To what extent were the social and economic policies of the following successful: Mao, Nasser, Stalin?

    MAO-
Mao is also known for the creation of the China’s socialist revolution from 1949 till 1976, Mao did both good and bad for the population in China. To begin with this, life expectancy under Mao actually increased from a staggering 32 to 65. The violence around China also decreased, at some point violence overall was so low that it became nearly the most safest country to be in.
Before Mao took over China to be under his control, China’s economy was hitting rock bottom, China was the world’s source for the Opium drug that circulate the world (even up to this date!), for women in China, living there was like living in hell, women had little rights and were constantly outlawed, but all of this were changed under Mao. China’s economy grew at a very shocking rate, making themselves the scene around the world with major industrial power. Agriculture was big in China, and under Mao, it grew by a small percentage every year fixing the rural infrastructure and the distribution of food for the population.

    NASSER-
Nasser became leader of Egypt in October 1954. Nasser had multiple policies for the future of Egypt, though, overall a part of population were not so happy with his of being a leader for Egypt. Nasser wanted to build a new constitution that gave him lots of power in the government. With Nasser being the leader, economy in Egypt were always at an decline rating and this caused anger from the public, causing the public to attempt to oppose, Nasser were simply arresting or killing oppositionists during his years of leading. At some point many Egyptians were leaving the country to find a better country to live in. On the bright side, Egypt had a very large debt with trading which was actually increasing as years went by. When the Suez canal was taken over under Nasser, this caused the Soviet Union to become closer with Nasser, the Soviets wanted to be a part of the new Suez canal. Nasser was finally out of the Egypt power after the “Six-Day War”, his resignation was announced to the public over t.v. and radio.

    STALIN-
Stalin became the leader of Russian from 1927 till 1939. Stalin had multiple goals he had to accomplish for Russia and its people, he wanted to improve the country’s economy, social and political policies. He wanted a stronger country, a stronger army to defend their selves from invasion from other countries. With the social population, he wanted to make Russia a better living place from the population, he wanted to restore the rights for the women. Stalin wanted to improve Russia’s economy with industrialization, he wanted to take full control of resources around Russia and this act was “The First Five Year Plan” which would somewhat create an industrial revolution. Around the World, Russia was seen by the people’s eye as a country were rising as a power, meanwhile these same people did not know exactly the harsh rules for the laborers in Russia and the prisons were overflowing. There were a good and a bad side viewing Russia.

    Authoritarian single party states

An authoritarian single party state is usually a single party state and one party system and even known as a single political party that has many rights like forming a self government coming from a background of the country’s constitution. These single party states that have the control also have the right to turn down any other party that tries to rise and if they do, their power would be limited. These parties were some of the strongest regimes that came from leaders who took this to the heart and portrayed it forward into their countries. Leaders like Mao Zedong from China, Joseph Stalin from the Soviet Union and Gamal Abdel Nasser from Egypt were all leaders who took this single party idea and implemented these on their country; but, the extent that the social and economic policies in terms of success where successful but only to an extent.
Mao, Chinese communist Chairman and founding father of the Communist Party of China was a man of a single purpose, to push forward his ideas and leaning towards his political and economic policies. There were also social policies that Mao had against him which comes the ideals of the Marxist-Leninism which later turned into the Chinese version of theories called the Maoism theories. His social policies were very strict and sometimes terrifying. In the Beginning of his rule, anyone who opposed his regime would be killed but things got a bit more extreme. Mao decided to make sure that any information that came from outside the world into the country should be checked by officials so that the Communist stability would stay and not be taken down by any spies or anything alike. China was now pressured to be monitorized daily just in case there was any operation that could have led to the unsafety of the Mao. Mao’s economic policies were kept as the communist order follows it; everyone receives the same thing. There wasn’t any property that belongs to anyone but only the ones that came from wealthy families like him would have the privilege to have land as long as they cultivate for the country. Mao as child was early introduced to Chinese’s nationalist and anti-imperialist outlooks of his life so coming to power was just the necessary thing he needed to push forward Maonism and his policies in China.

  3. Joseph Stalin was leader of the Soviet Union in the 1920’s which got him to power by participating and things like the Russian Revolution, being appointed as general secretary in the general revolutionist committee and found his way through power after the death of Vladimir Lenin. Stalin’s economic policies were very strict like Mao’s; following the same strict format of having equal rights under the country’s constitution. Although Stalin came from Georgia, he went up to Russia to jump in the Russian revolution and then take over as he did. The social policies that the Soviet Union had been more free then Mao’s. Stalin wanted to win people’s trust not have them hate him. His implementation of the policies where to aim to have a single party (Soviet Union) that would have dominance of most of Asia like an empire were people can have and know about the communistic ideals and how they could “change” people’s lives. He Provided Jobs from people since at the time, the early 1900’s were times of coming out from the cultivistic era to the industrialization which brought many opportunities for the countries under the Soviet Union to build themselves.
Gamal Abdel Nasser was the second president of Egypt. His planning to overtake the monarchy in Egypt took place in the early 1950’s bringing forward his ideals of neutralism. Neutralism was a form of government that was a single-party. This form of government gave Nasser an advantage over other western powers because this form of government basses itself on a policy of political neutrality. No one was allowed to have a vote only the government itself, as long as Nasser approved. The social policies were not successful like Mao’s and Stalin because Nasser having brought in the government of neutrality didn’t give people what they wanted and just began to have problems during his regime. The economy in Egypt became very bad due to blockage of riots. Nasser didn’t back down from his position and began to form attacks against countries like Israel. This brought social chaos because there was no conflict till he decided t bring it forward but Israel taking over the Sinai Peninsula and having allies and Egypt alone, Nasser needed to be down of presidency. People didn’t need to take him down as Nasser got a heart attacked and passed away leaving the violence behind which still continues on today.

To what extent were the social and economic policies of the following successful: Mao, Nasser, Stalin?

Mao’s goals were to attain national unity, social and economic change and he wanted freedom from foreign interference. In the beginning before the era of the Cultural revolution Mao’s during the Chinese were accepting of the goals Mao wanted to achieve for China. When it came to Mao’s social policy, he followed the policy of alliance. Mao allied himself with intellectuals, middle class, and the merchants hoping that they worked together to achieve his goal. The Chinese government seeing the potential in Mao’s idea at some point support him and created a vaeirty of new laws and life in countryside. Landlords during this era were the targets. the state took over the land that the feudal lords and rich (ancient-capitalist) farmers had. Due to this action the rural markets were quickly improved and were turned into more energetic places, where economic and social exchange can be made. This event gave more privileges to the farmers and artisans, they gained more freedom due to their productive activities. By the ways things seemed mao was very successful with his policies of social and economic change.

The social and economic policies were successful under the rule of Nassar because Egypt’s economy increased at 9% per annum for a period of ten years. The GDP grew from around 14% during the late 1940s to 35% in the 1970s. Land reform was a big topic during the British occupation of Egypt less than 5% of the citizens own land. So when the British left the people were left with 65% fertile land that the british controlled. This new gain provided them with a way to expand their population and vegetation. And also, due to the british creation of the Suez Canal, Egypt had access to other countries, which increased its economy due to trade and business with foreign countries.

The social and economic policies of Stalin Were successful to the extent that it improved the literacy rates of the people, which was caused by compulsory education. He increased the rights of women and the could now attain employment. But the economy on the other land did not improve it seems as if it worsen. Since this Stalin was a control freak he had control over everything in the country the media, and etc. The five year plan that was created to help the economy failed. The people had poor living conditions, working conditions and wages.

To what extent were the social and economic policies of the following successful: Mao, Nasser, Stalin?

Mao, was a fierce leader for China because of the past leaders that came before him. Since in power he wanted to change China and made it the nation they are today. He had the education level go up, made it easier for people that wasn't wealthy with jobs and made sure he had a strong alliance. Even though the USA had the strongest army, China was a runner up but violence was never the case with Mao. You can see that Mao is the MLK of China by doing marches and peaceful protesting to get people on his side. He was a great leader so Mao was very successful in soical and economic in China. For Nassir that ruled over Egypt wasn't very successful in what he did. He wasn't a fare leader and really didn't care for the people. Actually he would kill and arrest people out of power. Is that a good leader or a person you want to represent your nation. He resigned at the Six-Day war where it was broadcast. With this you can tell it wasn't very successful for him. Same goes to Stalin he wanted to role and have complete control on everybody, which is not right. Even though he wanted to raise the eduaction system, there was still poor wages in Russia, it still needed more work. He also tried to fo the five year plan that would help his nation but that also failed and took more time. At the end of this to me Mao was the best leader at this because he never gave up or quit, kept trying. He build China from the ground up and didn't look back

  6. MAO ZEDONG
The social and economic policies under Mao Zedong’s control was successful but to some extent. Some of the good deeds that he did were doubling the life expectancy in China, lowered the violence in China, and increased the literacy rate from 15% to 80%. These changes were very beneficial to China and its society and economy. However, there were some flows when he came into power. The women in China had it rough. They had to marry a guy who they didn’t even love. It was also rough for them because back in the day men didn’t like women with big feet so the women’s had to wrap their feet so that their foot would stay small. I feel that Mao did a good job with the society as a whole but when it came to the women he failed miserably.

    GAMAL ABDEL NASSER
The social and economic policies under Gamal Abdel Nasser was successful. Although his ideologies were good, the way he performed was extremely rude. When Nasser came into power no one really opposed to this because no one dared to challenge him. If someone did so they would be murdered or brutality hurt. Nasser’s economic polices was beneficial to Egypt because he secured funds for the Aswan High Dam. By doing so, he was able to gain more support from America. Also, by creating this dam it increased the number of crops produced. Nasser’s social polices also benefited Egypt because he increased the living standards, provided jobs for the lower class, and he made education more affordable for the lower class. Finally I think that Nasser had a good idea of how Egypt should be, but the way he executed his plan was morally wrong.

    JOSEPH STALIN
The social and economic policies under Joseph Stalin was successful. All Stalin wanted to do was to fix Russia. By doing that he provided women with jobs. Even though the jobs that were given to the women lower position jobs they still got jobs. Stalin was very big on family so he made it difficult for married people to get a divorced and he made abortion a crime. Which I completely agree with 100%. Stalin also made health services free and made the holidays from work were paid for (this applied to the women as well). I think that Stalin did a good job and put in some effort to help the women. However I think that he could have stopped the discrimination against the women.

To what extent were the social and economic policies of the following successful: Mao, Nasser, Stalin?
--Mao, first Chairman and founder of the People’s Republic China. The social and economic policies under Mao was somewhat successful. The things that got improved under Mao’s controlled are life expectancy doubled, violence rate had lower and the education had a huge increase from 1949 to mid-1970s. Mao and the other Communist leaders started to created or reform China’s society after the civil war. Under Mao’s policies, industries came under state ownership and farmers are began to organised into collectives. Obviously opposition from citizens are being ruthlessly suppressed. At first, the Soviet Union offer significant help to China but then things started happened and cause the two countries relationship began to cool down. Between 1949 to 1976, Chinese people’s life had a great improvement. In 1949, before the revolution, China was controlled by foreign imperialist powers. During the time, the economy was poor and according to the world development scale China was near the bottom. Before 1949, social evils and extreme polarization of wealth exist. The proletarian state power being established and created a social and economic order that motivated the people and served their favors. Land reform was also a big issue during the time because they open up repudiation of peasant debt, deprivation and redistribution of wealth transfer to poor. During Cultural Revolution, Mao done a good job leading the industrial economy impressively where an average rate of 10% increase each year. From 1949 to 1976, China had been transformed from “sick man of Asia” to the major industrial power of the century and its the greatest surges of growth. Most surprisingly is that no help or assistance from other foreign countries. Before 1970, adequate feeding was a problem in China. The problem solved by the accomplishment of integrated economic planning. Its a system where agriculture that promoted grass-roots mobilization, flood control, steady investment in rural infrastructure the equitable distribution of food to peasants and rationing of essential foods so that all people were guaranteed their minimal requirements. This shows that China had the ability to feed their people by doing so that means they had a good economy system at the back supporting them.

  8. --Gamal Abdel Nasser was the second Egypt President. The social and economic policies under Nasser controlled was successful because Egypt had experienced a golden age of culture during the time period. The most successful field are theatre, poetry, radio, film, fine arts, comedy, television, literature and music. These fields had produce a lot of famous singers and actors/actress. This had help improve the economy because of a huge amount of film production. During the time, Egypt’s economy and GDP had keep increasing for almost a decades. Land reform was a big issues because when British occupied Egypt there are very little citizen had own lands. Later the British left a lot of fertile land and the Egyptians take advantages of these lands to expand agriculture to help increase its economy.
--Joseph Stalin, leader and the General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union. The social and economic policies under Stalin’s controlled was successful. Stalin had increased the education rate by making it for free because before Stalin the education rate was very low especially in the rural areas. After Stalin announce that education was for free, the rate had increased to 86% and this will beneficial to the society. Economy was one of Stalin’s main focus. Therefore, he allow the women’s rights which women are able to worked in factories, even though is low status work but still they got a job and can make money. Women actually benefited the economy because of the influx of new workers. Stalin wanted to accomplished his lofty economic five year plans, in order to accomplished Stalin would needed more people to work in factories, therefore need to increase birth rate. But during the time, birth rates fell dramatically because there are higher rate of divorce over marriages and a large amount of homeless children because they was not born in a marriage family. Stalin decided to focused on strengthen family values and units. Therefore, Stalin passed policies to made divorce difficult, families with large amount of children can had tax benefit and the purpose of used incentives to motivated marriages was to increase birth rate to accomplish his 5 year plans.

Mao was one of the founding father of the people republic of China. The violence around China decreased. Before Mao was in power the economy was at its all time low. Women in China living during this time had no rights and was always outlawed. When Mao came to power China's economy grew and they became the major industrial power.
Nasser was not a very good leader of Egypt. He was unfair and did not care a lot about the people more about himself. He was also a very ruthless leader and he was throwing people in jail and killing them. He also seemed to be a weak leader and a coward because when things got worse he would want to leave. When the six-day war was happening he resigned on national television.
Joesph Stalin was a very good leader for Russia because all he wanted to do were a mess. When he fixed Russia he provided women with jobs not realt good job but paying jobs that was good enough. Stalin overall was a good leader for Russia because he did all of good things for everyone overall. Stalin made Russia a better place for everyone especially the women.

To what extent were the social and economic policies of the following successful: Mao, Nasser, Stalin?

    Mao Zedong
Mao Zedong was born into a peasant family on December 26, 1893 in the province of Hunan in central China. He became a founding father of the Chinese Communist Party(CCP) in 1921 and even established a branch in his hometown of Hunan. Having been victorious in the civil war against the Kuomintang, Zedong and the rest of the communist sought out to reconstruct Chinese civilization with the financial help of the Soviet Union. It wasn’t until 1958, when the CCP wanted to produce a form of communism that wasn’t heavily based on that of the Soviet Union. “The Great Leap Forward” was Zedong’s attempt to created a more “Chinese” form of communism. It was launched in 1958 with a goal of improving China’s agricultural and industrial production. For the most part, The great Leap Forward did exceptionally well. it led to the creation of communes-groups of people who lived together that shared possessions as well as responsibilities. Each commune was set with completing a task such as steel making. The rate of construction skyrocketed and the production of grain and cotton also increased as well. However, in 1959, there was a massive decline in agriculture and the year’s bad weather produced poor harvests. Famine came shortly thereafter which led to the death of millions of people. Mao Zedong is also noted for his role in the disaster plan known as “the Cultural Revolution” the occurred in 1966. Its goal was to help Zedong re-establish his authority after The Great Leap Forward incident as well as to purge China of impurities that prevented revolutionary spirit. As a result, millions of lives were lost due to a series of violence that occurred with the purges.

    2. Gamal Abdel Nasser
Gamal Abdel Nasser was born in Egypt in 1980. He is known for being Egypt’s second president. During his time of office, Nasser became well known for his neutralist policies. For many years, Egypt had been plagued with British rule. Adopting neutralism was Nasser’s attempt to prevent Western influence. Though, there were time when Nasser would work together with the Soviet Union when it benefited him the most.

    3. Joseph Stalin
In 1920, Joseph Stalin became leader of the Soviet Union. Two major economic policies of Stalin were the Five Year Plans and collectivization. His policies led to some success such as the growth in industrial productions. It was long until the USSR’s [production of grain surpassed that of Germany and Britain. However, Stalin social policies weren't as successful. He enforced unnecessary on labor workers and many people died of famine in his rule.

Mao was successful in social and economic policies because he changed the economy around and made it better. When Mao wasn’t in charge China was doing really bad as a country overall and they needed a leader who could step up and make a change. Since the economy got better, violence also decreased which led to a longer life expectancy. Nasser was not very successful in Egypt as he just made thing worse for the country. People in Egypt didn’t like Nasser because he only wanted to gain power for himself; he was basically like a dictator. Nasser had created a couple of problems and he only made the economy worse for Egypt. Nasser did crucial things like killing people or punishing them for no reason, which sort of reminds me of Hitler and how he killed himself to escape from all the chaos he made. This sort of is the same for Nasser because he resigned after the six-day war leaving Egypt in a worse position. Stalin was successful in social and economic policies and his main goal was to make Russia a strong country. Staling gave the opportunity to women to get a job that paid them and everyone had a job opportunity. Women got many rights as the men; Stalin had improved their economy a lot. Not only did Russia improve the economy but also Russia’s army because his main focus was to make a strong nation that fight any other country.

  12. To what extent were the social and economic policies of the following successful: Mao, Nasser, Stalin?

I would say the social and economic policies of Mao Zedong were successful. Mao was a part of the Chinese leadership that worked to strengthen China by solving economic problems that were caused due to the civil war. The civil war caused a high rate in unemployment and food shortages. Mao wanted to help China get out of the tough situation she was in because of the civil war. Gamal Abdel Nassar was considered to be a dictator so he was not an excellent leader at all. Nassar established a one-party state and ordered anyone who disagreed with his opinions to be executed. Nassar's social and economic policies were somewhat successful because there were a few benefits for the public. For example, there was a network of social services provided for the public. Some of the things provided were: employment, education, healthcare, transportation, and food. Joseph Stalin, like Gamal Abdel Nasser, was also a dictator. Stalin's policies were so evil that he formed an alliance with the Nazis in the 1930s. The Nazis betrayed Russia and that caused Russia to become weak at the hands of Stalin. Because of Germany's betrayal, Russia suffered colossal losses because they were not prepared for Germany's invasion. Due to this, I would say that Stalin's social and economic policies were less successful than those of Nassar and Mao.
