Your blog
this week is to reflect on the debates conducted in class over the past few
days. Take time to consider the debate you participated in as well as the
debates you watched. Your assignment is to write TWO reflections: one on your own actual
participation in the debate and the other reflection is on the debates
conducted by your classmates - so it is a reflection as you as a member of the audience. Your reflections should be honest and
respectful. One-sentence answers are NOT acceptable. Use the seven bullet points
below as a guide to reflect on yourself and your colleagues/you as an audience member. The due date for this blog is Sunday, February 16th by 9:00 p.m.
- All statements, body language, and responses were respectful and were in appropriate language.
- All information presented in this debate was clear, accurate and thorough.
- All counter-arguments were accurate, relevant and strong.
- Every major point was well supported with several relevant facts, statistics and/or examples.
- All arguments were clearly tied to an idea and organized in a tight, logical fashion.
- The team clearly understood the topic in- depth and presented their information forcefully and convincingly.
- The Team consistently used gestures, eye contact, tone of voice and a level of enthusiasm in a way that kept the attention of the audience.

-Reflection on my debate with Dimas.
With the topic Dimas and I had to debate which was “Should the Nazis be solely to blame for World War II?” i was very confident of being for it. I was very nervous before the debate and i kept thinking i wouldn't have any idea on what to say but i ended up not even looking at my flashcards while debating and I just spoke what came on to my mind from my knowledge. Dimas made the debate extremely funny and very hard for me to focus on the debate and to even gather my thoughts, I'm sure that was one of his strategy! At some points throughout the debate, Dimas made get confused a couple of times on what he kept saying, i wasn’t sure if kept repeating himself, on top of that he made the debate very outstanding, catching everyone's attention which i really liked it. One thing i noticed that, one of Dimas’s point wasn't 100% true, i kept trying to tell him but he kept denying, which is obviously the right thing to do. Also he kind of stayed at one single topic which made me not share out all of the points i had from the list, but he he did do a great job defending his argument using examples like the League of nations and talking about how unfair the Treaty of Versailles were towards Germany which was a little hard for me to have a counter argument on those points. At the end, it was a very fun debate that I really enjoyed and that i wouldn't mind debating with him again!
-Reflection on my classmates debates
With the variety of topics my classmates had to debate on, most of the topics interested me in some way, it was fun to watch these debates. I actually learned a couple of things from these debates like the Auschwitz camp, the real cause for the Holocaust, use of Propaganda in wartime and many other things. I had two favorite debates out of them all, the first one was Jack against Erick. I forgot the topic they were debating on but from my point of view, they seemed extremely professional and having some passion with their arguments. The main reason why this debate was my favorite was because these two classmates knew what they’re talking, they investigated their topic very deeply to support their arguments, they used strong academic words which made it sound professional, with this debate it was very much of a loud and aggressive debate, they each took turns on speaking and they seemed very calm with each other and at the end they both were so good with arguing back and forth that it came to be a draw. My other favorite debate was Dinia against Junior, again not knowing what the topic was, the debate was very fun to watch and very outstanding with Diana's aggressiveness. Junior used common sense knowledge towards Dinia in which he always asked if the ‘letter’ was ever true and saying how we don't know if that really happened. Dinia was very aggressive towards junior, cutting him off while Junior spoke, making hand gestures and making eye contact from the beginning till the end of the debate. At the end I think Dinia won the debate but either way i give props to Junior! In conclusion, debating with your classmates was actually a fun thing to do, researching and rehearsal, something to get our minds off just writing and discussing in class.

Debate reflection
Reflection on my debate
I had debated with victor and our question was should Canada have declared war on Germany in ww2. Being a pro in this debate was kind of hard because even though I had to support the question I really didn’t agree with it. This debate was challenging for me but overall we did a good job with our debate. I think we both had some really good points but I feel like I could have added some more good facts and used better eye contact. What also made it even harder for me was that I didn’t know anything about Canada at war, so the debate gave me the opportunity to learn new things. The debate had been a very interesting but also a very challenging experience that I participating in.
Reflection on my Classmates debates
As a member of the audience I had a really good time hearing what my classmates had to say on each other’s debates. Some of the debates were really good and some were fun to watch, for example the debate with William and Dimas was very engaging. They both looked like they knew what they were doing and dimas was very aggressive and ongoing with his statements, making it a fun debate to watch. Another debate that I think was great was the one with Jack and Erick, when they went up it felt like a professional debate they were going back and forth stating some really good facts. They both had lots to say, I would say that if there was no time limit that it would have been a really nice long debate. I learned plenty of new things about ww2 that I didn’t know and hearing people’s perspectives and comments on the topics they had was interesting. Some of the debates were short and hard to hear but since it being out first class debate I think everyone did a really nice job.
My Debate Reflection:
ReplyDelete- I felt as if the debate went very well. In order to have a pretty decent debate you got to know your stuff on both sides (pro and con). By knowing both sides to the debate, you are only strengthening your argument because you would know how to react to when your opponent brings up a point in the debate. I know I had good eye contact in the debate, which I feel as if that is key because I know not everyone does well when you stare at them in the face as they try to speak. I feel like it throws them off their game.
Viewing others debates:
- What I noticed with other people is the eye contact and voice projection. Sometimes people weren’t really focused on their opponent and started to stare at other things when their opponents were speaking. A huge thing people were slacking in was the voice projection. When their opponent started to state things that surprised them, they showed that it knocked them off their game with either silence, lower voice projection, or by not giving them eye contact after. I know this affected the outcome of the debate because once this happens people tend to go more towards the side that stands stronger. But one thing I have to say is that you’ll be put on sides of the debate you wont even agree with but this does not mean in the middle of the debate that you start agreeing with the other person because your just handing them the win once you start agreeing with the points they throw at you. But overall I had a good time watching debates, mostly because there were some good debates and watching them helped me be able to strengthen my own.

My debate with William:
On our debate we argued about, "Should Canada declared war on Germany in World War two". At first me and William thought this would be easy but doing the research was actually hard. I was con and William was pro on this topic, which I actually think was difficult for him. When we did our debate I was kind of nervous, not that I was scared but didn't want to mess up in front of my peers. He and I didn't really go over our debate so, we could of did better. We had good points and feel we had a lot of voice and a nice pace tone. Overall we got an A, which is cool because me and him thought we did way worse but we didn't. We could of gotten an A+ if we worked on how we can develop more in our speech, and actually rehearsed. And I think it wasn't a tie think I won ! But our information was good and at one time we did go back and fourth, so now I look back think we earned that A.
Debate of colleagues:
The debates in History class was sentimental. Only two stood out to me Jack and Ericks, then Dinia and Junior. I'm not saying the other debates were boring, just wasn't into them like the authors. Another group with Dimas and William was funny, should of recorded that one to be honest. I like in the end how we decide a winner and the great comments gave to people debating. All of our debates were hard, none of these were easy so everybody NEEDED to know there facts. If you didn't know your facts there wasn't no point of going up, but everybody did so congrats on everybody on that. So overall we did okay, but we can do better

- reflection on Junior and Dinia debate
I felt that Dinia and I debate was very good because we both put in time after school to research and make flash cards. Dinia had some very good points and she was also good at shutting me down. Dinia was aggressive and made eye contact with me the whole time and I thought that was very good for her to do that. I also liked how all her facts that she wrote down she was able to have more than one thing to say to back them up in her argument. I had good points and I defended then with many facts and I also was aggressive and gave eye contact with Dinia which was very good because I wanted her to feel intimidated by me and my points. But over all Dinia and I did a good job on our debate and I would like to always argue against her.
-reflection on someone else's group
I found this group debate really interesting and it was jerylis and shaquan debate. I really like how shaquan opened with a question and jerylis wasn't able to answer and off of jerylis not answer he was proving a point towards his debate that no one really knew if Hitler and the Nazi was to blame for the Holocast. I like how jerilys had her points organized and was able to have a counter argument for every point shaquan had. Jerylis had good body language and good eye contact throughout the whole debate and I found there's really fun. Muy ying and Naomie debate was also pretty good because I learned about what was going on inside a concentration camp. I really like how Naomie said if you destroy the main problem all the others won't know what to do. I also liked how Muy ying was able to come up with some good points that Naomie was able to answer. But over all I felt that they were nervous and they were rushing through it but if they were relaxed and calm it would have been great.

Reflection on My Debate:
I thought that the debate with William R. was fun. When William and I got our question, “Should the Nazis be solely to blame for World War 2?” We picked who was going to be pro or con, it was hard to pick, but we would helped each other on brainstorming the topics that we was going to talk about during the debate, like the Treaty of Versailles, the Holocaust and the League of Nations. Having a good debate is by knowing the pros and cons of each others topics, so me and William was researching many of those topics and its pros and cons that would help us out on having a good debate. When we were up for the debate, our goal was to make the debate interesting and a little bit comical, which it worked out good. Doing the debate was easy but a little nervous, even though I had good notes in my flash cards and was confident, I just did not want William say something back and I would say the something wrong that would eventually prove any of Williams points, but it worked out good for both of us that we made our debate fun for the class. Another thing that I liked from the debate was after the debate, having my classmates give me and William their opinions on our debate and how it would have turned out if we had improved more of what we were saying. The only thing that I would like to have changed during the debate was let William have a chance to talk more because I mostly interrupted on what he was saying to prove my point. Overall, the debate was fun and I learned many things while researching the pros and cons of my debate question. I prefer of doing more debates in class to be able to get used to being in front of people and being able to improve more.
Reflection on My Classmates Debates:
There were so many different topics that my classmates had to debate on, some were easy and some were hard, some were disagreeable and some were agreeable. The first debate was intriguing because the debaters had so many good points about their pros and cons which went back and forth that it was so hard to choose a winner, so it had to be a tie. There were other debates that were interesting, but there were others that did not came to my expectations. There were some classmates that did not speak in a high voice, so it was hard for me to hear their arguments. Some of the debates were a land slide because one person would have all the information that would back up their claim which would shock the other person and it affected them by not knowing what to say or having the information to make the others claim debatable. Then were some that agree on the others claim and it no longer becomes a debate because you already agree on the same claim, like at least try to make it debatable, but I understand some of the issues with the debates like, the questions that they picked were hard to debate or having to choose a pro or a con, or maybe the nerves kicked in during the debate. Overall I learned new information about World War 2 like the Auschwitz camps or about Canada being in war or not. I thought there could have been improvements with confidence for some of my classmates that would have made their debates interesting. If our class had more debates, there would have been a lot of improvements for each of my classmates that would have improved the way they debate.

Reflection on my debate:
- My debate was with Carlos. Our topic was "Should the U.S. Have entered WWII?" In this debate I was the pro while Carlos was the con. Although our debate was not the best, I felt like we both did pretty good. This topic was sort of hard especially for Carlos (the con) but I feel like he still had good points and so did I. I think I could've gotten more information on why the U.S should have joined the war especially some points that would go against Carlos' points. There was not that much passion in our debate, which I'm kind of glad because things would've gotten really serious. The points that were presented were pretty clear and understandable. We did have eye-contact throughout the debate and our tone of voice was at a good level for the audience to hear us.
Reflection on my classmates debate:
- I was told that Jack and Erick, and Junior and Dinia's debate had a lot of passion and was good but sadly I was not there to see it. In that case I choose to write about Jerilys and Shaquan's debate. I feel like their debate was very passionate. They both had good and clear points to support their claims. In my opinion, I think that Jerilys won this debate because she had good points and was confident about what she was saying. I still think that Shaquan did good though, he also had some good points and backed up his claims but maybe if he was more confident and had more examples it would've been better. They made eye-contact and had a good level on the tone of their voice in order for everyone to hear. Overall, I think that they both did good and that their debate was good.

ReplyDeleteDEBATE REFLECTION
My debate was with Dianna. This is only my third time ever in my life that I have performed an actual debate on a topic. So I did not expect to do well, moreover the topic difficulty lowered expectations even more. I felt that body language was not kept as formal as I would have liked. Information was decent on the pro side, my side, con, was not. Information was too hard to understand and find to create a decent argument, most information came from “conspiracy creep” type people and the one paper which had all the facts did not successfully connect all of them into a coherent argument. As a consequence, arguments were not as strong as I would have liked. Information was not well understood; information I found was vague and had to somehow create arguments using that little information. The debate was brief so there was not much to analyze in terms of formal tone and all that fuzz. I sounded worried because I did not know what to say or counter with.
Most of my classmates’ debates were very good, informed and passionate. I felt that Dimas, although talking with passion, brought up WW1 all of a sudden and never let William talk. A nice debate overall. The language they used was nice, not casual and not formal; pretty understandable. Other groups like Jack and Erick’s used more formal language, gestures and tone of voice. Jack and Erick excelled in information and understanding, I felt they knew what they were talking about. They also had strong arguments and counter arguments against each other all the time and managed to squeeze all that information in the 5 minutes given to debate. I would dare say that Jack and Erick had the best debate.

As a former IB full diploma candidate, I have to follow some characteristics that were given to us when we entered this program. To be principled, risk-taker, knowledgeable, balanced, communicator, reflective, caring, thinkers, open-minded and inquire are these characteristics that are going to help me to succeed threw the IB program of my last 2 years in high school. Aside from those characteristics, I know that when it comes to doing my work; I have to take things serious and with effort so that I can achieve success. For my debate, when ms.noce had passed out the questions which led to knowing who our partners were; I could say that I knew our debate was going to be interesting. I admire Jack’s knowledge in our history class so I knew things were going to run smooth. I could say that I was a bit frightened because I thought that it was going to be a huge obstacle to at least argue against Jack’s points so of course the best way to find out was to practice so that same day we got together to see what we had in mind without even looking for information. In our little practice I got to see a side from myself that I think I don’t use a lot and that’s to really listen, evaluate, observe and then reply which is something that I needed to start using cause my debate was days away. Before the debate I reflected on my articulation and how I was going to about in responding on my classmates saying. Of course to make the debate fun and a bit interesting I should have screamed or maybe argued in a sort of rude tone but I just decided to keep it professional. In the date of the debate I felt a bit nervous but I kept a positive mindset and the debate occurred. I really felt confident about the points that I brought forward and felt really confident about what I was going to say. Going against one of the smartest kids in class was really a privilege and a good experience to have because going back and forth on the debate I really got to exceed and surpass on more than what I thought I knew but I conclusion I can say that I’m very proud of myself and my debate; I believe that I did a good job and I got great feedback from my classmates. Not only were they silent and respectful but they showed interest and observation in what Jack and I brought forward which was a really good experience.
As an audience of my fellow classmates, I believe that it was a decent experience. The debate was a fun activity in which I got the chance to see if I agreed or disagreed without stating my points since it wasn’t my debate. I am very proud of someone of my friends who really brought everything they had; it was really good to watch because sometimes is best to see your friends express themselves and observe their true knowledge. Shout out to Jerilys and Shaquan’s debate, Junior and Dinia’s debate; both debates were amazing and I loved the passion hat both debates brought forward. Now, I can speak for myself and say that I believe that I kept my mouth shut and tried to be as respectful as possible because I know that when I was up there doing my debate everyone was attentive and respectful. Yes there were some accidents and some miscommunications, but all in all I think that as a body of IB History 11 scholars; we should not focus on the negative but more of “what can we do to keep the class respectful and to not offend anyone?” this should be our essential question because everyone is responsible for their actions but just because they are doesn’t mean that we can come as a group and try to find a way to fix things in the classroom. I did notice interruptions on some of my classmates’ debates but to those who caused these interruptions; we need to find a way to keep things as respectful as possible because our learning environment should always consist of respect to one another. In conclusion, when speaking for myself I can assure that I didn’t cause no interruptions or any mislead that lead to the class to get tensed but since I am part of this class I can apologize for any disregard that was established during some of the debates. On a positive note, congratulations to everyone that participated in the debates because I believe everyone did an amazing Job.

Debate Reflections
My debate topic was “Was the Canadian government justified in interning Japanese Canadians during World War II” I personally think that me and my partner Junior, did a good job on the subject. we had flash cards that help guide us through the debate. And also because of the used the research we did to answer and develop the debate. Me and him shared points and attempted to practice. But I didn't disclose all of my points and save the best for last. Those points that I made during the debate about, the letter that was sent, which proved that the Japanese were innocent a the apology that was made to the Japanese canadians by the canadian government completely caught Junior off guard and from time to time he would switch the subject, which i found very entertaining. Junior also made so very good points to which were a little challenging to answer. Me and Junior had great eye contact, but i was just bit aggressive towards him cutting him off and all.
Our response were on point and relevant to the topic, aside from Junior asking me “why the sky was blue!.From the feedback we got from the class it seem that everyone had a clear understanding to our topic. And i was said to be the winner.
Reflection on the classmates Debates
I enjoyed all the debates that that were performed out all of them Jack and Eric, Dimas and William and the last debate, stood out to me the most. They had great eye contact and relevant and sufficient evidence to support their claims and points. Dimas and Williams debate was quite comical and entertaining to watch i cracked a few laughs. As to the others so I couldn't hear the debate and the points that were being made. Next time they should project their voices more so the whole class can hear and understand.

Reflection on my debate with Stephanie
The topic Stephanie and I were assigned for our debate was "Should awareness of other minorities persecuted by the Nazis be popularized during holocaust memorials?" I was pro and Stephanie was con. I feel like my debate with Stephanie was okay but not the best. The debate had low energy and lasted for a short amount of time. I believe that I didn't show much passion into what I was debating about but I knew what I was talking about. I think that based on the topic it is harder to be con than it is to be pro because why would somebody be against minorities getting recognition at memorials? Doing this debate gave me experience for future debates and an opportunity to see what goes into preparation for a debate. Overall I think I didn't debate to my fullest potential and I could've done better.
Reflection on my classmate's debates
After viewing all of my classmate's debates I can say that everyone did a great job. Everyone was engaged in their debates and I can tell that there was research done on the topics assigned. The debates that stood out to me were Dimas' and William's as well as Jack's and Erick's. Dimas' and William's debate was full of energy mostly on Dimas' part and often became aggressive but passionate also. All the energy and eagerness in their debate was what drew me in. Jack's and Erick's debate was very informative and full of excellent points regarding their topic. I find that their topic was difficult because there are many ways WWII could have been prevented as well as couldn't of been prevented, there's really no right or wrong answer because there are a lot of possibities. Both had great comebacks which made it hard to choose who won the debate. All the debates executed by my classmates showed that they took it seriously and knew what they were debating about.

---- Self Debate Reflection
My debate question was “Should Auschwitz have been bombed?” My partner was Naomie and she go for the topic. During our discussion, my partner didn’t gave me the chance to choose which side I wanted to go with. Which I don’t like it, because its not fair and it makes me have different attitude toward her. So there is nothing I can do to changed but to prepared facts to backup my side to debate. After finish to collect facts, I was kind of confident but not at the same time. Because I m a shy and quiet person(I think is because of my culture and the environment I grow up). I don’t feel like talking in-front of my classmates and I was very nervous before and during the debate. Because of my nervousness, it makes me mess up and my mind was kind of blink. I don’t know what to say, even though I had all the evidence on my hand. I had the evidence for how the prisoners got out of the camp and why is not bombed. But my partner did a pretty good job that she speak out all her evidence and the points she made was very good. Through out the debate, I had eye-contact with my partners but the volume of my voice need to raise. I don’t think my classmates can hear what I said and I feel so bad that I did not do a good job on my debate.
---- Classmates Debate Reflection
I see all the deates from my classmates. I think they all did a very good job to debate in-front of the class. The debate that I most like was Dinia and Junior’s debate, because from all the debates that I see, their debate was really like the real debate. Through out the whole debate, Dinia had very good evidence to support her claims and her voice was loud enough to show she objections towards the topic. They both had eye-contact throughout the debate and their voice was at the level where everyone can hear it. From the debate, Junior was at the weak side all the time and Dinia was at the strong side. Because whatever Junior said, Dinia always had facts to argue and backup her claims at the same time. And at the end, I think is Dinia won the debate. But throughout all these debates, Dinia always had facts for all other debates and she made good points towards the topic. I think she did really good job and good contribution to the class. And I enjoy all the debates.

Reflection on Classmates
The debates among my classmates went very well. Majority of the debates had very excellent counter arguments. It was clear to me that my classmates had studied and researched about their topic. Many of the groups that presented their debate had strong and very precise facts. Also all of their arguments were rational. Not only their information was correct, but they had a great sense of respect to one another. They were some levels of entertainment that had happened, but it went along with their debate. I truly enjoyed watching the debates because I learned some skills that I could have used when it came to my turn. Everybody seemed structured, and knew what they were speaking about. What I really loved the most was how everybody had a chance to speak their minds even if they were on the Pro, or Con side. The debate teams were sincere about what they were saying, and put all of their assurance towards the debate. Being in the audience I wasn’t really able to keep eye contact with them, but the teams were very passionate enough to keep me listening. Watching these debates that my class had conducted was remarkable and pleasurable!
Reflection on Myself
In my participation of the debate, at first it was a tough decision for me to choose from. My debate topic was “Should Auschwitz have been bombed?” So I and my partner had a tough time deciding who is going to be either pro, or con. But when we made that final decision, I ended up being pro and my partner was con. When it came time to present I was very nervous because I didn't know how to defend a topic that I didn't agree with. I learned how show confidence towards a topic that you didn't like. So I practiced many times reciting what my major point were, and then I became immune to them. Then after that the eye contact and body language came naturally. Honestly this was a great experience because I learned my strengths and weaknesses about speaking in public. It was an experience that will definitely have a long term effect. My partner and I were feeling very confident, and we had strong arguments and facts. So when it was our turn to show our classmates, we felt good about what we researched. We believed the audience would enjoy our debate.
My performance in the debate:
ReplyDeleteI attempted to keep strong but civil body language and do not think I came across as blatantly rude in my gesticulation or posture. Similarly, both myself and my partner kept academic and polite language while strongly disagreeing with each other. My facts were accurate and the references I used were credible. The assumptions I made were prefaced with a disclaimer that it was not solid fact and the generalizations were appropriate. I attempted to present various sides of my argument whilst keeping my responses in my favor. The counter-arguments I presented were relevant in response to my partner’s points. Factual evidence and strong examples were used to support the counter-arguments. I believe that the statements I made were all supported by factual or circumstantial evidence and applied to the topic of debate but I, of course, have room for improvement. I used various relevant examples as well to address and support my points and arguments. The responses and original points I made were relevant to the topic and my partner’s arguments. My points were as clear as I could make them and I believe I presented them in a logical order as the debate flowed. Both my partner and I looked to strongly believe in our assigned perspectives for the debate and were very strong in our delivery. We managed to convince each other and our audience of our accuracy on various points to a degree. My partner presented an equal level of enthusiasm as I which I believe to be appropriate and severe. We both took advantage of our space and gesticulated to support our arguments which engaged the audience.
Other students’ performances in the debates:
Some students were very polite and used academic language while others slipped into colloquialisms throughout their debates. Overall, I think that the class maintained a fairly appropriate level of respect in their own debates. Some team members used facts from misguided sources and missed important points that would have added to their performance and others presented unclear arguments that had to be clarified post-debate. Many students in the class hounded their points in an effective manner using accurate and relevant information however. In every debate there was at least one student with explicitly clear and strong arguments in response to their partner. I especially enjoyed the debates in which the two performers were more evenly matched in their arguments. As we all are in the process of learning, no one had a perfect set of points but most had major points that were almost all very strong and relevant. There were also many very good examples of factual evidence and quotations. Some debates rambled a bit but, for the most part, the teams stayed on topic and responded well to each other’s points and arguments. Many teams circled a specify aspect of their prompt and responded to each other to argue this point thoroughly. Most teams presented comprehensive, strong and accurate information. Some teams mentioned arguments that were inaccurate but delivered them very forcefully—at least two students managed to “beat” their opponent in this fashion. All teams were visibly invested in the debates and generally were able to maintain eye-contact with their partner and respond using hand-gestures despite proclaiming nervousness. Some students had difficulty keeping a strong and projected voice and using enthusiastic gestures but still were able to get their points across.
Jack Roberts
Madelis (Con) and Samantha (Pro) Debate
ReplyDeleteSamantha’s and my debate was about whether the collaborators should share the responsibility of the Holocaust with Hitler. I feel that during our debate Samantha and I did in fact use appropriate body and verbal language. I feel this way because were both kept our own personal space and didn’t use any inappropriate language. Both of us were clear on what we were trying to say but I feel that we could have improve on our word choice. I felt that I did a good job at using examples to connect it with some of my facts while on the other hand Samantha did not use any examples. I also knew what I was talking about. I was very confident on what I was saying while Samantha was wasn’t so confident. In the beginning she was totally going strong then when I started saying my examples she kind of started agreeing with me. In conclusion, our debate was very good and successful and I feel that we deserve and A.
Jack and Erick’s Debate
This debate was about whether or not World War Two could have been prevented. Jack was con while Erick was pro. For starters both Jack and Erick knew exactly what they were talking about. They both had very good examples backing every fact. They were also very clear and spoke very clearly. They were speaking with an appropriate and professional tone. They were looking dead at each other and respected one another while one was talking. They were both confidante with what they were saying however I did notice some hesitation with Jack. Furthermore, he did notify the class that he did in fact agree with this question this is why it was hard for him to show such confidence. In conclusion, I feel that with the exception that Jack agreed with this question, both knew exactly what they were talking about and both deserve an A.

Debate Reflection #1:
- I believe my debate with Quan was good. It was very difficult for Quan because most of the information online was in my favor, not his. But he did bring some very good points which made the debate interesting. Our voice projections were good and we made eye contact, which is good during a debate. We both understood the topic very well therefore, we knew what we were talking about.I believe we were a good team.
Debate Reflection #2:
- I believe some of my classmates did better than others. For example, during a debate the person needs to speak loud, make eye contact, use strong evidence, stick to their position and study their topic. Sadly, not all of my classmates did not do all of the above. But, I must say we all did a decent job for our first debate. Next time, I suggest to make more eye contact and speak louder. Overall, I believe we all did a good job because the topics were not easy at all.

Reflection on other Teams:
Over all, I think that the majority of the teams did a good job with their debates. Some were very loud and passionate like William and Dimas and others contained a lot of information such as Erick and Jack. However, there were some debates where I wished the two partners could have projected their voices a little bit so it was easier to hear what they were saying. I also wished that some partners could have elaborated a little bit more on their evidence because it was sometimes difficult to see the connection between their topic and the evidence they used to support their side. Nonetheless, I was still interested in their debate because I really liked their topic. I especially enjoyed how some debates led to a whole class discussion. I really enjoyed that because now I could listen to what other people thought about the situation and not just the two people who were pro and con. That alone just proved how these topics are still controversial today despite these events happening many years ago.
Reflection on my Debate:
I really liked the topic that I was assigned to but wish I could have made my points a little bit stronger. Part of me wishes I could go back in time so that could just completely start over. I was feeling pretty confident with the information I had gathered for this topic and I honestly thought that my evidence was strong and relevant to the topic but when Madelis caught me off guard with her one question, all that confidence and relevance sort of went down the drain. That’s probably why I sounded like a broken record repeating the same thing over because at that point I didn’t think my flash cards could help me. I regret not researching this topic thoroughly enough because my side did look a little weak. I’m glad that I wasn’t the only one who did this. There were other debates where one person was caught off guard which gave their partner the advantage to make their side stronger. If anything, I learned that you should do as much research as possible and plan ahead. Maybe even think of some questions the opposing side might ask so that you know what you’re going to say. I give props to my partner Madelis. In the upcoming group debates all she needs to do is ask a question that catches the opposing side off guard :)
