The Spread of Communism Outside Europe and Its Effects on International Relations
Explain why war broke out in Korea in June 1950 and why the US became involved?
War Broke out in Korea in Junie 1950 due to the fact that the North Korea had invaded South Korea. The reason why the US became involved was because they moved in to help the South when the north had invaded them. The chinese people had helped the north with this invasion. This continued until 1953 and the South Koreans were still non-communist.
What were the outcomes and the effects of the war in Korea?
The outcomes and effects of the war in Korea was that it had scarred the North and South Korea bad. The south was helped by the US and they were able to be modernize and industrialize due to there help. The North was different it had a problem with the economy but then in 1990’s it all turned into a crisis.
Explain why the Cold War came to an end, and show how this affected international relations.
The Cold War came to an end due to the countries of NATO and the Warsaw Pact signing a treaty. With the signing of the treaty it resulted in no more weapons could be used for “self-defense” as they say. Then the Cold War had ended and Gorbachev took a lot of credit for that he did. The end of that was was like a huge step forward.
Compare and contrast the relationships between the following: a) The U.S.A. and Russia; the U.S.A. and China; and Russia and China.
The relationship between the U.S.A and Russia is that they have a “bilateral relationship” meaning that they located on the opposite side of the axis. It is between the Russian federation, a successor state of the Soviet Union, and the United States of America. They also maintain a “diplomatic relation” meaning they deal with other countries , and they conduct the negotiations of a person that represents a state. The USA and the China relationship is known as the chinese-us relation. They both have potential and both have been described by world leaders and they have the most bilateral relationship in the century. The relationship between Russia and China is on the opposite ends of “siberia”. They share a land border, they both signed a treaty together for a “ Good-Neighborliness and Friendly Cooperation”. They worked together.
How was "detente" used between the United States and Russia, the United States and China, and China and Russia?
The word Detente means a permanent relaxation of tensions between the East and the West. The way that the US and china used it was that the americans had started to see that there had to be a better way of coping with “communism” and china was anxious about the isolation and they were worried about the American intentions in vietnam after what happen with the invasion in Korea. The way that the Us and Russia used it was that the “detente” for them weren't able to go on without some setbacks. Detente put together momentum again thanks to the Soviet Union. The americans had some extent but reagan was not ready to abandon the project that he had going on. The way that China and Russia use it is that the relations that had an unpleasant taste in the 1950’s because of ideological matters.
ReplyDeleteProvide an example of the United States intervening in another countries foreign relations. Was it justifiable? Why or why not?
The United States became involved in the war of Vietnam. They seen the struggles that they were facing and they supplied the “French” with military and economic aid but it still was not enough. They needed more help in order to be able to be stable and strong like other countries.
Why was Salvador Allende overthrown?
The Salvador Allende was overthrown due to the fact that he denounced his rule to be “unconstitutional” he was the one that ruled it and called for his overthrown by force.
What caused civil war in South Vietnam?
What caused the civil war in South Vietnam that the US tried to prevent the spread of communism but it was a fail. The president had refused to make an act of preparing for the elections for Vietnam. The US helped them increase the military attendance in South Vietnam.
In what ways did Truman’s policy of “limited warfare” in Korea set the pattern of military conflict up to 1990?
The ways that Truman’s policy of “limited warfare” in Korea set the pattern of military conflict up to 1990 was that Truman pushed for destruction and the disagreement increased the cost of the commands and career’s.
Assess the significance for the development of the Cold War between 1945 and 1950 of three of the following:
The Yalta Conference, 1945
The Yalta Conference was known for the meetings of the heads of governments of the United States, United Kingdom, and the Soviet Union. The reason for that was to discuss the “Europeans post war”. The meeting’s were to talk about nations of the war-torn Europe. Then the Cold war had divided the continent and Yalta became a intenses “controversy”.
The Iron Curtain speech, 1946
The Iron Curtain speech had divided Europe into two different areas from the end of the WW11 until the end of the Cold War in 1991. Basically the Iron Curtain was a form of defenses between the places in Europe.
The Truman Doctrine and the Marshall Plan, 1947
The expulsion of Yugoslavia from the Soviet block, 1948
The Berlin Blockade and Airlift, 1948-1949
The Berlin Blockade was one of the most major crisis of the Cold War it affected them a lot. The Airlift was made due to all of the countries that began the massive berlin airlift, the countries that started this was United States, Britain, France, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and many others.
The formation of NATO, 1949.

1. While it remains unclear why North Korea invaded South Korea, most historians have suggested that it was of Kim II Sung's own accord, urged by the statement made by Dean Acheson, secretary of state for the US, in which he said that the US would protect areas around the Pacific but not Korea. Some historians suggest that Sung was encouraged by the Chinese communist government while others suggest that Russia was responsible due to the fact that they had supplied North Korea with weapons. The most accepted theory today is that Kim II Sung wanted to unify Korea in which the USSR and China approved of yet refused to get involved with. The US decided intervene for several reasons, one of them being that president Truman believed that the invasion was of Russia's doing and that they wanted to spread communism as much as possible. Truman also believed that since the US failed the league of Nations, it was of top priority for the US to not fail the United Nations Organization whose goal was to preserve international peace.
2. The war had left Korea in a catastrophic state. Four million soldiers and civilians had died while five million people were left without a home. Instead of unifying Korea, the war had seemingly left Korea forever divided as the North and the South. President Truman was pleased to have the US contain communism however, the Republicans felt that the US missed out on the chance to eliminate communism in China. The United Nations proved to be a decent successor of the League of Nations however, communists labeled it as a tool for capitalists. The war also showed how the Chinese military proved to be a formidable force seeing how it prevented the unification of Korea and displayed aspects of being a world power. The war had also put further strains on the the relationships between the US, China, and Russia.
3. The cold war mostly ended do to communism crumbling in Russia and the dismemberment of the Soviet Union but it did have an effect on international relations. For starters, the relationship between between the US and Cuba was beginning to turn sour. Because Cuba was too heavily dependent on the US, Fidel Castro sought to change that by nationalizing American - owned estates and factories which provoked the US. America threatened to stop importing Cuban sugar which led Fidel to start trading with Russia. Eventually, the relationship between the US and Cuba worsened while Cuba's relationship with Russia grew stronger.
4. Unlike the relationship between the US and Russia and the relationship between the US and China, the relationship between Russia and China saw little to no improvement and continued to go downhill after 1956. The Chinese couldn’t agree with Russian policy of ‘peaceful coexistence’ in which communism could be achieved through nonviolence.
5. Detente was used between the US and Russia as a means to stop the nuclear arms race between the two countries. It was favored especially by the Russians since keeping up with the US was starting become a difficult task. Detente was used between the US and China when President Carter recognized the People’s Republic of China and ambassadors were exchanged. Detente was used between Russia and China Russian leader Mikhail Gorbachev proposed trade and economic cooperation agreements with china.
6. The US had intervened during the Vietnam wars. Countries considered to be part of Indo-china fought desperately for their freedom from France. From 1946-1954, Vietnam was still battling French rule and was under the leadership of the communist Ho Chi Minh. The Vietnamese had the upper hand due to their use of guerrilla tactics and support from the Vietnamese people. France was also still considerably weak from the world war and therefore it's forces weren't as effective. The US provided aid to the French as a means to prevent communism from spreading in south east Asia. The reason for America intervening isn't justifiable at all. The Americans were too blinded by their goal of preventing communist from spreading that they failed to see a country fighting for its freedom. America should know first hand what it's like to be ruled by a higher power and should have at least sympathized with Vietnam instead of working against it.
ReplyDelete7. Salvador Allende was overthrown for a number of reasons. He was mostly overthrown due to the failures of his policies. His land redistribution policy led to a decline in agriculture because many farmers had stopped sowing and slaughtered their cattle. The government was also short on funds which were meant to help out with social reforms. Workers went on strikes to demand higher wages and the production of copper decreased since the world price of copper fell to nearly 30% which caused a decline in government revenue. There were also some communists who were disappointed in Allende and felt that he should have approached Chile's problems the way Fidel Castro approached Cuba's.
8. Civil war broke out in South Vietnam when president Ngo Dinh Diem decided to not make election preparations for all of Vietnam. Diem gradually lost popularity seeing how he originated from a wealthy Roman Catholic family while the majority of the population were Buddhists who felt they were being discriminated against. There was supposed to be a land reform in which land that was occupied by rich landowners would be redistributed to the poor but such an event never happened in South Vietnam. As a result, many groups for formed to overthrow Diem which also lead to guerilla campaigns that involved attacking government officials and buildings.
9. Truman's policy of “limited warfare” with Korea set up the pattern for military conflict because Truman and MacArthur, the general in command for US forces in Korea, had different views on how to defeat communism in Asia. MacArthur believed that the best way to rid the world of communism was by invading Manchuria with nuclear weapons if they had to. Truman was strongly against this in every way, fearing that attacking Manchuria would lead to a larger war which the US did not want. This is why Truman decided it was best to just prevent communism from spreading into South Korea and why he removed MacArthur from his command much to the displeasement of the American people.
10. The Yalta Conference, 1945- A conference between President Roosevelt of the US, British Prime Minister Winston Churchill, and Soviet Leader Joseph Stalin in which the three leaders discussed the future of the World after the end of WW2. Its successfulness was short lived seeing how after the death of Roosevelt, Truman had become the next president and received little to no cooperation from the Soviet Union
The Iron Curtain Speech, 1946- A speech addressed by Winston Churchill at Westminster College in Missouri in which he compared Soviet policies to that of an “Iron Curtain”. The phrase was then adopted by the US and became a regular vocabulary word for the Cold War.
The Berlin Blockade and Airlift, 1948-1949- An effort made on the Soviet Union’s part to force the Western Allied powers to abandon their control over West Berlin.Tensions continued to rise between the Allies and the Soviets but a war did not break out yet.

1. Explain why war broke out in Korea in June 1950 and why the US became involved?
- The U.S.A had been involved in Korea overall since the time Korea defeated Japan in the 1945. Germany decided to control the South, meanwhile Russia decided to contro the North. Originally this division was to not to be permanent. Russia thought it would be a good idea to let Kim II Sung to be the leader of a Communist government. It is not clear on why North Korea Attacked the South in the first place. But it is believed that Russia was to encourage the North to invade the south so they could have greater control, but I think this was just an extreme way to expand Communism.
2. What were the outcomes and the effects of the war in Korea?
- The outcomes of the war in Korea were quite extreme. Millions of Koreans were either dead or were homeless due to destruction. America did not want the division between North and South to be permanent but unfortunately it became permanent after the war, Truman was happy that he was able to stand strong against Communism and not let South become a communist side like the north but Since America Republicans were not satisfied they complained on how they were not able to do that with China.
3. Explain why the Cold War came to an end, and show how this affected international relations.
- The cold war ended because of the fall of Communism in the East during the cold war when Gorbachev was the new leader of Russia. But on top of this the act that really ended the cold war was the Maastricht treaty which put a complete end to the Cold war between the USSR and the USA. After the end of the cold war many countries that were originally communists faced problems, one example would be in Georgia, the public in the north wanted to make the north side of Georgia their own separate states. The end of Communism in Russia also created a economy fall as well.
4. Compare and contrast the relationships between the following: a) The U.S.A. and Russia; the U.S.A. and China; and Russia and China.
ReplyDelete- Russia and USA: In the beginning their relationship between them were good until Russia demanded the United States to stop giving Afghanistan weapons since Russia were seeking to invade Afghanistan and Russia agreed to not to invade Afghanistan if the US stopped giving them weapons.
- USA and China: After the war on Korea, China and the USA hated each other but all of that changed in 1971 when China and America agreed to play table tennis, this was a start of a new relationship between countries. We can also refer to President Nixon visit to China in 1972 also when in 1978 when the Nationalists were withdrawn from China.
- China and Russia: Since both countries were communists it does not necessarily means that they will have a good relationship between each other. They both had different ways to govern a communist country. China more in a violent way meanwhile Russia was almost the opposite. Russia also took China’s territory making their relationship ever worst more than it already was. All of this changed when both countries agreed to make a 5 year trading plan.
5. How was "detente" used between the United States and Russia, the United States and China, and China and Russia?
- China wanted to be isolated from any country unlike Russia and USA where as the economy in Germany was falling so the Russians and Americans had to focus on Germany rather than China. The USSR also wanted to focus on reforming Eastern of Europe. Basically, US and USSR were too ‘busy’ to deal with China.
6. Provide an example of the United States intervening in other countries foreign relations.
Was it justifiable? Why or why not?
- We can use the Example of the United States being in control of the South in Korea during the cold and this is highly justifiable because it was a tactic to not let Russia make both, North and South to be a communist country.
7. Why was Salvador Allende overthrown?
- Salvador Allende was the first Marxist president of a South American country and that was Chile. in 1973 the Chilean military attacked the government to overthrow Allende and it worked out just fine to make Augusto Pinochet the new leader of Chile. It was planned for Allende to be overthrown since his beginning of being a leader.
8. What caused civil war in South Vietnam?
ReplyDelete- The causes of the Civil war in Vietnam was all because of the Cold war. The Americans had a thoery that Communism in Vietnam would spread just like other countires. America did not want that to happen. Before WW2 Vietnman was a part of the French empire, but during the war they were ran over by the Japanese but when the Japanese left, Vietnam was able to create their own goverment which was led by Ho Chin Minh. The war started because the French made the Viet Mihn to fight for the North and then soon enough, the Chinese Communists were helping the South fight against the North.
9. In what ways did Truman’s policy of “limited warfare” in Korea set the pattern of military conflict up to 1990?
- In the beggining of the Korean war, there was a strong disagreement between President Truman and general Douglas MacArthur. Truman believed that they should control the North Korea and help the South as well. They wanted to do that so they could destroy Communism in the North. But they decided not to get too deep involved in the North.
10. Assess the significance for the development of the Cold War between 1945 and 1950 of three of the following:
The Yalta Conference, 1945
- Yalta conference happened in February of 1945, it was a meeting between Stalin, Churchill and Roosevelt, a meeting between the 'Big Three' at that time during world war 2. At first Stalin agreed to let the Easy side of Europe to be an open election after the World War 2, this was a 'plus' for both America and Britain. The purpose of this meeting was that so after World War 2, Europe would be divided into 4 zones which would belong to France, Britain, America and Russia. Though this conference wasn't much a promise kept especially when I mentioned that Stalin agreed to make East side of Europe an open election after World War 2 and that never happened. Stalin wanted to be a revel and make majority of the countries in the East a communist country. This is a big role of helping the development of the Cold War.
The Iron Curtain speech, 1946
- The Iron Curtain speech of 1946 was delivered to the world in 1946 whereas nowadays historians argue this speech was the key development of a rivalry between countries (United States and Russia) and the commence of the Cold War. The speech it self made Stalin very angry towards both Truman and Churchill, Stalin assumed that Churchill was stating that countries who's primaey language is English that they're the priority. To make this short and simple to understand, the speech just created more tension between both sides.
The Truman Doctrine and the Marshall Plan, 1947
- Marshall Plan: When World War II was over, but Europe remained vulnerable for the expansion of the Communism as a form of exploitation. This is when America came in by creating a program to build up Europe again. Congress passed the Marshall Plan act, and they raised over 10 billion of dollars to help build a new Western Europe. This plan was both good for the Industrialization in Europe, trading, investments and introduction to American goods in Europe. This plan was created by George C. Marshal and he was the only general in America to receive a Nobel Peace prize for his underrated act.

Explain why war broke out in Korea in June 1950 and why the USA became involved?
-The war broke out because North Korea had invaded South Korea. They both had different views reason why there were always tension. The U.S had the same intentions just like South Korea, in which this is the reason why they help South Korea. This feud kept going until 1953.
What were the outcomes and the effects of the war in Korea?
-Well all was good for the South since they had help from the U.S. The South with the U.S help were able to become more stable by modernization and industrialisation. This was bad for the North because they were still lacking from the war, and really needed help. The North had a serious economic problem around the 1990s.
Explain why the Cold War came to an end, and show how this affected international relations.
-The cold war ended when Gorbachev started to go his own way and basically messed up Russia as a communist-party. If he would of stayed between the lines everything could of been fine.
Compare and contrast the relationships between the following: a) The U.S.A. and Russia; the U.S.A. and China; and Russia and China.
-Relations were settle with Russia and the U.S.It seemed there wouldn't be a good realtionship with Russia and China because China didn't believe in the ways
of Russia.
How was "detente" used between the United States and Russia, the United States and China, and China and Russia?
-The word "detente" was the tension that happened in the East and West. In China and Russia it was by Gorbachev when he proposes trade and better economy. With Russia and U.S it was hard because each one tried to one up each other. And the U.S and China realised when the President found out there were trade.
Provide an example of the United States intervening in another countries foreign relations. Was it justifiable? Why or why not?
ReplyDelete-The U.S always get into another wars but only to help. The United States seen that the French was struggling with supplies because they were no match, meaning power. So the U.S supplied with money and some from military help. But even so they needed more help to be stable and to compete with other nations.
Why was Salvador Allende overthrown?
-Salvador Allende were overthrown because he didn't follow the rule to be unconstitutional. It says that Allende ruled over it and wanted to be overthrown by force.
What caused civil war in South Vietnam?
-The cause of the South Vietnam was the U.S tried to stop the communism from spreading but it didn't go as plan. The president didn't want to put action for a new election which was bad, so what the U.S wanted to do was build the military in South Vietnam.
In what ways did Truman’s policy of “limited warfare” in Korea set the pattern of military conflict up to 1990?
-The limited war made it hard for nations or people with little resources. This would mess up the flow of military conflict. They had to use whatever was there like human resources and natural technology.
Assess the significance for the development of the Cold War between 1945 and 1950 of three of the following:
The Yalta Conference, 1945:was a meeting of British prime Minister Winston, Soviet Leader Stalin and president Roosevelt as the World War 2 was winding down.
The Iron Curtain speech, 1946
The Truman Doctrine and the Marshall Plan, 1947
The expulsion of Yugoslavia from the Soviet block, 1948
The Berlin Blockade and Airlift, 1948-1949-an attempt to limit the ability of the French,Great Britain and the U.S to travel to different sectors.
The formation of NATO, 1949. - This was with European and the U.S trying to strengthen up the ties between the two. This was all after World War 2.

1. War broke out in Korea in 1950 because North Korea had been controlled by communism and brought communism into their government while in South Korea it was democracy. Neither north nor South Korea had reached an agreement about the government so it was split and the north attacked the south to try and spread communism. The USA became involved because Truman saw the attack as one of Stalin’s attempts to spread world communism and also many American citizens saw the attack similar to Hitler’s policies.
2. The war left Korea as a disaster and about four million Korean soldiers and citizens had been killed and about five million people were left homeless. Korea remained separate because of china’s military being able to fight back and keep communism in North Korea. The UN exerted its authority and reversed an act of aggression. The relationship between American and China got worse and there was no way they could reach agreements.
3. The cold war had come to an end because of the fall of communism. The smaller states wanted their independence and Russia’s economy became weaker because of the new policies. The soviet lost control over the East Germany and started to lose control. The whole reason the civil war happened was because of the dispute between democracy and communism, so since democracy took over and communism fell apart the war had come to an end because communist countries could no longer fight back. Once the cold war was over the USSR and its allies were no longer seen as enemies
4. Russia and China both are neighbors since they both border each other. The two countries ended relations with each other and became neutral when they signed the treaty of good neighborliness and friendly cooperation. The Chinese and the USA relations are also known as sino-american relations and the relationship between them both is that they have like a trading relationship. Both countries are in the top when it comes to economy wise you can say that they help each other out since they trade a lot. Russia and the USA keep a diplomatic relationship between each other and both try to fight of terrorist threats from other countries.
5. Detente was used between the US and Russia because it limited the use of nuclear weapons and it also led to the SALT I treaty. Between the US and China they created the ping pong diplomacy and china was scared about their isolation and wanted to improve relations. Détente between Russia and China was nothing big just a couple territorial problems were resolved but there relationship really didn’t get any better.
6. I think that the United States intervention in Korea was justifiable because it was the right thing to do. At the time Stalin wanted to spread communism throughout the world and Russia was the enemy so the United States intervened as a way of protection to prevent any future threats and also South Korea didn’t want communism which helped them out.
ReplyDelete7. Salvador Allende was overthrown because he wasn’t doing well as a leader and the economy worsened. Land redistribution cause a decrease in agriculture production, private investors became frightened and the government became short of funds to bring out social reforms. The wages were very low, copper nationalization fell to about 30 percent many countries were nervous for Chile since it was doing so bad.
8. The civil war in South Vietnam happened in the first place because President Ngo Dinh Diem refused to make preparations for elections for all of Vietnam. Land had been taken away from the wealthy and poor people in all of Vietnam expect for South Vietnam. There were many guerilla campaigns because of the national liberation front which separated Vietnam. Ngo was overthrown and murdered, the situation got worse and many people were still protesting.
9. Truman’s policy of limited warfare in Korea set the pattern of military conflict because there were still many disagreements between north and South Korea. The United States wasn’t looking for a total victory they were just protecting South Korea from communism which is why the war between the two kept going.
10. The Yalta conference of 1945 was between the Stalin, Roosevelt, and Churchill. The whole point of this conference was to come up plans for a post war world and also to talk about Germany’s surrender.
The iron curtain speech was present by Churchill and the purpose of it was to get the United States and Great Britain for a closer relationship.
The NATO was from by some western countries including the US and the purpose of it was to strengthen the relationship with each other and protect each other from future attacks.

1. Explain why war broke out in Korea in June 1950 and why the USA became involved?
War broke out in Korea in June 1950 because of North Korea’s attack on South Korea. There were about 75,000 North Korean soldiers that partook in the attack. The reason why the U.S. intervened in the situation was because they had close ties with South Korea. I thought that it was interesting that this attack was the first military action in the Cold War.
2. What were the outcomes and the effects of the war in Korea?
America tried to come to an agreement with the North Koreans because they feared that the war would escalate and other countries like Russia and China would get involved. People thought that World War III could have happened during this time. The Korean War ended in July 1953. There were an estimated 40,000 Americans that died in action in Korea and about 100,000 Americans injured. About 5 million soldiers and civilians died and to this day the Korean Peninsula remains divided.
3. Explain why the Cold War came to an end, and show how this affected international relations.
The Cold War came to an end because of all the agreements that were going on, like the signing of the Maastricht Treaty and also because of the leadership of Mikhail Gorbachev. Gorbachev set out to end the Cold War when he gained leadership and he was able to do just that. The relationship between Russia and America worsened when Russia helped out North Korea in invading South Korea.
4. Compare and contrast the relationships between the following: a) The U.S.A. and Russia; the U.S.A. and China; and Russia and China.
The relationship between between the U.S. and Russia was terrible. Both countries were not on the same page with each other. For example, Russia was helping North Korea invade South Korea, while the U.S. was helping South Korea against the attacks from North Korea and Russia. The U.S. and China were also not on the same page because China was a communist nation and the U.S. was not. The positive thing in their relationship was that the U.S. wanted to get rid of communism in China. Ever since the Korean War the U.S. and China had a strained relationship. The relationship between Russia and China got worse after 1956. The countries signed a treaty of mutual resistance and friendship in 1950 but that did not work out. The treaty was not effective due to China not agreeing with Nikita Khrushchev’s policies.
5. How was "detente" used between the United States and Russia, the United States and China, and China and Russia?
Detente was used between the U.S. and Russia when a joint statement was released by Mikhail Gorbachev and Ronald Reagan. The joint statement said ‘nuclear war cannot be won and must never be fought.’ A super important event also happened which was Gorbachev and Reagan signing the Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces Treaty. Detente with the U.S. and Russia came about when President Jimmy Carter presented China with recognition in 1979. Throughout the 1980s good relations were kept between the U.S. and China. When Gorbachev visited Beijing in May 1989, a reconciliation took place which bettered the relationship between Russia and China.
6. Provide an example of the United States intervening in another countries foreign relations. Was it justifiable? Why or why not?
ReplyDeleteOne example of the U.S. intervening in another country’s foreign relations was when they wanted to help out South Korea against North Korean and Russian attacks. I would say that it was justifiable because the U.S. was allies with South Korea and wanted to help the country out and prevent it from coming under Russian rule.
7. Why was Salvador Allende overthrown?
Salvador Allende was overthrown because his policies were not successful and were creating problems. Allende wanted to redistribute land which lead to a fall in agriculture, strikes for higher wages occurred, the U.S. was not in agreement with Allende’s policies and wanted to weaken Chile’s economy.
8. What caused civil war in South Vietnam?
The creation of the civil war in South Vietnam was caused by President Ngo Dinh Diem when he decided not to make preparations for the elections for the whole of Vietnam. The U.S. was fearful that South Vietnam would become a communist nation if they angered President Diem so they followed his regime.
9. In what ways did Truman’s policy of “limited warfare” in Korea set the pattern of military conflict up to 1990?
Truma decided that the West should help South Korea out so he sent American troops to South Korea even if they were in Japan at the moment. This led to military conflict because the U.S. and Russia were enemies and Russia was helping out North Korea. All of this led o conflict.
10. Assess the significance for the development of the Cold War between 1945 and 1950 of three of the following:
The Truman Doctrine states the U.S. must assist free people in order for them to work out their destiny. This reminds of the U.S. wanting to help out South Korea so that they would not be turned into a communist country. Stalin was against the Marshall Plan because he did not agree with the U.S.’s post-war aims.
The North Atlantic Treaty Organization was comprised of America and European countries. The countries agreed that if either of them are attacked then they are all attacked as one which shows the bond and relationship between the nations. This was significant because it insured the protection of the involved nations during the events of the Cold War like when the U.S. got involved with South Korea.
Churchill’s Iron Curtain speech states how much influence from the Soviet Union is in different countries. Since Soviet influence was in more than one country, it shows just how powerful the USSR is. This is important because it sets the tone for the Cold War due to the fact that the USSR held a negative influence over nations which added to the development of the Cold War.

The Spread of Communism outside of Europe and its effects on International Relations
1. After WWII, there was a division between Korea; there was now a North Korea that took the roll of Communism and South Korea who took the form of a democracy. Because of this division in June 1950, North Korea invited South Korea for this change. The United Nations was holding back as the Intel that was given only indicated it as a civil war but the United States forced them to reconsider this pull back and went In with force to protect South Korea. North Korea was being assisted by China and the Soviet Union. The United States saw this in no boundary of being neutral and asked for assistance. Because of the United States breviary, 20+ countries allied with the United States to defend South Korea.
2. The Outcomes where more impacting in North Korea than South Korea because now North Korea was in the world’s eyes as “a devils territory”; especially when allying with China and the Soviet Union. Because of this, many countries assisted South Korea as this seemed to be unfair. The United Nations gave full on support by the United States to assist this country no matter what went on. This was a contribution to the Cold War and played a huge role through as the United States while dealing with North Korea had its eyes on the Soviet Union as there wouldn’t be any doubt that the Soviet would have a plan behind on assisting this assault on South Korea.
3. The End of The Cold War consisted of many events that made the war. Communism was starting to have a strong dominance in Europe and after the division of Germany; were there was a Democratic western Germany and a Eastern Germany, Eastern Germany was taking under the Influence of Communism. In order to keep these new countries separated, The Berlin Wall was built. When Communism began to have issues with keeping a connection with the Soviet Union government, each nation that was under Communism began to crumble. One By one leading to the fall of the Berlin Wall. Even if this was happening, a new era of communism was rising in Eastern Asia (Korea and China) and in the western Caribbean (Cuba). This was a new time to instead of wondering what went wrong with the soviet, for these countries to modernize their territory through Communism which till today are still standing as Communism countries because of the great impact.
4. The United States for many years has tried to have many allies and trade partners but when it comes to Russia and China, there’s a difference in how the United States has worked with them. The United States’ relationship with Russia is fairly a diplomatic relationship. As we know, Russia was part of the Soviet Union so having that background does make it a bit difficult to have these countries be full on Allies. They do come together as one in the United Nations as of today, they both hold the title of being great powers in the world. The United States’ relationship with China is more of a trade relationship as most of the things imported to the United States is from China. Till today, The United States holds a great dept to China and will hold it since the amount is estimated in the trillions and increasing. The relationship with China and Russia is really unheard of. Since China holds a communism view still and Putin had changed Russia into a Police state and away from communism. This does not mean that they have not had any form of agreement but this is true when there really is not a active relationship.
5. The Détente era was a mid-cold war era that between the United States and the Soviet Union which allowed both of the countries to come down to a form of agreement between each other, especially after the Cuban Missel crisis. This era was a time that treaties where sign to cease fire between the nations and something called the “red phone” implemented in both Moscow and Washington D.C so that if anything came up, both leaders could talk and settle things. Even if these treaties where sign, the United States did not stop producing weapons as there was still no trust to be found between the United States and the Soviet Union. The Détente era between the United States and China was a bit rocky as the United States had to find a way to put China down especially after the Korean war of 1950. This meant that the trading between the countries was way to settle things and keep peace. Although some historians say that the United States had so much tension built upon them, there was more peace between the United States and Russia than Russia and China. Even if both of these countries did uphold the face of communism, Communism in Russia from the Soviet Union had a world bad reputation so being led on by china was a sort of blame and a bit of tension; nothing critical but something historians consider.
ReplyDelete6. Since 1932, Chile was under a strong democracy and had plans to build the great cities to aim to become a great power in South America. The United States intervened with their plans and offered “help” but this meant that they had certain powers and implementations that they could have had. Chile wanted to spread their relations as their own doing and credit but having the United States help (a powerful nation) wasn’t going to mean that they were going to receive any credit. This offended the deputies of Chile and caused an outbreak of anger that led to Salvador Allende’s dictatorship; side tracking Chile’s plan as this man did worse than what the government was like under Democracy. I could pardon the United States but I believe that they just wanted to have their name inside South America to be a known country. If the United States could have assisted Chile after they had their relations then I could justify it but I think that it was very unnecessary for the United States to try to intervene with what Chile was doing even if it were good intentions or beneficial ones (bad)
7. Since the early 30’s Chile was undergoing a democratic alliance with the United States and wanted to “politically intervene” with anything that Chile needed but deputies did not agree with this and as one did not agree, so did the other. This brought a governmental country and a unbalance leading to Chile going from Democracy to Dictatorship. Salvador Allende was one of those diplomats who opposed this United States alliance with Chile and took control. His reform brought a temporary smile to Chileans as they thought this was the right way to have a government set and not have any countries intervene with what they were planning on doing. People begin to see that Salvador’s plans were not good for the country as everything was starting to be censored, poverty was on the rise and these were negative aspects that brought an upraise of rebels against this dictatorship along the CIA holding propaganda against Allende’s rule.
8. The South Vietnam Civil war broke out as a “because of “the Cold War “then” the Vietnam civil war came. This war came from the inner ideas of the United States as they had a very strong defense and believe that communism was just not right and that this ideology was spreading through Asia. The United states could not afford another big war at this point against communism but they did had South Vietnam and some Americans fight along with them against the USSR and china troops including the USSR giving weapons to North Vietnam to fight for them.
9. Truman’s policy of “limited warfare” was a détente for both the United States and the Soviet Union; this would limit any conflict and try to find its way to peace. This Just enraged North Korea because they wanted full on support from the Soviet Union. This caused more conflict as this was what moved North Korea to move in South Korea with China. Truman’s policy was just limiting power for other nations but the United States was still producing weapons which were the ones who defended South Korea in the long run. The Soviet later joined along with N. Korea and China against the United States and allies, events leading to the Cold War.
ReplyDelete10. (The Yalta conference) was a meeting between the United States president F.D Roosevelt, Joseph Stalin of the Soviet Union and Prime Minister of United Kingdom Winston Churchill. The reason why this meeting was made was to implement the necessary steps that were going to be taken into consideration after the war. I believe that this event has a great significance to the development of the Cold War because Stalin’s Soviet wanted to have some form of expansion and even if so, already winning the war gave them this state of mind that it was fine to take over land. Even if this was not acted at the moment, it was important to know that the Cold War was coming up and the Soviet was ready to fight for what they believed was right. (The Berlin Blockade and Airlift) was a great component of pre Cold war as this was a sign of the Soviet Union, telling the United States, France and the United Kingdom to abandon their place in Western Germany as they wanted to take full position of this country. If we look at the Yalta conference, there was already this form of movement to take over land and bring a strong European up hold of countries under communism and Germany (All of Germany) was the soviets goal to have; which we know that after the Berlin Wall fell, they failed to complete this task. In 1949, The United States, Canada and several other western States came together to form the NATO (North Atlantic Treaty Organization) to gather information of the Soviet Union. This information was well needed as there needed to be some form of stop to the plans of the Soviet Union and having more than the United States act on this meant that it was easier to get this information without the Soviet Union concentrating their focus only on the United States.

The Cold War ended because the NATO countries signed a treaty with te Warsaw pact. The treaty stated that they would stop using weapons for "self-defense". When the Cold War ended Gorbachev took a lot o credit for that. Also the war ended that was a big step for many nations.
4.Compare and contrast the relationships between the following: a) The U.S.A. and Russia; the U.S.A. and China; and Russia and China.
The United states and Russia was located on the opposite sides of the axises. Russia and the United states helped other countries with their problems. The Chinese-us was a relationship between the United states and China. Both countries have a very good potential to be world leaders.
5.
How was "detente" used between the United States and Russia, the United States and China, and China and Russia?
The United states seen that there was a way of living
With communism and that was "detente". China was worried that the U.S was trying to take Vietnam because they attacked North Korea. China and Russia used detente as a way of not seeing the same views and ideological matters.
1. Explain why war broke out in Korea in June 1950 and why the USA became involved?
ReplyDeleteWar broke out in Korea in June 1950. There were many theories as to why it broke out. Some of the theories were: it was Kim Il Sung's, leader of North Korea, idea and that he was encouraged by Dean Acheson, the secretary of America, in 1950. Another theory is that Kim was encouraged by the Chinese government to invade South Korea. Another is that the Communist in North Korea claimed that the South Koreans started tension with them first so the North Koreans were just getting pay back. One of the most common reasons is that it was Kim's idea, he did it to unify the peninsula, both China and USSR agreed to supply North Korea with materials. However, both USSR and China made it clear that they was not going to be directly involved. The reasons why the USA got involved was because: President Truman believed that Stalin, leader of Russia, we behind this whole plan and that all Stalin wanted to do was to spread communism faster. Another reason is because President Truman did not want another incident like the League of Nations to happen again so he thought it was a priority to support Doherty United Nations Organization. One last reason why the USA became involved was because Joseph McCarthy, American Republic senator, stated that "the state department was infested with communists who were, in effect, working for the USSR." President Truman wanted to prove McCarthy wrong.
2. What were the outcomes and the effects of the war in Korea?
The outcomes and the effects of the war in Korea were: In Korea, 4,000,000 Koreans died and 5,000,000 Koreans were homeless. Also the division in Korea seemed permanent. Another outcome/effect is that President Truman was happy that he contained the communism. However, American Republicans criticized him for not containing communism in China. Another outcome/effect is that the military performance in China was impressive. China stopped the unification of Korea. One of the last outcomes/effects was that the relationships America had with China and Russia were permanently ruined.
3.Explain why the Cold War came to an end, and show how this affected international relations.
The reasons why the Cold War Ended in the early 1990s was because of the Maastricht Treaty. The Maastricht Treaty was what finalize the whole tension between the USSR and the USA. The treaty ended the Cold War and set the government to be a democracy. Although, there were many things that led to the end of the Cold War, further explained in question one, the Maastricht Treaty was what really ended the Cold War.
The international relations were affected because of the Cold War. One of the effects was that Nationalism re-emerge in some of the state's that were in the USSR. For example, Armenia and Azerbaijan broke out into a war because they were fight over territory. Anther example is in Georgia the people in the north was fighting because they wanted their own separate state from the rest of Georgia. Another effects was the former states from the USSR were in an economic collapse. They had a large number of poverty. Another effect was that the poles feared that since Germany was going to be united, Germany might take back the territory given to Poland by Germany after the Second World War. This cause the poles to over protect the river of Oder and Neisse and if needed fight for it.
4. Compare and contrast the relationships between the following: a) The U.S.A. and Russia; the U.S.A. and China; and Russia and China.
ReplyDeleteTHE USSR AND THE USA
At first the relationship between the USSR and the USA were good. In 1963, the hotline telephone link was improved and there was an agreement to use nuclear test underground only. Another positive thing was that the arms force slowed down, the USA exported wheat to Russia and the USSR, Canada, and the European states agreed to accept the European frontiers. However, USA became suspensions when they noticed that Russia had 150 Russian SS-20 missiles. This caused the USA to get missiles themselves. It turns out that the missiles Russia got was to invade Afghanistan. Long story short, the USSR notice that it would be impossible to " subdue the ferocious Islamic guerrillas. " The USSR agreed to stop the invasion if the USA stopped sending military weapons to Afghanistan. This relationship ended with a INF peace treaty in 1988.
THE USA AND CHINA
Since the Korean war, China and the USA were hostile to each other. However, in 1971 their relationship started to brighten up. China invited the American table-tennis (ping pong) team to china. This was a start to a new beginning. The USA let China into the UN and president Nixon visited China in February 1972. The USA and China's relationship improved in 1978 when president Carter withdraw Nationalist in China. The USA and China settled their differences and had a good relationship.
THE USSR AND CHINA
China a the USSR did not have a good relationship. China accused Russia of revisionism. Since both were Communist states, China believed in order to achieve communism was by a violent revolution and Russia thought the opposite. The new leader of Russia, Khrushchev, went against Lenin, the leader leader of Russia in 1917. China believed this was completely wrong of them. Another reason why China did not have a good relationship with Russia was because Russia took some territory from China, north of Vladivostok also Sinkiang. China wants it back. However, China and Russia tried to improve their relationship Russia created a Five year agreement on trading with each other and on a economic co-operation in 1985.
5. How was "detente" used between the United States and Russia, the United States and China, and China and Russia?
The USSR wanted to focus on improving Eastern Germany because their government was suffering, the Americans was not happy with all the little success with communism so they wanted to be isolated, China wanted nothing to do with both Russia and the USA so they just wanted to be isolated, and finally if a nuclear war broke out it would hit Western Europe first so the USSR asked the Eastern Europe to protect them if they could help them if a nuclear war broke out, this policy was called Ostpolitik.
6. Provide an example of the United States intervening in other countries foreign relations. Was it justifiable? Why or why not?
The USA was interested in Africa in the late 1950s when there was the beginning of decolonization and the state's started to become independent. America ask Africa states states to become in depended asap because they believed that if they didn't it was encourage communism. If we look at this situation from a person who had no knowledge about the communism we could say that this was non justifiable because from the looks of it we can see that America is just trying to encourage other states to become independent so that they can benefit and not have any more countries dragged into communism.
7. Why was Salvador Allende overthrown?
ReplyDeleteSalvador Allende was overthrown because the land redistribution created agricultural production. The government was short of funds. The copper nationalization was very disappointing. There were strikes for people to get higher wages. The price of copper went down by 30%. The citizens didn't like the way Allende ran things. They wanted a Castro - style approach. A group was formed, movement of the revolutionary left. This group embarrassed the non violent movement. The USA did not like Allende's policy. They tried to undermine chile's economy. These were some of the reasons why Allende was overthrown.
8.What caused civil war in South Vietnam?
The reasons for why the civil war in South Vietnam was created was because President Eisenhower and Truman both worried that if one country falls for communism then the next one next to it will fall for it done so on and so forth. Another reason why the civil war happened in South Vietnam was be Ngo was accused of running Vietnam like an American would. The government lost many of its supporters. There was a group called the National Liberation front. This group wanted a democracy government. The NLF was so determined to get what they wanted that they started attacking Government officials and their buildings.
9.In what ways did Truman’s policy of “limited warfare” in Korea set the pattern of military conflict up to 1990?
The reason why Truman's policy of "limited warfare" in Korea set the pattern of military conflict up to 1990 was because Truman and MacArthur had two different beliefs on how to abolish communism. MacArthur believed that the only way to abolish communism was by invading Manchuria. Truman believed that in order to abolish communism was by just trying to stop it from spreading everywhere. Both had different views and
led to conflict between the two.
10.Assess the significance for the development of the Cold War between 1945 and 1950 of three of the following:The Yalta Conference, 1945 The Iron Curtain speech, 1946 The Truman Doctrine and the Marshall Plan, 1947 The expulsion of Yugoslavia from the Soviet block, 1948 The Berlin Blockade and Airlift, 1948-1949 The formation of NATO, 1949.
THE IRON CURTAIN SPEECH
British prime minister Churchill gave a speech on March 5, 1946 at Westminster college in Missouri. In this speech Churchill questions what Stalin will do next. Churchill understands that Stalin is just trying to protect Russia. However, it was Churchill duty to protect the others around him. So he told others of Stalin's plans. The Russian dominated polish government was planning to attack Germany. They was planning to do this so they can get more control. In response to this letter Stalin believed that Churchill's letter was racist and he felt that he was trying to start a war with Russia.
THE BERLIN BLOCKADE
People in Berlin had to get their food from Western Germany. The people from Western Germany had pathways to travel to Berlin to transport food. Berlin was closer to the territory of the east Germany. So Stalin decided to cut all connections with Berlin and western Germany. This caused a lot of tension because Eastern Germany went against western Germany and blocked all connections. However, western Germany soon found a way to get food to the people in Berlin. They went by airplane. After Stalin noticed he failed he stopped the people blockade.
THE FORMATION OF NATO
The North Atlantic Treaty Organization was formed in April 1949. The countries involved were USA, Canada, Denmark, Ice land, Portugal, Norway, and Italy. The reason for this military group was so that the western Germany could attack the esters Germany if they ever try something like the Berlin Blockade again. The USSR was so scared of the NATO. Which was why they came up with their their own military group called the Warsaw Pact.

6.Provide an example of the United States intervening in another countries foreign relations. Was it justifiable? Why or why not?
ReplyDeleteThe United states intervened on the war of Vietnam. What they did was justifiable because the French was struggling so they help them. Vietnam had many supporters and help and the French did not has as much help.
7.why was Salvador Allende overthrown?
Salvador Allende was overthrown because he denounced himself from rule to be unconstitutional. Allende wanted to take more land and with more land you will need more money for the people. Also the United states did not agree with all this so they tried to take him from power.
8. What caused the civil war in south Vietnam?
The cause of the civil war in south Vietnam was the United states tried to stop communism and that was not happening because communism was very powerful. Also the president of Vietnam did not want to rebuild the country for the election.
9. In what ways did Truman's policy of " limited warfare" in Korea set the pattern of military conflict up to 1990?
Truman policy on limited warfare in Korea was bad because north and South Korea. The United states was trying to protect South Korea from communism and North Korea would not stop trying.
10. Assess the significance for the development of the Cold War between 1945 and 1950 of three of the following?
The NATO was created to strengthen the relationship between nations and help nations protect each other from attacks. Also the United states and many other nations created this act.
Churchill's iron curtain speech talks about the USSR and how they are very powerful and have a very big influence on other nations. This is when they started acting towards the Cold War.
The Yalta conference of 1945 was a conference between Stalin,Roosevelt, and churchill's to try and make plans to make nations better and to keep the peace. Also it was to talk about the post war.

ReplyDelete1. Explain why war broke out in Korea in June 1950 and why the USA became involved?
War broke out in Korea when North Korea invaded South Korea, the reasons behind this remain disputed although the link of North Korea with Russia and China suggests either of them may have advised Kim Il Sung to do so. The USA became involved because Truman feared a Communist takeover of Korea, and was especially suspicious of Russian meddling in the affair. Another reason the USA intervened was that they aimed not to make the same mistake they did when the League of Nations existed: not being active.
2. What were the outcomes and the effects of the war in Korea?
The war, despite originally aiming to unite Korea once and for all, did the opposite. North and South Korea became even more divided, and tension between both nations remains to this date. This crisis was the first great test of the United Nations for peacekeeping, and helped them prove themselves and their capability to contain conflict.
3. Explain why the Cold War came to an end, and show how this affected international relations.
The Cold War came to an end thanks to two factors: Mikhail Gorbachev’s leadership, and the declining economy of the USSR. Gorbachev aimed to liberalize the USSR, instating his Perestroika and Glasnost policies to mend relationships with the West and end the Iron Curtain era. Gorbachev was aware of the dire economical status of the Soviet Union, and was even willing to let other states break off from the Soviet Union to end the stagnation. International relations between East and West improved after the fall of the Soviet Union, the Iron Curtain was no longer there, and trade/diplomacy between both could occur again now that Stalinism was gone.
4. Compare and contrast the relationships between the following: a) The U.S.A. and Russia; the U.S.A. and China; and Russia and China.
a) Relationships between the USA and Russia were worsening each day during Stalin’s years. However, at the very beginning of their alliance, they were friendly to each other. A chain of suspicion and distrust coming from both sides (arguably originating with Stalin) polarized the USA and Russia. The last leader of the USSR, Mikhail Gorbachev, however aimed to end these “two camps” (East vs. West).
b) Like Russia, the USA and China originally had high tensions stemming from the basic East v. West conflict. Especially after the Korean War, the USA and China had become more enemies rather than allies. However, this took a strange turn when China invited an American table tennis (ping pong) team to China. Afterwards, tensions between both began to relax; China was allowed to become part of the UN, Nixon visited China in person, and eventually the USA recognized the People’s Republic of China as a state.
c) Unlike the previous cases, relationships between China and Russia originally were stable, until Khrushchev’s rule. Khrushchev’s contrasting ideas regarding Communism and his challenging of Lenin’s ideals drove the two apart greatly. Moreover, the USSR took pieces of land which were previously Chinese, which China would later want back.
5. How was "detente" used between the United States and Russia, the United States and China, and China and Russia?
ReplyDeleteDetente between the USA and China was used after 1971, when China took the first step towards bettering relationships with the USA, beginning with the invitation of a USA table tennis team to China. Afterwards, tensions began to ease, culminating with the recognition of the People’s Republic of China as a sovereign state. Between the USA and Russia, Russia sought to end tensions between them and the USA because Russia could no longer keep up the arms and economic race with the USA, and something had to be done to alleviate this problem. China and Russia’s détente began thanks to Gorbachev’s economic aid plans, which ended in a reconciliation in 1989 between both countries.
6. Provide an example of the United States intervening in another country’s foreign relations. Was it justifiable? Why or why not?
American intervention in Vietnam was completely unjustified, fueled by the blind quest of preventing the spread of “evil Communism”. The war was between the Vietnamese and the French, who were fighting to keep Vietnam as a French colony. The conflict did not concern the USA at all.
7. Why was Salvador Allende overthrown?
Basically, Allende was overthrown because his implementation of Communism was greatly ineffective, unlike Fidel Castro’s at the time. His budget was severely limited, his focus on Copper took a turn for the worse with the decline of the value of Copper, USA support was lost thanks to him identifying as a Marxist (Red Scare), poverty was extremely widespread, and industrial progress became stagnant as investors backed out.
8. What caused civil war in South Vietnam?
There is an arguable religious cause, given how the vast majority of Vietnam’s population was Buddhist and the unpopular Ngo Dinh Diem was Catholic. He removed elections, which in turn made the population felt as if he was restricting their voice and vote based around religious preference. Diem’s promises of land reform came unfulfilled, and the people revolted.
9. In what ways did Truman’s policy of “limited warfare” in Korea set the pattern of military conflict up to 1990?
10. Assess the significance for the development of the Cold War between 1945 and 1950 ofthree of the following:
o The Yalta Conference, 1945
o The Iron Curtain speech, 1946
o The Truman Doctrine and the Marshall Plan, 1947
o The expulsion of Yugoslavia from the Soviet block, 1948
o The Berlin Blockade and Airlift, 1948-1949

The Spread of Communism outside Europe and its effects on international relations.
1.Explain why war broke out in Korea in June 1950 and why the US became involved?
-The war broke out in Korea because the communist North Korea had invaded South Korea. Its still being said that it was a bit ambiguous on why the North Koreans invaded the South Koreans. Based upon research,we can conclude that it was because of the South Koreans war had happen. I say this because the communist claimed that they had troops from the “bandit traitor” crossing the “38th parallel”.That was just one assumption, the most common reason why the war had started was because of the idea that Kim II Sung had of unifying the peninsula which caused tension. The U.S. got involved because they wanted to help out South Korea. Also they saw that Stalin was really trying to enforce communism severely, so in that case they deliberately took it as a challenge to try and stop him.
2.What were the outcomes and the effects of the war in Korea?
-The outcomes and effects that war had on Korea was very horrible. The country was an absolute disaster. One of the outcome were that there was a division among both of the states. Each of them over time still was dubious of each other. Not only that but, there were always consistent “ceasefire violations” that occurred. Effects in general, was that more than 4 million people had no homes or a place to stay. Not only people but soldiers who fought in the war ended up not having homes to stay in due to the disaster of the war.
3.Explain why the Cold War came to an end, and show how this affected international relations.
-The cold war came to an end when communism was collapsing. The USSR and the west were not being seen as adversaries anymore. There were actually a treaty that was being signed to create and state that peace was made and no weapons was going to be used against them. Gorbachev had a lot of credit being brought towards him because he was drawing this war to an end. This brought problems in the international relations because now that communism was over. Nationalism was being suppressed by it and for example in Czechoslovakia some of the nationalist wanted to separate the state and make Slovakia its own state. Majority of these disputes were settled peacefully, but a war broke out because of territory.
4.Compare and contrast the relationships between the following: a) The U.S.A. and Russia; the U.S.A. and China; and Russia and China.
-USA and Russia relationship was making progression. The U.S had began exporting wheat to the russians and keeping up with each other. For example they both made an agreement to have certain “ Nuclear tests” but it had to be underground. These countries had both proven to be in a state of progression with each other when they accepted certain policies that compromised their own opinions. US and China relationship was very bad. They were so hostile towards each other when war had broken out in Korea. They still remained hostile to each other because the U.S “backed Chiang Kai-shek and the Nationalist in Taiwan”. It was constant back and forth tennis playing of hate. The US had veto some of the proposal of the chinese entries of the UN. As for the relationship between Russia and China they had a steady mutual relationship just like US and Russia did in the beginning but likewise it stayed because they had a lot of compromises done. They both were communist states so they had the same beliefs to certain extents so agreeing with each other was not hard, despite the relationship with China and the U.S they had agreements on things.
1.How was "detente" used between the United States and Russia, the United States and China, and China and Russia?
•Detente is the state of being permanently relaxed with all of tensions. Between the U.S and Russia detente was used when the arms race was slowed down and the treaty of peace was signed. Also the determination of newly leader of the soviet lead towards detente. For the U.S and China detente was used when Carter gave an actual formal acknowledgement of China’s republic. Then good relations had stayed because detente continued to stay. In China and Russia detente was used when the revising of “Marx and Lenin to suit their own needs”.
2.Provide an example of the United States intervening in other countries foreign relations. Was it justifiable? Why or why not?
•Example of the U.S intervening with another country foreign relations is during the Vietnam War. It was not justifiable because they failed to prohibit the spread of communism in South-east of Asia. They failed miserably, because instead of responding to the bombing that was happening during the war they responded by only evacuating the cities and certains factories that was outside of the city. This caused the communism to spread among southeast of Asia.
3.Why was Salvador Allende overthrown?
-Salvador Allende was overthrown because he got criticized a lot by the government until it lead into big problems. For example the “Land redistribution” had a huge effect on the “agricultural production” certain farmers land that was taken away from them would then have to slaughter their own cattles which is not fair. This was kind of similar to the Russian Kulaks while collectivism was happening. Not only that but some of the private investors were sometimes scared of investing money so they just did not give money anymore and were scared away. The government had fallen short under funds because they had many “social reforms” to provide for. Also the U.S did not approve of Allende policies not one bit ,so in that case the U.S tried their best to subvert Chiles economy. All of those negative leadership he had and policies is what led him to be overthrown.
4.What caused civil war in South Vietnam?
•The causation of the civil war in South Vietnam were due to conflicts that people had for fighting for independence from france. Not only that but the intervening of the U.S cause the war also. The vietnamese were fighting for “independence from france” and the “Indo-China” was being occupied by the japanese when war was happening. This war was led by a communist “Ho Chi Minh” he had spent so years in russia learning and collecting ideas on how to rule. He led his people for independence and they fought with all of the resources they had. The U.S just made things worse because they decided to have an increase of their soldiers in South Vietnam and that just took up space.

The Spread of Communism Outside Europe and Its Effects on International Relations
1.The USA was involved in Korea even before the Korean War cease to exist. The USA was involved with Korea ever since the Cold War, when Russia and it divided Korea into two parts North Korea and the South. The South sided with The United States and the North with Russia just as the USA and Russia were rivals they to became rivals. While there isn’t really a real reason why North Korea decided to invaded the south researchers say that North Korea’s leader Kim ll Sung just decided to invaded during 1950. It was said that Sung might had been influence by the Chinese communist government that were invading Taiwan during that time and also the attack on Chiang Kai-shek. In the communist perspective(the North) the South started the war when a bandit Syngman Rhee crossed over the border that divided the two called the 38th parallel. this time around the USA got involved because they believed that Russia was behind the attack and it was their attempt to spread communism.
2.The war destroyed Korea four million people had been murdered in it. five million people were left homeless. Korea never became one to this day the two conflicting states still exist. Korea had permanently remained separated. Although the USA was successful and during the war,The republicans in the US felt that the USA missed the chance to end communism in China.
3.The Cold war ended due to the collapsing of the Soviet Union. It affected the relationships between the US and other communist countries like Cuba. It use to be on good terms with the United states supplying with sugar, tobacco, textiles, iron and other resources. Cuba’s leader Fidel Castro went and ruined Cuba’s relationship with the US by nationalizing American owned estates and factories. The US was angry this lead to the US not associating with Cuba and Cuba turning to Russia for aid and business
4.The relationship between the USA and Russia was horrible they were rivals and war enemies.
The USA and China’s relationship was stable but Russia and China there were a lot going on there because the Russia and China did not share the same vision.
5.It was used to stop the rivals from continuing the nuclear arm race. And it was used with China when its peoples republic was recognized by the US. Russia and China for trading purposes.
6.When the US intervene in the Vietnam wars, and the country was fighting for its independence from under the French influence. Vietnam was at a weakened state due to the world wars. It wasn’t justifiable because the US did not really help them attain their freedom.
7.Salvador’s policies were not effective. His policies killed the economy instead of improving it. The government lacked funding for social reforms which lead to the people going on strikes.
8.The civil war was cause in Vietnam due to the the president Ngo Dinh decided to not create preparations for the elections for all the states. the US did not want Vietnam to go communist so they did not just followed the policies that Dinh created.
9.Truman thought that the South Korea was in needed of assistance and went and and help them he send troops to the south which created conflict with Russia. Due to the Fact that Russia was helping the North Korea.

Assess the significance for the development of the Cold War between 1945 and 1950 of three of the following:
ReplyDeleteThe Yalta Conference, 1945
The Iron Curtain speech, 1946
The Truman Doctrine and the Marshall Plan, 1947
The expulsion of Yugoslavia from the Soviet block, 1948
The Berlin Blockade and Airlift, 1948-1949
The formation of NATO, 1949.
The development of cold war between 1945 and 1950 happened due to the Berlin Blockade and Airlift and the Truman doctrine of NATO and finally the Iron Curtain Speech. I say this because the getting a new leader for the Soviet was an event that lead towards the end of the cold war there was a new leader who came into the Soviet Union. His name was Gorbachev, he was the fourth leader while Reagan was president. He enforced many new policies. At the time between the two countries there were a lot of extreme tensed relations, before he took power in 1985.Berlin wall this was an event that lead towards the ending of the Cold war. The Berlin wall was built by the USSR for the advantage of power. They wanted to stop the flood of refugees from the east to the west. This wall had a lot defusing for Berlin. It was very disastrous, although the USSR owned it, they did not want to rebuild it. There was millions of people dying trying to go over or under the wall. As the Cold War began to cross Eastern of europe thats when changes in relations happen in the West.
