feel empathy. In many events you will see children dying and being abused by Amon Goeth. there is one part of the movie where you will see the nazi’s gathering all the children and bring them to get killed because they are a waste of time because they are not useful to Amon Goeth and I want to say his plantation.
    2. There is no doubt that Oskar Schindler portrays heroism. Describe this
Oskar Schindler doesn't portray heroism because he felt that the Jews shouldn't have been treated that way and he wasn't the only one other Germans felt the same way. But for Oscar to help them to get away from Amon abuse he had to take them and bring them to his factory to work. But I felt that Oscar was a really good man and he was appreciated a lot by the Jews. Oskar came to visit Amon and he sees a whole train full of Jews that were extremely hot and could have used some water so he commands a officer to spray the water on them and all the other are looking at him in confusion.
    3. Compare and contrast Oskar Schindler and Amon Goeth.
Amon Goeth was really cruel to the Jews he wasn't using them in a good way because in one part of the movie he ets up in the morning and gets his gun and start shooting random Jews that were working. I felt that wasn't right because they weren't doing anything he he was just killing them. Oskar Schindler were treating the Jews in the best manner ever and they felt like it was a vacation rather then being slaves in oscar's factory. But I felt that Oskar and Amon share some treats because one part of the movie oscar looses his temper when a Jew came begging him to take her parents in. Amon Goeth was losing his temper for every little thing that they did and I felt that was a smilie treat.
    5. Describe the liquidation of the ghetto – how did this make you feel?
When I seen the liquidation of the ghetto it made me feel really bad because the Nazi's came into their homes and made them go to the concentration camps and the ones that where either hiding or refused to go got killed by the Nazi soldiers on the spot. I also seen that when the Nazi's need a place to live they would have kicked them out their homes so they could have lived in there.

  15. 6. The film is in black and white; however color does appear in the film. How does color play a role in the film?
You see color about twice during the movie at the beginning where they are signing and when they liquidated the ghettos you see a little girl running past with a red jacket. I feel like when you see the little girl walking past in the red they had hope that she would live threw the concentration camps but than to find out she was killed and Oskar seen her and he felt really bad that's when he wanted to get all the Jews from Amon's camp.
    7. Examine the relationship between Oskar Schindler and Itzhak Stern
The relationship between Oskar and Itzhak Stern was that he was working for Amon but he was reporting back to Oskar and many times in the movie you will see Oskar handing him gifts I think he is doing that to show either how he appreciates him or he gives him gifts because he might feel that he would betray him. But they have a really strong relationship because Oskar makes sure that nothing happens to him will he is under Amon's control and I feel that they became really good friends over time.
    8. Describe the concept of power in the film.
Amon took is power to far in the film for bad because at once he was nice to this Jewish boy than out of know where he didn't want to lose his power he suddenly kills him because he didn't want to become powerless I'm front of the Jews so they won't take advantage of him. But Oskar uses his powers for good he bribes many people threw out the movie and he gets many Jews into his factory so they will be safe from dieing.
    9. How would you interpret the following quote from Itzhak Stern: "The list is an absolute good. The list is life. All around its margins lies the gulf."
Itzhak Stern is saying that by Oskar making this list and having all the Jews come work with him he is giving them a new way of life from the concentration camp where they could get married and not live in fear of getting killed by the Nazi's. The people on the list where going to be sent to schindler's hometown to live and work in better conditions.
    10. The following themes were significant throughout the film: Denial, The Power of One, Loyalty, Dehumanization, and Power. Write about two of these themes and how they played a major role in the film
I choice dehumanizations as one because the way the Jews where being treated that was no way for a human of any race or nationality should have been treated this movie goes to show you how bad times where for Jews and how their was a couple of people in the world that felt that this wasn't right and stepped up and tried to get as many Jews as they can to safety away for the nazi's. The other word that I choice was power because in many aspects of the movie power is betrayed and is showed. For example Oskar shows his power by not being intimated by the group of people when he was invited to the party or dinner. But Amon takes his power to the head because he was shooting at the random Jews that were working in his camp.

#1) Throughout the film you will see children (in the ghettos, camps, etc.). Analyze the role children play in the film.
    - I think the role children play in the film is to emphasize the theme of dehumanization. It is so sad to see how they are separated from their families and basically have to try to survive at such early age. Some try to escape from such living hell and end up hiding in toilets. That is not how humans should live. That is not life. They were not living, they were just surviving. I find it so sad how the Nazis did not feel any remorse in making children work so hard and just kill them whenever they felt like it.
#2) There is no doubt that Oscar Schindler portrays heroism. Describe this.
    - I can say Oscar Schindler portrays heroism because he did try to help out many jews. The people that worked for him were not treated in a brutal way. By this I mean nobody was killed therefore, they viewed his as a hero. When the Jews were in the “train” and were thirsty, he told the guy that was spraying water to leave it longer so they could drink more. Some people seen this as a way to torture them because it was giving them hope, when in reality they were going to die but I did not see it this way. I think he was just trying to help them out. Also, towards the end of the movie he bought many Jews so they could live a better life and work for him. Sadly the train ended up in Auschwitz and we do not know if Oskar saved them or not. Regardless if he saves them or not, I think his intentions were to help them out. This is why I think he portrays heroism.
#3) Compare and contrast Oskar Schindler and Amon Goeth.
    - Oskar Schindler and Amon Goeth were both very powerful men. They were both in charge of many Jews. They were both wealthy and powerful. What makes them different is the way they treated the Jews. Amon Goeth was very brutal and aggressive. He was absolutely crazy. He was very harsh and did not care about anybody. He would kill the Jews for fun and beat them up most of the time for no reason. He did not care if they were women, children or men, he just hurted people and made their life miserable. On the other hand, Oskar Schindler was not so harsh. He did not kill the Jews and he tried to help them out. As stated on question 2, he was more like a hero and Goeth can be seen as a villain.
#5) Describe the liquidation of the ghetto – how did this make you feel?
    - I was not in class on the day this happened therefore, I do not have a lot to say. But based on my classmates, this was very sad. The Jews were taken away from their families and put in the ghetto. They would have to work every day and be treated very badly. The liquidation of the ghetto was when the Nazis killed everyone there in a very harsh way.
#6) The film is in black and white; however color does appear in the film. How does color play a role in the film?
    - Color represents hope in the film. We first see color in the movie during the celebration of Sabbath. The candles go from color to black and white. Also, the little girl wearing the red coat is in color. She tries to escape from the Nazis. I had hope they would survive and that the little girl made it. But sadly they died. This is when the role of lack of color comes in. Basically, it is to make it more depressing and sad. Therefore, black and white represents depression and sadness while color represents hope.

  17. #7) Examine the relationship between Oskar Schindler and Itzhak Stern.
    - I can say they were friends. They respected one another and treated each other nicely. Schindler would get information about Goeth’s camp through Stern. Stern would always support Schindler and was very loyal to him. Stern took care of Schindler’s business and always tried to do what was best for him. In other words, Stern was Schindler’s right hand.
#8) Describe the concept of power in the film.
    - Power was extremely important in the film. The Nazis had more power than the Jews and they took advantage of that. They would use their power to make the Jew’s lives miserable. Without power, the film would not be so important because power portrays the living hell the Jews experienced.
#9) How would you interpret the following quote from Itzhak Stern: The list is an absolute good. The list is life. All around its margins lies the gulf.
    - Basically this quote means that the list would change so many lives. The Jews would have a chance to survive such living hell and live a better life. They would no longer be afraid of being killed for no reason. They would work for someone who is good and does not take advantage of his power. The list represented hope and that was what the Jews needed. They needed hope to live a better life. I’m not saying they would live a happy life, but they would be safer and have more protection.
#10) The following themes were significant throughout the film: Denial, The Power of One, Loyalty, Dehumanization, and Power. Write about two of these themes and how they played a major role in the film.
    - The themes I choose are dehumanization and power. Dehumanization and power are seen throughout the whole movie. They depend on each other. Without power, I do not think there would be dehumanization. The Nazis used their power to treat the Jews like property. Basically, the Nazis used their power to treat the Jews like if they were not humans. Like if the Jews were less than them. I find that truly heartbreaking. An example of dehumanization is when the Jews had their ‘physical’ done. They had to get naked and run around to show that they were healthy. The Jews wanted to live so some had to cut themselves and use the blood as make-up to have some color because they were so pale. That was truly embarrassing because their bodies are privates not something to be shown to everyone. Power comes in this example because if the Jews did not look healthy the Nazis would use their power and have them killed.

  18. 1. Kids in the film all have different roles. But the kids have a main role of empathy. They want you to feel more sympathetic for the Jews. For example, when the kid kommando wanted the Jew mother and daughter to survive and get away. Or even when all the kids were hiding in the camps. The worried look on their face showed that they wanted to be alive.
    2. Of course Oscar Shindler portrays heroism. I say this because he saved the lives of many Jews by buying them to work for him at his factory. By doing this he saved hundreds of Jews from being executed, which I believe portrays heroism. Even though he was using them for free labor he soon began to take them for a greater cause (such as save their lives).
    3. Throughout the movie I couldn’t really notice any similarities between Amon Goeth and Oscar Shindler. I know they both like to drink and that both of them are not Jews. But you can tell Oscar Shindler cares for the Jews lives other than how Amon Goeth kills them for fun. That is the main difference between the two. They treat the Jews differently. Oscar Shindler I see portrays more of a layed back attitude where he has power and wealth but he doesn’t have to show it through aggression but Amon Goeth on the other hand is the exact opposite. He has power but he feels the need to show it by killing Jews. In my opinion, I see these two men (Oscar Shindler and Amon Goeth) are two very different people.
    5. The liquidation of the ghetto was crazy. They just went into people’s houses and demanded them to go outside. The Nazi’s rummaged through the Jews personal belongings and took items that would have some value which I felt wasn’t right. They killed a lot of Jews for no reason at all. It wasn’t a pretty sight, not even in Oscar Shindler’s eyes. None of the Nazi’s actions were justifiable what so ever.
    6. I feel as if they were changing from black and white to color to help signify an important event in the movie. Like when the little girl was wearing a jacket and they showed color on her, this was letting us know that Oscar Shindler was focused on her and she was going to give him a different perspective now or later in the movie. Which I believe it did later on when he seen she had died.

    ReplyDelete
  19. 7. The relationship between Oscar Shindler and Itzhak Stern is cool. Oscar looks out for him and treats him well unlike how any other German would treat a Jew. Itzhak Stern on the other hand somewhat takes care of the business Oscar Shindler runs and he had even admitted that to him. So their relationship is sort of like a “you got me and I got you” type of friendship. They do care for each other somewhat like brothers and you can notice that when they shared drinks towards the end.
    8. Power is described/portrayed in many forms of perspectives in this film believe it or not. What I mean by this is that you have the power or will to survive even when things are at their worse. You have the power that shows authority (most common in this film). But you also have power through wealth (such as Oscar Shindler’s list where he bought all the Jews and saved hundreds of lives). So all throughout this film, these many concepts of power all give it even more of an emotional touch to the whole plot. Almost as if you were even present during when the events were taking place.
    9. The way I would interpret the quote from Itzhak Stern is by him really feeling a rush of euphoria when he figured out Shindler bought all the Jews to work at his factory instead of getting killed. “The list is absolute good.” Nothing bad is coming from this list and that only good can come from it. “This list is life.” He is saying Oscar brought life to hundreds of people (Jews) when they thought this was going to be the end of them, so in fact this list did bring them life. That’s what I interpreted from that quote.
    10. The two major themes I am going to write about are “The power of one” and “Dehumanization”. The theme “power of one” I feel best fits what Oscar Shindler did of course. I think this fits him because just one guy (Oscar Shindler) saved the lkves of hundreds of Jews. Even though he had a little help from Itzhak Stern, I believe Oscar Shindler really was the main focus of saving hundreds of lives. This major theme was important in the film because it just goes to show you what wealth and the one man controlling that wealth can do. Dehumanization was the biggest of all themes in my opinion. A lot of the things the Jews had to do were degrading such as running around a circle naked as a fitness test to avoid risk of being executed. Or to even hiding in toilets just to remain alive is all degrading. The Jews were not treated like humans at all in camps (well at least for some Jews that had a certain status). It was just very dehumanizing and disgusting how they were treated and this is why in my opinion this is the major theme in the film. Mostly because it was focused around how the Jews were treated.

    Schindler's List Blog Questions:

    1. Throughout the film you will see children (in the ghettos, camps, etc.). Analyze the role children play in the film.
Throughout the film, the children did not play a big role as the adult’s did, but mostly when the film puts it on the children’s, it is just sad parts that was happening. For example, in the first parts of the film, children’s were shown hiding or being taken away out of their houses and going to another location. Mostly all the children’s that was taken away from their mothers was under the age of 14. In the film you could look at how their face expressions were when they were pulled away from their mothers that they were crying and was most of them had sad faces. The children’s sadness could make a viewer feel bad for them and fell sad too. Another part is when the children’s was being put in trucks and was taken away from their mothers to work for the Germans. Some of the children were hiding in many different places because they did not want to be taken away. There was one part that on kid hides into a toilet with other kids in it all scared. The children’s role was to show their feelings and emotions throughout the film to show the viewers how it was like of being a child during that time.

    2. There is no doubt that Oskar Schindler portrays heroism. Describe this.
Half of the movie, Oskar Schindler was seen as a bad person throughout the movie, but later on in the movie, he played a big role on saving a lot of Jews from the Germans. Oskar Schindler and other leaders had many Jews working and did not treat them fairly, but Schindler did not have any problems with Jews like the other leaders did. Later throughout the movie, he saw the way the Jews was being treated even though they was doing their jobs and saw many of them being killed to death. It made him realize he had to help many of these Jews. So he decided to take a lot of those Jews to his hometown and made them work for him, but treated the Jews well than the camps the Jews were in before. My reason of Oskar Schindler role was being a hero in the film was because he had many Jews in a train that was coming to his hometown in Czechoslovakia, but I think it accidentally went to Auschwitz where mostly many Jews get killed and Schindler got the wrong train of Jews. He knew something was wrong when he checked the name list he had that he got the wrong Jews, which he rushed to his car and went to Auschwitz to save those Jews from being killed.

    3. Compare and contrast Oskar Schindler and Amon Goeth.
There were similarities and differences between Oskar Schindler and Amon Goeth throughout the film. They both were leaders and was respected and feared by Jews and many other people. They had the power of telling anyone who worked for them to do something and the way they both were feared that everyone listened to any of their instructions. Schindler was different from Goeth because he felt bad about the Jews being killed that he wanted to save them from being abused by the Germans. But Goeth really did not care about any of the Jews, he just wanted them to work and work, if they do not work hard enough that he just killed them without hesitating. So Schindler wanted to save the Jews of being killed and Goeth was being an abusive leader.

  21. 5. Describe the liquidation of the ghetto – how did this make you feel?
The liquidation of the ghetto was really sad to see because the Jews were being separated from each other. There were many families that was hiding from the Nazis so they would not be transferred from another location that which they could work for the rest of your life or probably being killed. The families were forced out of their houses with their faces being sad and scared, that it could be the last time of seeing their families together. When the Jews got separated, the males were in one side and the mothers and children’s was in the other side. It was sad to see families being separated from each other and, all the crying and sadness that were happening in the liquidation of the ghetto.

    6. The film is in black and white; however color does appear in the film. How does color play a role in the film?
I think the reason the film had lack of color and, mostly was black and white was because maybe the film wants to show the environment of the Jews was living to be depressing with the Nazis taking control. There were different parts of the movie that showed color, I think it is because the film wants to show the importance or value of some the parts in the film. For example, during the liquidation of the ghetto, there was a little girl that had a red coat running to a building to hide from the chaos, which caught Schindler’s attention. Later throughout the film, there was a part of Schindler at a pile of dead Jewish bodies and there was a certain wheelbarrow of a dead little girl that caught his attention. It had a red color coat and the only person that had a red coat was the little girl that Schindler had his attention on in the liquidation.

    7. Examine the relationship between Oskar Schindler and Itzhak Stern.
Even thought Itzhak Stern was a Jew; Oskar Schindler’s still had him as his assistant or his right-hand man. Stern helped Schindler of managing his business, supported Schindler’s ideas, and was Schindler’s eyes and ears of knowing what was happening inside the concentration camp. I think without Stern as his assistant, Schindler would not have had a great business. Schindler cared about Stern and did not want anything to happen to him by the Nazis. Once in the film, Itzhak Stern was on the list of the Jews being taken to another location; Schindler found out and rushed to find him. He demanded the soldiers to stop the train and they eventually did, so Schindler was able to get Stern out of the train. This showed how Schindler was close to Stern that he would not let anything happen to him.

    8. Describe the concept of power in the film.
The concept of power was able to create dehumanization as main themes of the film. The Nazis had so much power over the defenseless Jews that could not do anything to stop them and had the Nazi had power of making them what to do and taking their life’s away. Also Schindler had power because he uses his power as a businessman to bribe high ranking Nazi officers for them to give him the Jews so he could save many of them from the Nazi officers.

    9. How would you interpret the following quote from Itzhak Stern: "The list is an absolute good. The list is life. All around its margins lies the gulf."
I think what Itzhak Stern was trying to say about this quote is that the list Schindler made was the right thing to do because he is now helping many innocent Jews from their miserable life’s in the camps with the Nazis. Stern said “The list is life,” he knew that the list will change many Jews from not being killed and Schindler buying them was a good idea, so Schindler could help the Jews and treat them better than the camps that the Jews was in before. Then Stern says “all round its margins lies the gulf,” he was trying to say that there was an entire “gulf” of Jews that are waiting to be saved by Schindler.

  22. 10. The following themes were significant throughout the film: Denial, The Power of One, Loyalty, Dehumanization, and Power. Write about two of these themes and how they played a major role in the film.
I think that Dehumanization and power were two themes that were significant throughout the film because without power there would not be dehumanization and without dehumanization, there would not be power. Oskar Schindler used his power of wealth to save many Jews from being killed by bribing solders or leaders to sell him the Jews. The Nazis used a lot of power on the defenseless Jews of making them do all the dirty work and control their lives. An example of dehumanization in the film was when the Jews had a physical to see if their healthy enough to work. They had to run around circles naked like animals that they probably felt humiliated. Some Jews cut themselves and use the blood as make-up for their pale skins so the soldiers or doctors would not see them weak and not get killed by the Nazis who had the power to kill them.

    1. The children play a very rambunctious and massive role in this movie. Some children were shown as being scared by running away or crying or anything in particular that would show fear against the Nazi forces. Some of them where shown to hate the Jews and to discriminated them in scenes of the movie. One small scene that has stayed in my head is the scene where the women are sent to the biggest concentration camp and one woman; after mentioning to the others that there is soup and warm comfort in Schindler’s factory, she sees that a kid does a weird gesture with his hands. The lady freaks out and stays in silence. This portrays the role of this child as giving a evil warning to this woman that simply she is going to die and this scene was actually the last one I saw before the movie was stopped in class but it’s interesting to see that this child and these children have a lot of roles in the movie so far. I believe there is still more to come.
    2. Of course there is no doubt that he shows heroism but I believe that he does it in a “fight within himself” type of way. Schindler tries to show that he’s a man of business and that he just wanted to have the Jews for him to make money; at least that was the image that was given to us in the beginning of the story. After a while we see that he starts to get a little compassioned about these Jews because of the lady requesting for her parents to leave the concentration camp and enter the factory just so that they could have freedom. The factory was a better place than the concentration camps of course so taking these people out meant that they had a chance to survive. Schindler later hits the biggest point in his heroism and orders Jews to be led into working for him in return money to the general. This showed the Jews that even if he said the all he wanted was money, he still cared for them and tried to liberate them from all this madness.
    3. Oskar Schindler and Amon Goeth Wow! So many differences I could mention. Honestly without a couple of other characters, these are my favorite. Why? Oskar and Amon both have the “interests” in making business but their hearts and passion sets them very apart. Oskar tends to want to make business out of the war but Amon just wants to kill the Jews because he wants to be seen as someone who has authority over these people. He kills, destroys, kills some more, be an atrocious man, but Oskar helps, rebuilds Jews hopes and does it in front of Amon. One thing that we see is that Oskar is simply a man who wants business trying to hide his feelings about caring for the Jews while Amon is actually someone who is a Nazi empowered man who not only follows orders from higher power, but also enjoys what he does; to kill these people which of course it is sad.

  25. 5. The Liquidation in the ghetto MAN THAT WAS CRAZY! In all honestly I wanted to cry. Ok so at first I thought hum maybe they were just going to take them all as they always do, kill a couple of people and leave, but the part that got to me was the night attack when the Jews thought that it was ok for them to get out of their hideouts There was only that one part that seemed funny because I asked myself why were they playing classical music while they were killing those who were left? It wasn’t background music; it was a soldier playing the piano while they were killing the Jews who were in the hideouts at the ghetto. This part made me upset because simply shows how cruel the Nazis were to just play the piano and act like nothing was going; to me that is just insane. It was what made me most sad, what made me think about the Nazi and how they were quick to kill but also to separate families in life and death.
    6. The film is black and white but then there is color shown. I believe that based on analyzing the movie it all came down to there was a depth in darkness in this era and I believe the director wanted to send the message out of this. The color that I think was shown was Red. Red is the color of fire and blood, so it is associated with energy, war, danger, strength, power, determination as well as passion, desire, and love. Red is a very emotionally intense color. Blood? War? Danger? Doesn’t it seem all familiar; I believe that the director showed this color so give out a clear message that the black and white was the dark days and the red meant to show all these things. I believe that color plays a minor but strong role because colors tend to give us an idea of how we are support to feel the movie when we don’t understand what’s going on; is a way of understanding and to really focus on it as well. This movie’s white and black and gray and that red coat have being circling my mind because they are simple colors to really make you pay attention which of course is what we should do when watching this incredible film.
    7. Oskar is a man who just wants business, but there is someone who he tries to be tough knowing that soon he will not hide it anymore and show that he cares for the Jews. The man that was basically his right hand man’s name was Itzhak Stern; this man was a Jew who also worked for Amon the general but he was more loyal to Oskar. They had a good relationship, since Itzhak was always there next to Oskar, Oskar did so many things for him, he has kept him away from the wrath of Amon the general and Oskar knowing that he was a Jew, I believe that he had even more care for him since he was close just like he cared about the workers getting out of those conditions and coming into the factory. I believe that Oskar was the person that had a lot in his mind and he needed someone there for him. There’s a scene that occurred in which Oskar buys concentration camp Jews to take them to the factory, Itzhak was thrilled and happy about this and showed many gratitude to Oskar because what he was doing wasn’t going to be in vain by actually helping a life.

  26. 8. The Concept of power in the film is very exquisite. I have heard and studied a little about the Holocaust before but never really sat down to watch any movie regarding this tragic event so Schindler’s list is the first movie that actually introduces me to what happened. The movie has such a strong sense and power in the film that even if it’s black and white, it shows a powerful message. As a Boy who was born into the era of technology, some may think that I wouldn’t like to see black and white films but wow! This movie is defiantly a great movie to watch. The message tends to be clear to those who pay attention and connect with every character shown who was ether Killed, tortured, etc. When connecting with each of the emotions portrayed, that is when we will see the Power in the film.
    9. "The list is an absolute good. The list is life. All around its margins lies the gulf." This quote is simply amazing. So my interpretation of this quote is that in the scene where Itzhak is typing the list of schindlers request of wanting more Jews for his factory. At this point of the movie is not about making money anymore or “business” with Amon, it’s about saving these Jews who were passing through hell and he saw that. When Itzhak says this quote I believe that he meant to tell Schindler that those people in that list were going to survive the wrath of Amon and Nazi executing them; which meant that he thanked Schindler for helping out his people (Itzhak was Jewish as well) This shows that Itzhak saw that there was good in Schindler in the Jews; after all that was going on in the concentration camps and the murderous and atrocious occurrences that happened, Schindler was moved by all of this and wanted to do something about it without giving away so much of “hey! I want to help” and more of a just wanting money/business type of image.
    10. Dehumanization & Power played a huge role in the film. The Nazi was a power that was led by no one other than Adolf Hitler. This man wanted to build “the perfect world” Jews, Homosexuals, Disabled and Gypsies were all victims of this massacre. Dehumanization was a big part of this film because we already know that these people were considered as a waste and “not worthy” of living in the face of the earth. This was something that seems to have impacted many but not many rose to do something about it since Germany was powerful when doing this. Dehumanization was controlled by the powerful ones which of course, power comes along. I think power is one of the most lead roles in this movie because it is what controls, sustains and withholds what happened to the Jews.

1.Throughout the film you will see children (in the ghettos, camps, etc.). Analyze the role children play in the film.
The children that are shown in the film were forced into ghettos and camps. They had duties as well as the adults did during this time period. Their role was to do as Schindler and Goeth said so, they were to obey them. They had the children work for them; they had no exceptions even though they were children.
    2. There is no doubt that Oscar Schindler portrays heroism. Describe this.
Oscar Schindler certainly portrayed heroism. He was a brave soul who helped as much as he can. Schindler was a very powerful man which wanted to be known and admired. He had people and children work for him so that they can survive a living. He wished for nothing but the best for his people, he condoned peacefulness and hard working.
    3. Compare and contrast Oskar Schindler and Amon Goeth.
    Similarities:
    -Both important men
-helped out the people in the camps/ghettos
    -provided them with work
    -Both very powerful and successful
    Differences:
    -Schindler was friendly
    -Goeth was more violent
-Schindler was all about helping the people out by providing work and making his own money
-Goeth was more strict if you didn’t follow his rules he would just kill you

    5. Describe the liquidation of the ghetto – how did this make you feel?
The liquidation of the ghetto was basically the beginning of the peoples suffering and depression. They were treated badly and unfair, getting forced to leave their homes and families. Men and Women were separated from each other, children were to go with the women but sometimes they would get separated as well.
    6. The film is in black and white; however color does appear in the film. How does color play a role in the film?
The color of the film plays an important role in the film, because it proves that the film is ancient and old. Since its black and white it shows that it took place way back in history because films now from the present are mainly always colored not black and white as before.

  28. 7. Examine the relationship between Oskar Schindler and Itzhak Stern.
The relationship between Oscar Schindler and Itzhak Stern was irreplaceable, they had unbreakable bond which only them two understood. They were good friends/brothers to each other. They were very loyal to one another and always had each other’s backs they were always there for one another. They never left each other behind; they had much respect towards one another.
    8. Describe the concept of power in the film.
Power was very important in the film, mostly because the film was based on power. Schindler and Goeth had power during this time they tried to do their best in helping out. They wanted to help the people but also benefit themselves from it. They would have people work for them so that they could be known and get their interest from it.
How would you interpret the following quote from Itzhak Stern: The list is an absolute good. The list is life. All around its margins lies the gulf.
I think Itzhak Stern meant that Schindler’s plan about making a list was brilliant and a good way to avoid any problems and make peace. He thought it would be a great idea to go with that plan so that conflicts could be resolved.
    10. The following themes were significant throughout the film: Denial, The Power of One, Loyalty, Dehumanization, and Power. Write about two of these themes and how they played a major role in the film.
Loyalty was very significant in the film, it showed that people had respect towards each other and were faithful enough to disobey each other. They would help one another so that no one would be left behind. Like when the people were forced to walk up naked to get check if they would healthy enough to keep working, the women would cut themselves and spread their blood on their bodies so that they wouldn’t look sick. That way they would be able to stay in the camps and work. Dehumanization was also a very big role shown in the film. People were treated badly if they didn’t obey or do their job the right way. If they weren’t capable of working they would be shot dead an in instinct without hesitation. As represented in the film when Amon Goeth would line up people and just start shooting because he didn’t like how they worked.

    1. Throughout the film you will see children (in the ghettos, camps, etc.). Analyze the role children play in the film.
I believe that the addition of children in the film is to show that not only did adults suffer during this time but also children. It just goes to show that the Nazis didn't have a care in the world as to who gets tortured and persecuted as long as they were a minority. It was very tough for me to see the children being dragged into this nightmare because they were innocent and naive. The role of children in this film can cause people to feel pity because they don't deserve all of this torture and pain. This film showcases all the terrible things that not only adults went through but also children.

    2. There is no doubt that Oskar Schindler portrays heroism. Describe this.
Oskar Schindler portrays heroism due to his salvation to the minorities. Even though Schindler originally wanted to obtain minorities for labor that was what was saving them from being killed. He would use them as employees at his factory and that would prevent them from some of the suffering they endured. At the beginning of the movie, Schindler was all about partying and a having a good time but later on he discovers all of the unpleasant things that are being done to the Jews. He creates Schindler's List which is a list comprised of the names of an enormous amount of Jews who are allowed to work for him in his factory.

    3. Compare and contrast Oskar Schindler and Amon Goeth.
Some similarities between Oskar Schindler and Amon Goeth that I noticed in the film were that they were both associated with the Nazis. Oskar was a member of the Nazi party but he wasn't evil like Amon. Oskar didn't kill Jews and hold them in concentration camps like Amon did. Another similarity is that they both aren't Jewish and are party animals. A difference is that Amon's demeanor is very scary and horrifying whereas Oskar has a more toned down and easygoing nature about him. The major difference between them are their mindsets. Amon wants to murder all the minorities while Oskar wants to come to their aid.

    4. How does the following inscription on the gold ring given to Schindler by his workers stand true: "Whoever saves one life saves the world entire."
    ----
    5. Describe the liquidation of the ghetto – how did this make you feel?
The liquidation of the ghetto was a very heartbreaking scene as well as difficult to watch. The Nazis went to drastic measures just to evacuate the ghetto. They separated families from each other and went on a killing spree. The Nazis didn't care who they were killing and carried on murdering people who have done nothing wrong. There was a part in the scene where the Nazis were approaching a hospital and the nurses gave the sick patients pills so that they would die peacefully. I believe this was a great idea because patients didn't feel pain and weren't brutally persecuted.

  30. 6. The film is in black and white; however color does appear in the film. How does color play a role in the film?
This film centers around a very depressing and unhappy time period and the use of black and white helps to show what the impact of this horrible time. I think that the film being in black and white shows the importance of this event and doesn't wander off from the topic of the Holocaust. The use off color could distract the viewer from what's really important. There is a part in the movie where there is color used which is with the red coat of a little girl. I believe this is shown so people realize that even children were murdered in the Holocaust. Giving the little girl's coat color helps people remember who she was so they can spot her coat at the cremation site.

    7. Examine the relationship between Oskar Schindler and Itzhak Stern.
The relationship between Oskar Schindler and Itzhak Stern is very friendly as well as professional. Oskar takes on Itzhak as his right hand man and assistant. It's surprising to me that their relations isn't looked down upon because Oskar is a part of the Nazi Party and Itzhak is a Jew. Oskar is very kindhearted and doesn't treat Itzhak like a minority or like he is less of a man.

    8. Describe the concept of power in the film.
The concept of power in this film is to show how much power one person can possess and how little power thousands of people can have. The minorities are striped away of their freedom and are bossed around. Amon Goeth has all the power over the minorities and uses them for negative purposes. Oskar Schindler also has power because he is able to buy minorities from Amon and although he buys them to work for him, he basically comes to their rescue.

    9. How would you interpret the following quote from Itzhak Stern: "The list is an absolute good. The list is life. All around its margins lies the gulf."
I would interpret this quote as Schindler's list bestowing hope upon the minorities involved in the Holocaust. Creating the list is helping hundreds of people who are innocent and don't deserve all this pain and suffering. The list is relieving people from torture and putting them in a better place than in concentration camps.

    10. The following themes were significant throughout the film: Denial, The Power of One, Loyalty, Dehumanization, and Power. Write about two of these themes and how they played a major role in the film.
I find dehumanization and power play major roles in this movie. People in this film are mistreated and forced to do labor because they are powerless. The minorities have to do what they're told and have no say in what they want to do or say. Amon Goeth and Oskar Schindler are two people who obtain power. Amon uses his power to dehumanize people and Oskar uses his power to help people. Throughout the film there ization that is caused by the negative use of power while the positive use of power helps to prevent dehumanization. All of the dehumanization in this film is because of Amon Goeth and the Nazis ordering the minorities around.

    Schindler's List

1.)Throughout the film you will see children (in the ghettos, camps, etc.). Analyze the role children play in the film.
The role it seems that children play in the films was the children were used as alerts to signal out the Jews that were hiding from the Nazis. The children were used as workers. But the most important role that the children play was to create sympathy. The Nazi soldiers killed off anyone they could find that is a Jew. The children are innocent and ignorant to what is happening.
2.)There is no doubt that Oskar Schindler portrays heroism. Describe this
Oskar Schindler portrays heroism in the movie, when he had his right hand Jew create a list of more than a thousand number of Jews that he could save from death. He went to Amon and basically spend half the fortune he attain from the factory business he that created and brought almost every health Jew that he could save. Another example of his heroism when he first realize what the Nazi’s were doing was wrong he went and took many Jews in to work for him to spare their lives. Another would be when Amon had the Jews loaded on the train talking them god knows were to kill them off Schindler noticed that the were very thirsty, he went and hoes all the train charts with water to help them out Schindler even tried to get Amon to sympathize with the Jews and not just kill them just to kill. It worked for a while until Amon realize the was showing sympathy and return to his originally self, a killing lunatic.
3.)Compare and contrast Oskar Schindler and Amon Goeth.
Osakar Schindler was a hero to thousands of Jews and Amon Goeth was the Jews worst nightmare.
Osakar Schindler had sympathy for the Jews and Amon just wanted them all dead he did much of the killing himself. Oskar didn't discriminated any of the Jews because they were Jews no, race didn't matter to him. The majority of the suits he wears were crafted by Jews. To some extent he enjoyed doing business with them. One the other hand Amon wouldn't dare do any business with the Jews.
Oskar wasn't afraid to show affection towards the Jews, meanwhile Amon was having internal conflicts deciding how he should display his affection towards his maid. Osakar was a rich, ambitious businessman who knew the strategies to attaining what he wanted and Amon was just a Jew psychopath.
5.)Describe the liquidation of the ghetto – how did this make you feel?
The Liquidation of the ghetto was when the Nazi soldiers came and evacuated all the Jews from the ghetto's that they were forced to move in in the beginning to place them into labor or concentration camps. When I saw that I grew very angry, because these people didn't deserve all this hostility, degradable, and harsh treatment. Exactly what did they do to deserve this? First they were kicked out of their homes and now they are kicked out of the ghetto for death and labor camps.

  32. 6.)The film is in black and white; however color does appear in the film. How does color play a role in the film?
Color plays a role in the films because in the beginning the Jews were having a traditional prayer and as the candle went out so did the color marking the beginning to the end for them. After that u see how the lives took a drastic turn for the worst. After that color was again reappeared in the movie when the little Jewish little girl in the red coat was wandering around looking for shelter, the Nazis payed her mind and then farther in the movie she reappeared in the death camp with the red coat dead in a pile of dead bodies being carried to be dump. It shows that the Nazis didn't care the would kill everyone including innocent children to rid the world of the Jews.
7.)Examine the relationship between Oskar Schindler and Itzhak Stern.
The relationship between them to is very memorable because they weren't suppose to be friends, but enemies. Stern was Oaskar right hand man. Oaskar protected Stern from the harsh treatments that the other Jews had to face by making Amon accept him as one of his workers. Amon used him as a spy to spy on Schindler, but in reality it Stern was spying on Amon for Schindler.
8.)Describe the concept of power in the film.
The concept of the film was to give the world an insight on what the Jews face during the Holocaust and what Germany was like under Hitler and the Nazi army control. The film display the cruelty and savage ways of the Nazi army. And it also showed the world that not everyone was cold hearted and agreed to treat the Jews the way that Hitler wanted them to be treated.
9.)How would you interpret the following quote from Itzhak Stern: "The list is an absolute good. The list is life. All around its margins lies the gulf."
What Stern was saying is that the list was a shelter to the Jews that got picked to escape the clutches of the Nazi army. Around it would be the Jews that were either waiting for the list or the ones that are already dead.
10.)The following themes were significant throughout the film: Denial, The Power of One, Loyalty, Dehumanization, and Power. Write about two of these themes and how they played a major role in the film.
Dehumanization:The Jews were kicked out of their homes forced into the ghettos killed on the spot for no reason whatsoever. Then being force to go to the concentration or labor camps to be worked to death, shot, gassed and burned alive. Power: During the movie the Nazis were in power Amon the man in charge of the Jews in the camps, had the power to spare or kill the Jews. He did as he pleases, he shot the Jews with no remorse and just for fun.

  33. 1) In the ghetto, the role of children would be officers. They would walk around the ghetto and blow their whistle if they see a Jew.
In the camps, the role of children isn't as good as the children in the ghetto. In the camps the children are diggers. All they do is dig and clean.

    2) Oscar Schindler portrays heroism because before Schindler entered the Jewish people's life, their lives were living hell. They were being beat and tortured. What Schindler did for the Jews was he put them to work for him but the treatment towards the workers at his work place was far more better then at others. Jews looked up to Schindler because he took them from a place where they were treated like garbage to a place where they were treated like humans.

    3) COMPARE:
Both Schindler and Goeth are one of the people in charge of the Jews. They had a big impact in Jews lives. They both liked women. Both men smoked and were drinkers.
    CONTRAST:
Schindler was far more of a nicer person than Goeth. He wouldn't dare to hurt a Jew. All Schindler wants and cares about is money. Although, they both like woman Schindler expressed it so much more. Goeth was more on the down low side while Schindler was a playboy.

  34. 5) In my opinion, the liquidation of the ghetto was the most horrible event but a very smart move from the Germans. It was a horrible event because the Jews left their hiding places thinking that they were gone but when in reality they came back at night time and cleared out the whole ghetto. Some were killed which was an extremely emotional moment. However, I feel that going back in the night time was a smart move from the Germans because if they never went back they would have let so many Jews free and they probably would of tan off.

    6) In this movie, color represents a real big meaning. Which is happiness. There was a scene in the movie, it was a party and it was in color because there was no drama at the time and everyone was laughing and enjoying their selves. When WW2 started the color changed to black and white because of the sadness and gray represents depression, which everyone felt.

    7) The relationship between Schindler and Stern was very surprising to me. I thought Jews and Germans would never have such friendly relationship like theirs. Schindler protected Stern with all his power. When the Jews were put on the train to be sent away Schindler stopped a running train and took Stern off the train. Stern was Schindler's right-hand; Schindler admitted that he couldn't do anything without him. All in all, the relationship was very powerful, a German and a Jewish person.

    8) Power in this film stands for a lot. Only the Germans were the ones in power. The Jews were the Germans little puppies. The Germans in power they were able to do basically whatever they wanted. They also drink and smoked cigars. The Jews lives deepened on the Germans in charge. If one day they felt like killing Jews they would gladly kill a Jew. If a person in charge wanted to give them a little break once in a while then the Jews wouldn't have to worry just for that one day.

    9) What Stern means by the list is an absolute good is of course Stern is going to think that the list is good because it’s all Jews and at that time the Jews was having a horrible life and now their lives are going to change. Stern believed that the Jews needed a time where they can just relax and not worry for once. Since Stern was Jewish himself he saw some happiness in the Jews lives.

    10) Dehumanization- It was a rule that mans with only one hand we sentence to be killed. This was because mans with one hand were not useful. I remember there was a scene in the movie that one of the German officers shot the old man right in front of everyone. The officer left the body on the ground and there was blood everywhere. Not once did the officer showed any sympathy.

Denial- In the movie I noticed one major detail that would distinguish someone in power from a Jew. Someone in power would have the nicest clothes and have their hair done. They look perfectly healthy. However, a Jew, they are so pale that they use their blood to put on their face to make them look a little healthy. Their hair would look horrible and they have missing teeth.

  35. 1. Throughout the film you will see children (in the ghettos, camps, etc.). Analyze the role children play in the film.
Children are a universal representation of innocence and play that role in this film as well. As the level of atrocities committed rises, the innocence and lack of understanding children provide give a relative point of comparison to show just how awful and inhumane the world was for so many people at the time. With these situations, it is often too easy to lose perspective and, when we see a world of nothing but pain, that pain becomes a norm and is somewhat numbed for the viewer. To see children who have no such prejudice and expect the best of the world makes the film more raw and heartbreaking. This is true even more so when we see children who have been corrupted into believing something wrong of the world, such as the Nazi youth. Also, when some young Jewish children finally begin to understand how death is intended for them, their fear, desperation and yet simultaneous hope creates a shattering and horrific scene.
    2. There is no doubt that Oscar Schindler portrays heroism. Describe this.
While he begins as a clever man with aspirations for wealth and an understanding that, no matter what, a human is a human, his more ‘normal’ and mundane traits make him a hero when so many others give in to corruption. He treats Jews like humans and not vermin, giving to them jobs, shelter and safety. He hires the young, old and disabled because he believes that they ought to be given a chance. Despite the extreme dangers posed, he uses his fortune to give safety to as many people as possible and puts himself at extreme risk, cleverly finding ways to exhibit kindness while seeming to the Nazi’s to be cruel or superior to Jewish people.
    3. Compare and contrast Oskar Schindler and Amon Goeth.
Both men are clever and seek power. They form an interesting relationship based upon what Goeth sees to be their common interests. Schindler, unlike Goeth is not given to madness and as susceptible to the brainwashing propaganda leveled against the Jews and other groups. Deep down however, Goeth, like Schindler, sees Jews as humans, but in a much more dangerous and slight way. He cannot see why the woman he loves is vermin and why he cannot grow old with her as he expresses to wish. Sadly he does not believe this enough and this thought is overpowered by his insanity and sadistic urges. Oskar craves power like Amon but in a much more honest way and uses his wiles to manipulate Goeth’s perception of it.
    4. How does the following inscription on the gold ring given to Schindler by his workers stand true: "Whoever saves one life saves the world entire."
    5. Describe the liquidation of the ghetto – how did this make you feel?
The scenes in which this occurred were shocking and heartbreaking to me. Even though I knew of these events and had read and seen various detailed accounts of how the Nazi holocaust played out, it was still awful and shocking to witness this representation. The camera-work showing the carnages from above where Schindler viewed in and on street-level as it was happening made me remember that even with such distance as was between Oskar and the liquidation, even though you was perfectly safe and uninvolved, you are still in danger, still responsible and this is happening to you because you are human and we all hold responsibility for each other. Seeing the massacre go on into the night, when people though they were safe truly brought the point home that this was a psychological war, not just a genocide of bodies.

    ReplyDelete
  36. 6. The film is in black and white; however color does appear in the film. How does color play a role in the film?
As the film opens, the audience views a Jewish family perform the rites of Shabbat in the light of day and while the colors are not bright or shocking, the scene is in color. As the candles used in the ceremony die out the color fades with the light and when the flame dies the film is in black and white and continues to be so. Later, during the liquidation we see Oskar’s focus follow a very young girl in a red coat wandering around unnoticed. The rest of the scene remains in black and white and only the red of the girls coat can be seen. Later, when Schindler is viewing the Jewish prisoners being forced to dig up bodies buried in trenches from a genocide and burn them, he notices the girl’s body in the red coat, again the only spot of color in the scene. This represents the destruction of innocence, life and normality and displays just how atrocious the actions of the Nazi government were.
    7. Examine the relationship between Oskar Schindler and Itzhak Stern.
Schindler and Stern form a powerful bond of respect and trust. As Stern sees that Schindler truly believes the Jewish people not to be inferior to others because of their religion or line of descent, he trusts him implicitly and relies on him to save as many as he can and whom are in immediate or extreme danger. Schindler finds a friend in Stern and tries his best to keep him safe in order to save others. When it seems that Stern will be taken to a camp and seen for the last time, their scene of farewell is heartbreaking as a departure for them and for the hope of giving refuge to so many.
    8. Describe the concept of power in the film.
Power is seen in the film through violence and manipulation. Amon Goeth and the Nazis use their power to murder, torture and demoralize Jews and attempt to annihilate a people. Nazi propaganda and tactics of terror manipulate so many into a corrupted and cruel form of themselves capable of great evil. Schindler manipulated these corrupted people to see what he wishes to do to be in their own interests so that he can do good to counteract their actions.
    9. How would you interpret the following quote from Itzhak Stern: "The list is an absolute good. The list is life. All around its margins lies the gulf."
Stern is saying that there is nothing but good in the idea and practice of the list, that the people Schindler names will only find themselves in a much better situation than if they had been omitted and carted off to Auschwitz. The list represents all of Schindler’s work and his position as a hero. Stern says that those on the list are protected and granted their own rights to live.
    10. The following themes were significant throughout the film: Denial, The Power of One, Loyalty, Dehumanization, and Power. Write about two of these themes and how they played a major role in the film.
Through manipulation, so many people become subject to a deep denial of the cruel state of the world around them, the Nazis in not seeing how terrible their impact is, the Jews in not wishing to believe what the world has in store for them and Schindler in the beginning of the film in thinking that what he is doing is not heroic nor a complete contrast to the world he walks in. Dehumanization is one of the greatest tactics used for manipulation that allows denial to grow. By refusing to believe that the Jews were truly people, the Nazis rationalized all that they did to them and made everything they did so much worse for the Jews themselves.

    Schindler’s List

    1) Many children were faced with trouble. So I don’t think that they necessarily had a role to play. For example when the German Nazi Soldiers were getting rid of some the prisoners to make more space in the camps. Majority of the children would hide so that they didn’t get cremated. The place that they would hide in would be in small corners and tight area’s etc. Some children would hide in the waste bound of the prisoners. Towards the middle of the movie when new prisoners would come and some of them were children they would get separated from their moms. It was hard to watch. In regards to playing a role in the film I think the children role was to hide and get out of anyone’s way.
    2) Oscar Shindler portrays heroism in many ways. He actually cared about the Jews, and was probably the only Nazi person who did. He helped some of the Jews that were being mistreated move out to another camp with better conditions to live in. For example when he was sending the Jews t his hometown in little train carts, it was very humid and hot. Many of them were yelling for water, so Oscar made solider spray cold water into the carts. He did that out of sympathy because he felt bad for them. So that’s how he portrayed heroism through the film.
    3) Oscar Schindler had created sympathetic feeling toward the Jews and tried to put them in better places. Oscar would kill innocent Jews or mistreat them. On the other side Ammon Goeth would! He was the complete opposite of Oscar he would kill innocent Jews for no apparent reasons. Also he didn’t not one bit about them, it was as if his heart was cold chunk of ice.
    4) The liquidation was very unfair and mid wrecking. Many of the Jews were evacuated out of their homes because whenever the Nazi needed a home they would take it from the Jews. Not only that they would place the Jews in the ghetto and some of them would be placed in a concentration camp to work. This made me feel bad for the Jews because they didn’t have any rights to anything so it wasn't fair.

  38. 5) 5) Color plays a role in the film where the Jews were being forced out of their location. There was a young girl walking in the street, but she was wearing a red dress. That dress appeared in the movie. To me I think this color red played a role as death, because many Jews died innocently. The dress for me was a sign that more deaths are most likely to come.
    6) 6) The way I can describe the relationship between Oscar Schindler and Yitzhak Stern is that they were mutual. Stern was close to Oscar, but sometimes Oscar would influence Stern to do bad things. But other than that their relationship was good.
    7) 7) The concept of power played a huge role. In fact it was the main point of the film. This was to show how the Jews were under the control of power form the Nazi Germans. The concept of power showed how Arrogant and mean the Jews were to the Jews. Power I believe took over everything; if you didn’t have any then you would be considered as nothing.
    8) I believe this quote “The List is an absolute good .The list is life. All around its margins lays the gulf" I think this is basically saying that all lives that were not killed by the concentration camps were represented by that list. Also because of how they mistreated by the Nazi soldiers. When he says “All around its margins lays the gulf” He means that many lives of the Jews were taken away and he found no fault. Maybe he meant on the other side of that gulf was destruction and there were no chances for the Jews.
    9) 9) I believe that dehumanization and power played very big roles in the film. I say this because people in this film are not treated right and forced to do labor because they have no power. The children have to do whatever they are told. Ammon Goethe and Oskar Schindler are two people who have the power. Ammon uses his power to dehumanize people and Oskar uses his power to help people. All of the dehumanization in this film is because of Amon Goeth and the Nazis ordering the minorities around. They were very cruel and mean towards the Jews.

    Schindler’s List

Throughout the film you will see children (in the ghettos, camps, etc.). Analyze the role children play in the film.
-- The children play a big and pitiful role in the film. Throughout the film, children are so innocent, they got killed for no reasons. What I remember from the film is the little girl wearing the red jacket, at first she was so smart to go back home and hide under the bed. However later she still find out by the Nazi and sent to the camps. Lastly she got killed. There is a scene where children rushed to the cars and sent away from the camps. There are some smart kids go hide when all the other kids are rushing to the car. They go hide every place they can find, and even though the toilet. Those kids just want to escape, so they will not sent away from their parents. The children are so hopeless.
There is no doubt that Oskar Schindler portrays heroism. Describe this.
-- There is no doubt that Oskar Schindler portrays heroism because first, he is a greedy businessman, and second a member of the Nazi Party. His main goal was save the Jews’ life let them work in his factory to help him make money. At first he shape from a antihero to a hero. At first he save life to help him make money but later on he get touched by the life. He saved the Jews life by sending them to his hometown to help them and the Jews get treated like human in there.
Compare and contrast Oskar Schindler and Amon Goeth.
-- Oskar Schindler and Amon Goeth is similar because they both are greedy and is a leader that like to control everything. Oskar was different from Amon by treating the Jews in a better way than Amon. He felt bad for the Jews ended up to help them. However, Amon was completely different, he killed Jews whenever he wanted and treated them like animals; anyways in his eyes that the Jews may be more worse than animals.
How does the following inscription on the gold ring given to Schindler by his workers stand true: “ Whoever saves one life saves the world entire.”
    -- Have not seen
Describe the liquidation of the ghetto -- how did this make you feel?
-- During the liquidation of the ghetto, parents trying to save their children's’ life by giving on their own life. This is crazy or I could say the soldiers are disgraceful. One hand the parents are trying to stop the soldiers , on the other hand the children are using this time to hide themselves not catch by the Nzai soldiers. But their hiding did not last long, during that night the Nazi came and listen to the ceiling to see is there anyone hiding under. They found out the kids are hiding, so they shot through the ceiling and thats the end of those hiding people’s life.

  40. The film is in black and white; however color does appear in the film. How does color play a role in the film?
-- Color play a role by making the movie more realistic and more vivid. There is some color show at the beginning and the red coat girl. At the beginning during the liquidation of the ghetto, where Jews were forced to leave their house and the little girl with red coat running back home to hide. It show how cruel the Nazi are, if you are Jews no matter you are adult or children, you still got killed.
Examine the relationship between Oskar Schindler and Itzhak Stern.
-- The relationship between Oskar Schindler and Itzhak Stern was big and is mutual advantage. Stern was Schindler’s assistant, he help Schindler on his business. But Schindler helped save the Jews and let them work at the factory. Schindler is care about Stern because when Stern get caught and get sent to somewhere on the train. As Schindler heard the news, he immediately stop the train and save Stern.
Describe the concepts of power in the film.
-- The concepts of power in the film play a big role, because the people who had power in the film can do what they want. For the Nazi, since they have the power, they can kill Jews any time they want. Oskar Schindler had the power, so he can save the Jews from the Nazi. Without power, this film will be present in a different way. Without power, there is nothing you can do to save your own life.
How would you interpret the following quote from Itzhak Stern: “The list is an absolute good. The list is life. All around its margins lies the gulf.”
-- “The list is an absolute good. The list is life. All around its margins lies the gulf.” This list helped Schindler to save the Jews’ life, if not they will get kill by the Nazi. The list help the Jews escaped an off.
The following themes were significant throughout the film: Daniel, The Power of One, Loyalty, Dehumanization, and Power. Write about two of these themes and how they played a major role in the film.
-- Dehumanization and Power play a big role in the film. Dehumanization shows everywhere in the film, Jews get treated badly by the Nazi. They treated like animals and making the Jews to take off all their clothes for the physical checkup. There is nothing the Jews can do, they wanted to surview than they better do whatever the Nazi ask them to do. Power was another big theme because you had the power, so you can do whatever you wanted. Like Oskar, he had the power so he can save the Jews life. Like Amon, he had the power, so he can kill the Jews whenever he like. In the camp, you have power, then what you say can be ended up as the rules. Everything is about power, and the importance of power is the same as money. If you have money, everything works. If you do not have money, there is nothing you can do.
