WHAT TYPE OF LEARNER ARE YOU AND WHY?
There are different types of ways to learn. Each and every person learns a specific way that others might not. That doesn’t make them any different from you because they’re still getting the knowledge just in their own way. I personally consider myself as a balanced learner. In this essay I will be explaining the type of learner I am and why I learn that certain way. I consider myself a balanced learner. One way I consider myself a balanced learner is by managing my time. To me time management is very important. I think it’s a general fact. I use my time wisely; I don’t like to waste my time. I am very good at staying on task and completing my work on time. I manage my time very carefully. Time management is an essential part of balancing. This is an important aspect of life. To me time is very precious and I know exactly how I want to spend it, whether it’s socializing or academic wise. The second reason why I consider myself a balanced learner is by strength because I know how to deal with my life. You have to know when its time to get serious and work and hard and also when its time to socialize and have fun. I think it’s very hard to juggle both school and personal life all at once for several reasons, like trying to stay focused and determined, but also having time to have a social and personal life. I understand it can be really hard to deal with both sometimes because you tend to get overwhelmed and stressed out with everything going on. I have the strength in how to deal with both. I think I am a very strong person because I can handle both and not give up. I’ve learned to deal with it, I know when to be serious and focused and work hard and when to have fun. I’ve also learned how to juggle both without having to feel as if you want to give up. I truly believe if you work hard it’ll pay off in the long run for your future. Another reason why I am a balanced learner is because of patience and a positive attitude. Patience is very important to have. Of course not everyone’s the same, but it’s a good habit to develop. Patience is the key to most things in life. Without it you’d go crazy. I am a very patient person. It’s good to develop patience it’s a peaceful feeling that keeps you calm and sane. You should also have a positive attitude at all times. Being positive can change a lot of things. Often people don’t believe that anything good with come towards them, because they’re so negative and think so negatively. Thinking positive can change a person’s mood and even their actions, if you don’t have faith in anything than you’ll become very miserable and negative. I consider myself to be very positive. I like to see the brighter side of things. You often feel more hopefully, because of your positive energy and good spirit. Everyone has different types of ways to learn because everyone’s different in their own special way. I think I am a balanced learner because I know how to manage my life school and social wise. I don’t let anything come in between my education and personal life. Those are some reasons why I am a balanced learner.

  3. The IB Learner that I strive to be is a risk-taker. In life there are some risks that I have to take every day to challenge myself and be able to succeed at it. Jobs and schools are some examples that I got to take a risk. Like having a job or playing a sports team while being in school is a risk, being in a new school with teachers that are very strict about their students success in the future, and be able to challenge myself with a positive attitude.

Risk-taking sometimes makes me risk my social life on focusing in school and be able to do things by myself. Once I had math homework that I had trouble on it and always got the problems wrong. Then I had some friends that wanted me to play basketball with them, but I wanted to get this math problem right and be able to understand it, in case if my teacher gives me a test on the same problems on the homework, so I said no and I felt bad. But Thankfully I was able to finish the homework by myself and be able to understand the problems, and pass the test that my math teacher gave me with the same problems in the homework. This was one example of risk-taking because I challenge myself on solving the math problems by myself so I could be able to understand it.

School is mostly risk-taking because there is some risk that I have to make so I could finish high school in a high note and go to a good college without any problem. When I first whet to Snowden High School it was hard for me because it was a new start at being a young adult and a lot of challenges that teachers will put me through with school work. When I met all of my teachers, they were all very strict about giving a lot of work and for me to do them. There was one ELA teacher that gave so many essays and I was really mad about it because I wasn't able do anything at home but just doing essays. I knew this was a challenge for me and with all the essays that the ELA teacher gives me, it will help on writing essays better. It was hard at first but I was able to go through it and accomplished in passing the ELA class.

Having a job is risk-taking with not knowing what to do and thinking about school work at the sometime. When I first started to work at Market Basket it was really hard because there are so much people coming to this store with so many different sales that it was madness. I was slow at first on putting products and the co-workers were mad at me for not hurrying up because we will get in trouble with the boss. So I challenge myself on putting the products faster and faster each day of work. Then my job was starting to get easier, my co-workers were happy on the improvements that I made, and my boss was impressed on the job that I was doing as a rookie.

Risk-taking helped me a lot on challenging myself with a positive attitude and not be able to give up on the challenge I put myself through. Like jobs, I am trying something new that I never done before, but I was able to learn the steps on being a good worker. School I have to risk my time on accomplishing the class work and pass my classes without any problem. At the end of the day I think to myself being a risk-taker comes something positive in return depending on the problem. That’s why I strive to be a risk-taker in school and life.

  4. The kind of I.B learner I'm in Snowden is a risk-taker. The reason why I say I'm a risk-taker because I like to take new strategies to learn new things. In this short essay I'm going to tell you how I turned my two worst classes to my two best classes.

My first class I did some risk-taking in is math class, other know as geomerty with Mr.Cassey. I'm really bad in math, so what I did is started asking questions, and asked for help when needed. This was risk-taken because I never did this, because I was embrassed. Since I steped out of my zone I started to get good in math. Without risk-taking I wouldn't have passed math last year.

My second class that I was having trouble in was history. History was a trouble class, because of everything you had to remeber. What I did stepping out of my comfort zone, by sitting near my teacher so I can ask questions when I don't understand. Ms.Noce did her best to help me and it worked. It worked so much that now I'm in I.B history.

The I.B learner profile is not only for school, but for your personal life aslo. Even though I'm a risk-taker in school, I'm also a risk-taker in life because I like to learn new stuff and the challenges it holds. If you don't learn new stuff, you will be stuck in the same place.

In this brief essay I told how I'm a risk-taker. This tool that I use for everyday life and school work, that let's me succed. Are you a risk-taker like me ?

  5. ESSAY:
IB (International Baccalaureate) is a very demanding and rewarding program. Learning is part of IB’s core, and there are different profiles for each learner. There are profiles such as: Risk Taking, Open-Minded, and Balanced to name a few. But, which one profile suits me the most? In my opinion, I have a Thinker profile. The Thinker is a learner who “Exercises initiative in applying thinking skills critically and creatively to recognize and approach complex problems, and make reasoned, ethical decisions.” According to the IB profile sheet. There are also tie-ins to other Learner Profiles within my characteristics.
Since I remember, I have had ease with critical thinking related skills. I am a quicker learner than most others. I also have particular ease with learning and practicing math and science. My fascination for math and science has led me to choose Engineering as my college career, a career that is most suited for thinkers. Furthermore, in personal experience, thinking related skills are usually the most effective for solving problems in daily life. Even in simple activities, like shopping, I always keep comparing and analyzing pros and cons of each item I am interested in, and make a final decision; this slightly ties in to the Reflective Learner profile. The Inquirer Profile is also a part of my Learner Profile, as I enjoy learning about new topics that interest me, even though those topics are not necessarily useful for my current classes.
I apply thinking skills pretty much all the time to solve different situations, for example: I evaluate and consider which route would be most appropriate to reach my destination depending on certain factors like time constraints, locations I would stop at, etc (This relates to the Reflective Thinker description). In school, being a thinker is of high necessity for you will need thinking skills in all classes for answering questions, completing tasks, and more notably in Math and Science related classes. I would infer this demand for thinking in school has partly shaped my learner profile, in order to be more successful. On a side note, I tend to be the voice of reason in my family discussions.
In conclusion, the Learner Profile that would best fit my characteristics would be The Thinker (with characteristics from other profiles amongst them too). My ability with thinking skills and analyzing factors to solve problems frames me into the aforementioned profile. In the future this profile will be very useful in my career so I can succeed in it and beyond.

  6. As an International Baccalaureate learner, I strive to be a risk-taker. I believe I’m a risk-taker learner because I’m not afraid of trying something new nor something that’s different. Even though I sometime hesitate on doing something I’ve never done before, but at the end I’m always proud of myself for trying. I consider myself very brave and articulate in what I believe in, trying something new shouldn’t be a scary experience or something you’ll regret because the more you explore, more opportunities will come along. During my sophomore year, I really didn’t think I would’ve be enrolled into IB just because of all the time and effort I would be putting into my classes. As the opportunity approached, I had to make a choice and I decided to challenge myself. Being able to become an IB student was a risk that I took because I wanted to become a better student and also being able to understand my subjects clearer. Being a risk-taker in school it’s very different from the outside world. Everyone takes risks every day and they might not even know it. A decision you may have to make between two things is a risk regardless what you chose theirs risks to that choice. I believe being a risk-taker takes a lot and that is why I feel as if I’m a good fit for being a risk-taker. I might be in an unfamiliar situation which I might approach with braveness and understand what’s going on, taking a risk might help me understand more of what’s going on. Being a student in a community which I might not know what will happen next, resolves into taking risks for whatever reason. When I’m taking risks in life and in school, I’m always open minded about the decisions I make because it may affect me in a way that might be very good or bad. Being a risk taker also brings up my confidence, when I start something new and succeed I’m very proud of myself. You’ll learn more about yourself, and will have a better understanding of the things you like in life. I’m just beginning my road towards being a risk taker and I believe being more out my comfort zone will be much of a risk instead of staying in. People shouldn’t limit themselves in life and take risks. Since we only live once , might as well make it worth living.

  7. Every student is different, which means they all have a unique way of developing their minds and learning. Some students can be Inquirers, Knowledgeable, Thinkers, Communicators, Principled, Open-minded, Caring, Risk-takers, Balanced and Reflective. But for me, the type of learner i am is an Open-minded one. This means i understand and appreciate my own culture and my personal histories, and that i am open to the perspectives, values and traditions of others individuals and communities.
I am an Open-minded learner because, when I read articles, documents, stories and etc…, I tend to ask other people or my peers, what are their perspectives on what is the reading about. Especially when I am finding the reading challenging. By doing this I am gathering information, analyzing it in my mind to have a better understand of the reading.
Being an Open-minded learner helps me through many situations, especially school related ones where I have to work on search papers for history class. I have to research information on the past using information that other people had provided. With the information that I had acquired I develop my own perspective of it in the process putting it in my own words.
Another perk about being an Open-minded learner is that I learn to adapt to different situations and people. I have many friends that are from different places and they have different traditions I learn to appreciate them for whom there are and even a take in some of their traditions. Many of my friends are fluent in other languages which is very cool because I get to learn a new tongue.
My learning style is being Open-minded, which exposes me to new things and opportunities. With this style of learning who knows that I will learn and what will I discover? It keeps me guessing and I enjoy it.

  8. IB LEARNER PROFILE ESSAY
I think that I am a principled student for many reasons. I try to do all my work on time and do my best to get things done. I listen to what the teachers say to me and I respect them by doing what they say. I also understand the consequences that I have to deal with if I fail to do something like arriving to school on time so I won’t get detention and doing my work so my grade won’t lower. Whenever I’m doing a group project I look for fairness so that everyone gets the same amount of work and no one is doing more than someone else.
I know what’s wrong and right for me, I’m always doing what’s best for me inside and outside of school in order to succeed and be a better person in life. I’m a fair person to others and help people strive for success. I don’t blame others for my mistakes or failures I blame myself and deal with the consequences making me a stronger person. As a principled person learning from my mistakes will help me become a stronger version of myself and help me become a leader not a follower.
I also think I am an inquirer because I love learning and like to find answers to my questions. In school I take all the notes I can in order to get my work done and become a better learner. I’m always trying to find answers to my questions using the resources that I have. The more I know the better my skills will be and will make me a better person independently. I like learning new things everyday because it makes me smarter. Whenever I’m doing a project I look for some research on my own so I use computers a lot to get answers to a lot of my questions.
When I do homework I do as much as I can on my own using the skills that I have and If I’m having any trouble I’ll do some research in order to get my work done on my own. I think being both an inquirer and a principled learner helps me succeed in life and get to where I want to be as a student. I like to be honest with my teachers because it is the right thing to do and lying will only make things worse. I like to help out in communities and learning from jobs or activities. As a curious person learning new things is like an accomplishment and I’ll be learning something new every day for the rest of my life.

  9. An inquirer is someone who develops their own natural curiosity and acquires the skills necessary to conduct inquiry and research. An inquirer shows independence in learning and actively enjoys learning. The love inquirers have for learning will be sustained throughout their lives. I consider myself an inquirer learner because I love to learn new things and I have my own natural curiosity.
Every day I learn something new. Whether is in school or at home, especially in Chinese and theater class. Chinese is very difficult but I’m interested and curious in learning the culture and the language because it’s so different compared to English and Spanish. Also, I’m looking forward to theater class because I like to act therefore, I cannot wait to learn a few tips to be a good actress. These examples demonstrate how I’m an inquirer learner because it shows my love for learning new things.
I also consider myself an inquirer because I’m very curious. I always do research on my own about what I learn in class. Also, whenever my teacher does not clear my doubts or answer my questions, I search them up online. That helps me understand the lesson better and do better in the class. This demonstrates my natural curiosity because instead of waiting until the next day for my teacher to help me out, I try to find the answers on my own. In addition, that shows independence in learning, which is another characteristic of being an inquirer.
I’ve been an inquirer learner since I was younger. Like I mentioned on my introduction, the love I have for learning will be sustained throughout my whole life. Being an inquirer learner has helped me through all my school years and I know it’ll help during my International Baccalaureate experience. In conclusion, I consider myself an inquirer learner because I have natural curiosity and deep love for learning.
In other words, an inquirer learner has a deep passion for learning and has their own natural curiosity. Whether an inquirer learner likes it or not, we will always need answers for any questions or doubts we may have, and if we don’t get them we do research on our own. This is because this passion for learning will be with us throughout our whole lives. In conclusion, I’m an inquirer learner because I really enjoy learning new things every day and I have my own natural curiosity.

    IB Learner Profile

The type of learner that I am is a risk-taker. A risk-taker is someone who approaches unfamiliar situations and uncertainty with courage and anticipation. They also like to explore new roles, ideas, and strategies. I am a risk-taker because I am taking IB classes, I try new things in life, and no matter what challenges I have in life, I still get back up and keep trying.
One reason I am a risk-taker is because I am taking the IB Full Diploma. IB stands for International Baccalaureate, which is an academically challenging and balanced program of education with final exams that prepares students for success at university and life beyond. This shows that I am a risk-taker because I am taking a risk to take seven IB Classes to help me get into a good college and help me succeed into my career. IB is a lot of work, which is hard, but it’s good to take a risk and do all the work in order to get help with making it far in life.
Another reason I am a risk-taker is because I try new things in life. I am taking a risk every time I try something new and I always learn and benefit from it. For example, one of my advanced classes is Chinese class. I tried to switch from IB Chinese to IB Spanish because I felt as if I wouldn’t pass Chinese. After I thought about it for a while, I realized that I should take a risk and try out IB Chinese class. This shows that I am a risk-taker because it’s a big risk to take, but it will interest colleges and it will also be a benefit for myself because I will then know three different languages.
A last reason I am a risk-taker is because no matter what challenges I have in life, I still get back up and keep trying. For example, when I get homework assignment that I think is hard, I think about giving up and not doing it. But then I think about the consequences, which are getting bad grades, and I decide that I should take a risk and try my best to get it done. No matter what, it is better to at least try doing it then going into school the next day with nothing done. This shows that I am a risk-taker because even if I do not know if I am doing it right or not, I am trying to get it done to get some type of credit for a class.
In conclusion, I am a risk-taker. In the paragraphs above I explained that I’m a risk-taker because I am taking the IB Full Diploma, I try new things in life and no matter what challenges I have in life, I still get back up and keep trying. All of these things are examples of why and how I take risks in life in order to have a good future and succeed in life.

  12. The type of IB learner I see myself as being is open-minded, balanced, and a risk-taker. I have to be open-minded to understand other people’s perspective other than my own. I say I’m balanced because I know my own physical and emotional balance is important to my learning habits. I take responsibility for my own actions, and respect everyone else’s need to learn. I’m a risk-taker cause I use different strategies I’m not familiar with in order to do the best I can on a assignment.
I remember last year in 10th grade I was open-minded during an AVID discussion. We were having a debate about a topic and we had a side who agreed and a side who disagreed. Me being on either side was seeing many different perspectives from the opposing side. So therefor being open-minded helps me learn a range of things from different point of views.
Being balanced helps me understand the importance of my own personal well-being. If I walk into class sad or very tired, I’m not emotionally ready to learn but if I walk in class happy I will be emotionally ready. Being balanced also helps me give thoughtful consideration to my work. I am able to understand my strengths and limitations when I’m working on any project either for history class or any other class. So being balanced can help my learning and my personal development.
Risk-taking is important to me as a student. Approaching unfamiliar strategies towards learning is a good key skill to have. It can help me be more independent in my work just by being a risk-taker. Exploring new learning strategies is what being a risk-taker is, and that’s what I believe I am as a student.
So the type of IB learner I see myself as being is open-minded, balanced, and a risk-taker. Me having all these learning skills is what’s going to help me do good in school and this is how I see myself as a student.

  13. I’m in the international Baccalaureate program (IB). This program is only in two schools in Boston; Quincy upper school and of course mine, Snowden International high school. Therefore being in this program will be extremely a lot of work. I am an open-minded IB learner. Being open-minded means you’re willing to consider new ideas. Not just any plain ideas like always taking the safe choice, but ideas involving big challenges for myself in the future. I am an open-minded person because of the following reasons; there is this statement I like to follow it states “Go big or go home.” my last reason why I am open-minded is because I want to get far with my education.

Now, that quote that I mentioned in the first paragraph; “Go big or go home.” I like to interoperate that as thinking outside of the box. Why I refer to that quote when I think of open-minded, you may ask. That is because “go big” means to go outside of your comfort zone and considering new ideas that you have to work extremely hard to achieve. New ideas also considering the fact that you have never done it before. In my case, have never experienced how it feels to be a part of the IB program. I had no knowledge of the loads of work I was going to receive yet, I am still looking forward into being a part of the IB program. This is how I am open-minded.

People always told me “Never take the easy way out, it will get you nowhere far in life.” As I growing up I’m starting to believe this more and more every day. For example, if I apply to be a teacher and so does another person, I have my master’s degree and the other person has a bachelor’s degree, the boss will hire me because I have a higher experience in school. I had options: being in the IB program or taking all the regular classes. I would be honored to get into Yale University. If I take the regular classes and another student take IB classes, the person that took IB classes will most likely get into Yale because they have a higher experience in school. Therefore I can’t pick these safe choices such as taking all normal classes, I have to take all IB classes because it is the work there is very extreme and I will go far in life.

Do I like my decision on being an open-minded person? Of course I do! I do because I will always strive for the hardest challenges in life. The outcome for striving for the hardest challenges is in the future I will be that person that will get will always be pick over the other person with a lower degree.

  14. Essay: IB Learner Profile
I like to classify myself as more than just one type of learner. I as an IB learner strive to be open-minded, an inquirer, and a risk-taker.
I try to apply being open-minded not only to my learning but also to my everyday life. Being open-minded means being open to new things and asking questions. From all of that you learn things you never knew before and you also get an experience out of it. I was open-minded when choosing to have IB classes because I wanted to try something new and get new experiences and see how I like them. That is a great thing about being open-minded, being open to try something different than usual.
Another type of learner I am is an inquirer. Inquirers have a curiosity about different things and want to learn more about that particular thing. Being an inquirer gives you the skills to be able to research on certain topics that you didn't know much about and gives you more knowledge. This type of learning also shows being able to work independently which is something I do a lot of. Inquirers tend to learn a lot of things in their everyday lives because of their curiosity and their asking of questions. I’m an inquirer in class by asking questions on things that I don’t understand and also wanting the teacher to elaborate on a certain topic being discussed in class.
The third an final type of learner I am is a risk-taker. I feel that I have learned how to be more open and develop my interests more by being more of a risk-taker. A risk-taker is somebody who ventures into new and unknown situations with bravery and positivity. They don't know what'll come out of that situation but will be able to by taking that risk. This will also give that person more independence to explore new ideas and learn new things.
In closing, I don't think I am just one type of learner. As an IB learner I strive to be an inquirer, open-minded, and risk-taker.

    The IB learner profile essay

As an proud IB student at Snowden Intentional High School. After deciding and looking back to see which kind of learner I am, i would say Inquirer, knowledgeable and thinker. As i was reading the "Inquirers" on the IB learner profile sheet, it perfectly described me when it said "show independence in learning" the reason why i quoted that is because i love working by myself on most of the school work were given, for some classes i like to work on group but depending on what the work is i prefer to work on it my self. I chose knowledgeable because as i looked back on my freshman and sophomore year, all the work i done i noticed how most of the time i was always looking for new ideas on how to make my work a good work and as I'm in the 2 year IB program i can see my self in the future looking for concepts and ideas to make my school work more desirable to my teachers. And last "Thinkers" the reason why i chose Thinking is because i love to think! (depending on the class) I'm always thinking when I'm supposed to get my work done, I'm always thinking, "what is the best way to explain my teacher this or that". To get through life you MUST think, opportunities will not come into your hand if you don't think. You must think what you want to be in the future, if you think about it, you think every minute to make your self move forward. On the sheet it says "approach complex problems" and since the IB program is an program that will challenge me and all the students i will think a lot for me to be able to get my work done. This will be the reasons why I'm an Inquirer, Knowledgeable and Thinker type of learner for the above reasons and I'm completely sure these skills i will help me through out my future life.

  16. IB Learner Profile Essay
As part of the Snowden team, I am proud to be part of the IB program. IB is a very challenge program, which means you need to put a lot of effort and concentration into it, in other for you to pass and move on. Which I think I am risk-takers, courage enough to jump into unfamiliar challenges, have the independence of spirit to explore new strategies, ideas…and have the braveness to articulate in defending their beliefs. No matter how hard the things are, still give yourself a try, and keep on going.
First, I am a risk-taker because I am taking an IB Full Diploma. IB is a highly regulated program and stand for International Baccalaureate, which is a mightily challenge program for students and prepares students success at colleges. All the classes I am taking now are IB; the grade that teachers give in IB is different than regular classes. This means I need to put more efforts and work into it, also mean I need to stop my laziness and start working hard for my future. Because IB really help me seek success in my future college and career. The risk I am taking now is just to train me into a stronger person.
Second, no matter how hard or difficult things are still give a try. Because if you don’t try, you never know the benefits and knowledge you will get from the difficulties. To me, taking an IB Theater class is a risk for me. Because I am a shy person and not good at express my feelings to other people. I think taking a theatre class will help me talk more and valor enough to ask people when I don’t know something. At first, I think is the environment that makes me to talk less. But later on, I realize is just not brave enough to challenge myself to change the way I am now to a new me. Now, I am in the process to challenge and change.
Finally, risk-taker is challenging myself and changes my bad habit. As what I have mention in second and third paragraphs, saying I am a lazy and shy person. Lazy is because finish all the works that’s assign but no more than that. Shy is because I not good in express my feeling and if I it works, I can stay quiet all day. These are the two bad habits that I need to change as I’m part of the IB program. This is the challenge and habits that I need to change as I am a risk-taker.
In conclusion, I am a risk-taker. Because I am challenge myself to take IB Full Diploma program, trying new things and challenge to change my bad habits. Risk-taking is just part of your life and is just the opportunities for you to earn more experience and help you in the future. As I get older, I will realize that all the risk I take before is just a piece of cake for me because all those challenges had built up a strong experience for me.

  17. Throughout my life, a quality I frequently encounter— and that is the base of my philosophy— is open-mindedness. Growing up in an American city with a European mother introduced me to this view early in life. I learned to balance the vast differences in customs and opinion between my American friends and Polish mother. I was able to learn about customs and how they worked over time, whether everyone did what they did because it was sensible and efficient or because it had simply been done for generations.
The more perspectives one comes across, the more one can see what works and what doesn’t, what is beneficial, and why it is done so. As a student of the International Baccalaureate program, this quality is vital to the mission of breaking down cultural borders and recognizing that we are and acting as citizens of the world, not just Roxbury, Chicago, Utah, Canada or Uzbekistan, but of the entire world. It would be no use if we were sent to better our planet and work with each other all over towards a better future if we refused to truly communicate and see one another and attempt to understand the cultures that shaped us. No one can change this world on their own, so, to consider all opinions and aspects is vital.
There are many kinds of differences to tackle between cultures, including those of national, economic, sex-gender and age standpoints. I am extremely lucky in being exposed to people from all economic backgrounds, from numerous countries and possessing a myriad of gender-identities and sexualities, with defining characteristics that I may have not come across had I remained in a bubble of comfortable ignorance. To truly understand why others may do things differently, I must be willing to accept their explanation and consider their reasoning or traditions. Some aspects of cultures, including my own, I attempt to avoid after concluding from long thought that they are not optimal or beneficial to my situation, while others I put in my daily mantra, adhering to their ideas to further myself. Otherwise, I may be left spitting on dishes to clean them because that’s what Grandfather did and refusing to think before I speak because he didn’t. In order to truly learn and become wise, one must learn all they can. Too much chances of learning are lost because someone refuses to hear of them because they are different.
In a similar vein, being open to correction is another trait of a broad-minded person. As Edward Hubbard said, “The final proof of greatness lies in being able to endure criticism without resentment.” That is, one must be able to recognize and accept criticism with an open-mind and use it to further and improve themselves, trying to see the situation from the critic’s point of view. Many things we do are not optimal, but we cannot see this because we do what we think it is right, it takes another pair of eyes and our own willingness to accept what they see to improve.
Without an open mind, we would not, as International Baccalaureate students, be able to make any use of our diplomas and the exhaustive attention invested in our education. Even though I do not always agree with others, I try to make a real effort to understand their point of view. If someone does something that is to me distasteful, I politely ask them why and try to really understand their logic. Sometimes I assume that logic as my own and others I leave, yet unsatisfied with their actions, but with a better understand of a fellow human and the world. As one who really tries to adhere to the policy of open-mindedness, I respect it’s placement in the International Baccalaureate Learner Profile and feel that it represents a lot of me as a student.

What kind of learner am I and why?

There are many different kinds of learners but I as a part of the IB program of the Snowden School think that I am an open minded learner. Looking at the IB learner profile, I have come to the conclusion that I am an open minded learner. There were a lot of possibilities to choose but I think the fact that I am an exchange student from Germany with mexican roots makes me mostly to the open mindet learner. Open-minded learner means that you understand and appreciate your own culture and personal history and that you are open-minded to the values and traditions of other cultures. As an open-minded learner you are also willing to grow from your experiences. I think that I am able to learn from other different cultures or any kind of exposure to foreign traditions because of my parents and friends. I like to learn new thinks about other countires and communities and I also like to talk of my experience that I had with other people or in other countries. I allready learned a bit of american people, how they live and what difference there are between Germany and the USA. I am really excited to be here and I am every time open to learn new things from the people from here.

Most of my friends come from other countries so I have allready learned much about other cultures and how the people live there. I love to hear how people from other countires speak in their languages so I'm very interessed to learn more languages for example: Italian or Russian. I think the fact that I'm allready speak german, spanish, a bit english and a bit french makes everything easier for me.
I am also very interessted to know how other people live, think about specific things or what they eat.

I think that it is important to be an open-minded learner or kind of, specally in a school like the Snowden.
In the Snowden School there are so many different cultures and kids from different countries so it is good that I am an open-minded learner so I can understand and accept them and their cultures.
I think being an open-minded learner is not just a learner profile. It is also a way of life and a different way to understand the world!

    IB learner essay

An IB learner is a special kind of learner. He or she learns in a special way whether it be being open minded, balanced, caring, and so on. As a student of Snowden who has IB classes, I believe that I am a principled and open minded IB learner.

According to the IB learner profile, a principled learner is a person who "acts with integrity and honesty, with a strong sense of fairness, justice and respect for the dignity of the individual, groups and communities. They take responsibility for their own actions and the consequences that accompany them." In school I strongly believe that you and only you are held accountable for the decisions you make. For example, if you are given a homework assignment and you choose not to do it then I believe that you should take responsibility for that decision you chose to make. If I ever decided to not do a homework assignment then I should be responsible for the outcome of my decision so if I end up getting a bad grade, I have no one to blame but myself for not doing my homework. I believe as students we should take action and responsibility for our school work and take responsibility for our actions whatever the outcome may be. Outside of school I also believe that I am a principled learner because I truly believe that everyone should be treated fairly. This is also true school wise because I believe that teachers should treat us equally as students. It’s important to me that everyone is treated justly and fair because I believe no one is superior to another.

Another type of IB learner I am is an open minded IB learner. According to the IB learner profile, an open minded Ib learner is one who “understands and appreciate their own cultures and personal histories, and are open to the perspectives, values, and traditions of other individuals and communities. They are accustomed to seeking and evaluating a range of points of view and are willing to grow from the experience.” I love learning about new cultures and the way people around me live. For example, I would find exciting to learn about a person who lived in France and learned about their way of living. I also believe that open minded learners are people who can adapt easily to any situation they are put in. It’s easier for them to adapt because they’re just so... open minded about things! When I decided to do the IB program I will admit that I was a little nervous but part of me was excited because it was an opportunity to learn new things in a new way. Even though school just started I can tell that I'm going to learning things in a new way. In Spanish class my teacher starts of the class by speaking to us completely in Spanish which was something she never did last year. It is a little difficult to follow but I think it’s a great way to learn Spanish because you're hearing it more often and you'll start remembering things since you hear so many times. I know it’s a lot of work but I'm look forward to the IB program because you're learning things in a new way.

In conclusion, I believe that I learn two types of ways. I believe that I am a principle learner because I believe that we should take responsibility for our actions and be fair and just to each other. I also believe that I am an open minded learner because I like to learn in new ways and I am open minded to the word around me.

A balanced learner is a person who understands the importance of intellectual, physical and emotional balance to achieve personal well-being for themselves and others. Reflective and gives thoughtful consideration to their own learning experience. They are able to assess and understand their strengths and limitations in order to support their own personal development and learning. I am a balanced learner because I give a thoughtful consideration to my learning. I’m able to assess and understand my strengths. Also, I understand the importance of intellectual, Physical and emotional balance.

Knowing myself, I take everything that I learn into full consideration. I always expect to learn something new every day. It’s like a dissection when I learn something; I take and cut into pieces until I finally get it. I put all my distractions behind me and stay on focus mode. I give my full attention to the teachers, so that I won’t miss any information that they teach to me. I get into a motivated mode.

When I’m able to assess and understand my strengths, it benefits me abundantly! I say this because looking at the positives in your learning experience will give you more confidence. That’s why I consider my-self as a balance learner, because not only I see the bad but I’m able to understand my strengths. When I see I’m good at something, I’m encouraged to be better. Then, learning will become much easier for me.

Understanding, the importance of intellectual, Physical, and emotional balance is pretty hard. But I’m able to do it. For Physical; I stay in shape by running track and field. I consistently run and bike ride. If I don’t it will affect my learning Emotional, I keep my emotions in check. I give myself time to understand what’s going on, so I won’t feel overwhelmed. As for Intellectual, I take my learning experiences serious. So I can be successful in life. I completely understand that. That’s why it’s important.

In conclusion, being a balanced learner means to be able to give thoughtful consideration to my learning. Also, being able to assess and understand my strengths. At lost, understanding the importance of intellectual, Physical, and emotional balance. That’s why I consider myself as a balanced learner.

Life brings us daily situations, some that are easy to handle, some that it takes a little effort to get out of and then, there are those situations that it takes a lot of thinking to solve; which is why getting the chance to have IB classes is a great opportunity. I believe I am a representative of the IB learner profile as a reflective student. This quality shows that I’m a student who thinks a lot about situations in and out of school. These situations make me reflect a lot and look for a situation which is why I look in IB. This is a great quality to have due to the fact that as we know LIFE IS NOT EASY that’s why I will be explaining why having this IB student quality is amazing to have.
In school I consider myself reflective because of course in High School; we have homework and class work and assignments in general that we need to think about to do it and of course there’s classes that are going to be extremely difficult in which we must take a chill and just reflect. I am very glad that I chose to take the IB diploma and start to analyze who am I and how am I going to get through these classes. I am reflective which is what every IB student should have because when having an assignment in your hands, we must reflect on how we are going to do it right and then to acquire knowledge to add on. Being a reflective student helps me understand these assignments and the best part is that having the opportunity of being part of the IB diploma helps me develop this quality of mine. In general school will be tough but school is just one part where I can activate this quality, there’s more; like my life outside of it.

  23. In my life outside of school I am reflective because in my house, Spanish is the predominant language but once stepped out the front door, English is what I speak. You may ask, how does that reflect that you’re reflective? Well, being bi-lingual, I have to reflect on how to correctly translate what is in English to my parents or any help they need when we are out the house. This reflection is composed of me combining my knowledge and applying it to both languages so that what I translate from one language to another is correct. Another situation outside school that I must reflect is when I help my mother with the groceries, when my dad needs help in his office calculating money or even me when I go shopping. Even if these situations seem insignificant, they make you think and that automatically makes you a reflective person. Anyone can be reflective but I believe that being an IB reflective person is that extra step of not only to reflect and act right away but to reflect find different ways to handle the situation and then act.
I’m a musician and directive musician in my church. I play various instruments but I’m mostly based on drums and pretty much reflecting while playing them period. Music is not only about taking an instrument and utilizing them, it is about knows how to feel, reflect and understand the music that’s in front of you. I think that I reflect more (after school) than anything else when it comes to music in church. Music is my passion so I want it to sound good and having a group of musicians, we have to gradually come together and make the music sound nice so as a musician, I have to reflect on what ways we can make the music sound better than any recent service, to reflect on any mistakes and how to fix them and in general just reflecting on how to play the right notes, cuts solos etc when someone or a group of people are up there singing. I make sure everything is coordinated very well and just observing lets me activate this IB characteristic finding out different ways to do this every time acquiring more knowledge about music and myself on how I handle the situation. I’ve been doing this since I was very young but reading the IB learner profile lets me actually reflect on myself and let me know that I was already developing an IB quality without even knowing which is amazing.

  24. As an IB learner and student, I know that this is one of my strongest qualities which I’m going to keep enhancing along my development from high school to college, from being a teenager to an adult, from being a church music administrator so something bigger in music. Like I said, anyone can reflect but only those who understand how important it is to reflect are deemed to be called IB students like me and you. I will keep being that Erick who is going to be guided by teachers to ultimate success, to achieve that one step students who do not want to take a challenge do not see but that each and one of us IB students can see from far away but know that in our hearts we will achieve. One man said once “Never be bullied into silence. Never allow yourself to be made a victim. Accept no one's definition of your life; define yourself” (anonymous) "Unknown." BrainyQuote. Xplore, n.d. Web. 08 Sept. 2013. Define yourself as an IB student. I am reflective in my everyday situations; I will not accept no one’s definition of my life because I already have one. I am Erick Volquez, a reflective IB student.
