ReplyDeleteWhat does China and India think is women's place in society?
Both societies think that women, upon marriage, are no longer part of their families and are now “owned” by the husband’s family. In both societies, the wife loses her family name and adopts her husband’s family name; the bride’s family name is lost in marriage. The Chinese and Indian people believe men are more valuable than women
Describe China's one child policy. When was this policy put in place? Was it voted on? Is it still in effect today?
China’s one child policy (or in rural areas, two child policy) states that a couple can only have one child. In rural areas, the couple is allowed to have a second child if the first is a girl. If a couple has a child beyond the limit, they are either heavily fined, forcibly sterilized, the child is forcibly aborted, or the child is confiscated. The policy was formally instated in 1980, created and presented by Chairman Mao without any voting. The policy was intended to be in effect for 20 years to curb the exponential population growth, although it is still in effect today.
Describe India’s population policy?
India today has no real population policy per-se, although it has policies that outlaw certain practices which promote a disparity in male:female ratios. Such as ultrasounds being illegal, abortion being restricted, and the practice of dowry being outlawed. However, in the 1970s, forced sterilization for men was implemented by Indira Gandhi.
Albeit not a true formal policy, Indian health workers today favor sterilization of women over any other family planning alternative, and offer compensation for the procuedure to the patients (De Bode). In India, rural women with less education and family planning information are regarded as “irresponsible breeders” by politicians and lawmakers (De Bode).
Why are Indian women victims of sterilization?
Usually, they are forcibly sterilized by their families/husbands when they fail to yield sons. Otherwise, poverty forces them to undergo the procedure thanks to the government compensation for sterilization of $23 (De Bode).
Describe how both India and China's population policy may be considered sexist?
The Chinese population policy is sexist in that it allows a second child if the first one is a girl, making exceptions to the law only when the first child is a daughter suggests that girls are regarded as less valuable and “chance mistakes” of sorts.
The frequency with which Indian institutions seek out women to sterilize is sexist in that they prefer give men more choice whether to be sterilized or not (De Bode).
The most blatant sexism in both countries comes from a cultural point of view, not so much in a political one.

Woman in China and India
1.Woman’s place in society in countries like China and India are very poor. Woman are treated in such a way that could be known to be as brutal and the level of degradation is something beyond human understanding. Woman in India and China are seemed to be looked down upon and a form of “vessel” to be used to just work at home and give birth to children; prefered boys. These countries believe that women’s jobs are to do these things because nothing else is expected from them. Even those that live away from a poor economic condition are looked down upon. This is something that has been cultural implemented so it is very difficult and rare to see a man treat a woman any better than an animal.
2.China’s one child policy was implemented in the country in the late 1970’s. the Chinese government wanted to reduce China’s birth rate and try to slow down the population growth rate. Since China was a communist state and still is, the government decided on this because the people couldn’t have a word or else things would bring down a chaos riot. Today, the One-child policy is still in effect but traditionally they would like to have a boy. The policy is changed as the couples could have another child under rights and paper work but, if the couple decides to have another child, there would be a force abortion, as having a third child as far more illegal than two.
3.Since the Indian government has been active about the population growth since 1970’s, the government in India has not successfully come up with a 100% policy that restricts how many children a woman can have to manage the country’s population growth but the only way that it is being controlled is the choices that are being made every day by women who are pregnant. Even if the government has become economically stabled, they still choose cheap campaigns to promote sterilisation as going to villages and telling women what to do is at a very high cost (as they say). If the baby that the woman is pregnant with a girl, they choose to kill it as traditionally, the female is looked down upon as an expensive thing for the family to carry and if it were a boy they would keep it as the boy is looked to be the worker of the family, the one who would hold the name of the family up high and take care of his parents when they are older.

ReplyDelete4.Indian women tend to become victims of sterilization because of how India’s traditional society is structured. Men have taken on the job to push women to be taken to doctors to see if the women would conceive a boy or a girl. This process is sometimes done illegally which then if the woman does have a girl, the men would push her to have an abortion. When the first child is a girl, some women want to keep the child but they become very attached to the child. The men would not want this as the way the society is structured, this would bring a lot of problems to the family (as they say) and the process of sterilization would occur.
5.Many countries may argue that India and China’s population policy may be ‘sexist’ because of the way they have came about their cultural biases and traditions. Men are considered to be the ones who will keep the families fortune (or what they have), work hard and have a place in society and when his parents become old, he would take care of them (traditionally speaking). now, Woman, if kept are a burden for the family because as they grow, they would have to marry a man and she will become part of his family, the parents of the girl will have to give a present(s) to the man as this is a traditional custom to do (mostly in India). So what does this mean for the family? The would lose a member, the parents will become poor and they would not have someone to take care of them when they get older. This what China and India’s society has been build upon for years. This is a mind set up that it is ‘sexist’ because as of today, there are thousands of women who have become big and important influential figures in the world which is why the whole idea of women not being “something” is totally sexist.

Women in China and India
1. What does China and India think is women's place in society?
Something that China think’s is a women’s place in society is that the way that they see it is that “family” is the most important thing for society. So basically for China they want the women to have children because the family is was makes the society. One thing I found out is that family for them is also an important “economic unit”. For India what they think is a women’s place in society is that it has been subjected to “ many changes in the past few millennia. The woman in the modern india were able to hold good job’s such as “ offices in india”. But for the other women they still suffered from “rape, dowry killings, and the forced prostitution”.
2. Describe China's one child policy. When was this policy put in place? Was it voted on? Is it still in effect today?
China’s one child policy is the family planning policy. It is known for the control policy of the “people republic of china”. This policy was introduced in 1978 and it was to make it easier to endure the social, economic, and environmental issues in China. It was voted on because they “enacted” it on 1980. No it still not in effect today as much as before.
3. Describe India's population policy?
India’s population policy is that there has not been any formulated policies to handle the “countries human policy growth”. This had caused a lot of aggressive people to target the man and to set some mark of family planning. India had the worlds highest rate of female.
4. Why are Indian women victims of sterilization?
The reason why Indian women are victims of sterilization is because there have been women that had died due to “tainted” medication. That would be the reason to blame for their death.
5. Describe how both India and China's population policy may be considered sexist?
India's and China’s population policy may be considered sexist is because they both want boys. They want the boys because the boys are the workers. If they found out that they were having a girl they will tell the parents to either abort or kill the baby when it is born.

What does China and India think is women's place in society?
-In China it was suppose to make a women stay home and clean. It seems that they had little rights and education was key for them. The age gap was really big since a girl child would of been killed. Society was horrible for China, just like in India how they would kill them or abuse them. In India there was a dowry that would affect a marriage or even worse if they would of got divorce it would ruin the family. In the documentary this is what happen in which the family started to treat the lady as a disappointed.
Describe China's one child policy. When was this policy put in place? Was it voted on? Is it still in effect today?
-The one kid policy was meant to slow down the growth rate that was booming. The policy said you can have a girl at first then you can try again for the boy. If it was a girl again you would have to get rid of it because of this rule. You can either do that or pay for your child which is just pitiful. It was placed in 1978 and it was by Mao Zedong. Yes, this is still in place today because of the growth that is happening.
Describe India's population policy?
-India had a policy to get your daughter marriage but it was hard the reason why some girls died. The man to girl ratio was very large so of course the man had more power.
Why are Indian women victims of sterilization?
-The Indian womans were victim of sterilization because of of the child they would have conceived, because it was hard to keep a baby that is a girl. It seems also that they don't feel bad because there thinking of the future when the baby girl grows up, how hard it’s going to be to get married and survive. To them, yes it’s a sin but they have to do what they have to do.
Describe how both India and China's population policy may be considered sexist?
-There both consider sexist because of the mass population of the boys that are there. Meaning that the power was suppose to be equal but its not, the men have all the power and the women's are still trying to fight for their power but its not working. Like I said this is all happening because the men are the breadwinners and the girls are just there as “things” There is no respect for a women or rights what makes it sexist for both China and India.

What does China and India think is women's place in society?
- From what I watched, The womans who are in the present who gives birth are womans made to create babies. Specifically, men expects their woman to give birth to men only, but Why? Because men are stronger, they aren’t going to leave the family once they’re married and they will value the family more for some reason. Both of these nations are more of a meninist nation, they prefer men than woman.
Describe China's one child policy. When was this policy put in place? Was it voted on? Is it still in effect today?
- In China, the one child Policy was introduced in 1978 and over many years, the policy went through many changes. They did this because the population in China was increasing at such a rapid pace that they had to do something about it. It was voted on, obviously, China did not have enough resources to maintain everyone away from hunger at that time, for every 5 people in the world, one of them would be from China. The one Child policy is still on today, but in 2013, the policy went through a dramatic changed, you can say it was more relaxed you can say.
Describe India's population policy?
- Since India is a very populated place something has to be done to keep it in control. The did this with the Dowry law that was created all the way back before the British were ruling India, so the Dowry system is actually very very old! The policy was created to keep control on how many children a family can have. Though, right now at the moment, India seems not to have a direct policy, India is still a victim of a very strong sterilization influenced based country.
Why are Indian women victims of sterilization?
- They are always victims of sterilization because the baby they are about to have is a female sex. In India. India is a country who they favor a girl more than a boy. They believed that a boy should be the priority of the country because they say a boy will value their family a lot more than a girl will because once the girl is married they are going to betray their family.
Describe how both India and China's population policy may be considered sexist?
- Of course India and China’s population policy are sexist! Lets put it this way, both countries are based on a influence where the family prefers a boy in their family than having a girl in their family. Both in India and China there are cases where a baby girl is often left out in the streets or just simply ‘thrown away like trash’. Now you don’t see any of this cases but with a baby boy. Now tell me if that isn’t sexist. Of course it is! But at the same time what doesn’t make any sense in China is the ratio of Men and Women, in China there are more men than women meaning its harder for a men to find a woman to marry! because only the boys are favored in their culture.

Both India and China believe that women in society are no help to the contribution of the country and just take up space. The Indian men kill their babies if they are girls or they try to find a way to get rid of them since they think that they will make their lives harder. The chinese men also are in favor of having boys because they think they can help out in families unlike girls. People in china can keep their baby girl if they pay a fine.
The one child policy in China was created in between the early 1980’s and late 1970’s. China’s population was increasing very fast to the point where it’s population was reaching a billion so the government decided to come up with the one child policy. This policy helped to control the country's population increase and minimize it to a slow growth in the population. Today the one child policy isn't that serious and there working to get rid of it.
India doesn't really have a population policy but they they try to control it by sterilizing men and women. The population policy was basically trying to have more men than women because they believe women have less value than men.
Indian women are victims of sterilization because it will save them money in the future since they won't have to be worrying about their child and it will also make their lives easier. This helps to control the population of India which is sort of similar to china because they have a one child policy. So the sterilization of a women in India is to basically control the population and also give them an easier lifestyle since they won't have a child.
Both India’s and china’s policy can be considered sexist because both of them find a way to limit the birth of girls and their women population are slowly decreasing to the point where there are more men in their country. China says they families have to pay a fine while India says they don't want girls at all. This means that both countries are sexist since they see them as a lower value and think less of them compared to men.

1. Women have little to no rights in China and India’s society. They believe they are useless and take up space within the community due to very high populations. Since they enforced the one-child law women weren’t in favor of being born due to the fact that they needed boys so when they grow up they can be used for hard working labor that females can’t. If a family wanted a daughter they’d have to pay a fee.
ReplyDelete2. China’s one-child policy was so that the population growth could be contained because it was growing to rapidly. So now couples who want a family are limited to one child. If your first child is a girl then you can have another child in attempts have a boy. If not then you must abort the child. This policy was enforced 30 years ago september 25, 1980. It had been campaigned after an economic fail that caused a shortage in food after families were encouraged to have more kids (producing 4 kids per family). The policy is still being enforced today but people are fighting to get it abolished.
3. India is very overpopulated just like how China is and just like China, India needed something to help contain the growing population. They had a policy that limited the number of children a family can have dating way back to before the British had conquered and took control of India. Although they don’t forcefully enforce this policy on the family homes in India as they do in China, they do lean towards and enforce the sterilization.
4. Just like the females in China, the females in India are pressured and sometimes forced into undergoing a sterilization process if they child they’re having are a female and not a male. They were forced to undergo this process because males can carry on their family name or even be used for hard labor whereas females can’t.
5. No matter how you look at this policy of one child per family, the fact that they prefer the males over females is sexist. Males can carry the family name but to an extent the female can pass the family name to their child as well. Females can even work hard enough to do just as much work as a male can in any environment. So this is sexist to the fact that they’d favor a male over a female, life is life - you can’t just get rid of a kid due to their sex.

What does China and India think is women's place in society?
1. Women in China and India are possession of either their family or of their husband. They are unwanted in society and are use to gain dowry money or to just bare sons not daughters. Women don't have a voice and the men are the dominant sex.
2. China’s one child policy is the policy that was created by the Chinese government to control China’s population growth during 1980. The policy states that each family is allowed to have one child. If the first child happens to be a boy the famiy is lucky if it is a girl they have to pay a fine and can try again for a boy. The reason behind this is because boy are more favored than girls. If a family has a girl they must pay a dory when she gets married and also her family loses a member and the family name, while with a boy the parents get the dowry, the son stay and helps the family. The policy is still in effect today but the government is more lenient on the subject.
3. The Indian government created the population policy due to the fact that the India had a vast increasing population. Many attempts were introduced and practiced to decrease the rate of the population. During the 1950s the government thought making birth control and protection available would slow down the rate but that did not happen inside it increased. This lead the Indian government to go to extreme measures of creating a five year plan of force sterilization to decrease the population growth. Due to this many pregnant women had to kill they're born or unborn babies that were mostly girls.
4.Indian women are victims of sterilization because Indian society female babies are not wanted male babies are the sex that is most favored. Female babies are often killed because it is expensive to have daughters. The female’s family have to pay a dowry to the daughters husband's family when she gets married and the female's family loses a member and the family names dies down. Female are viewed as a burden and baby girls are killed off before they are born or right after birth by their mothers. Women are worth much less than an animal. Female babies are either killed or abandoned and in India it okay to kill your daughter because she is viewed as the disease of the family which makes them inferior to men.
Describe how both India and China's population policy may be considered sexist?
The population policy only favors the birth of male babies because they can carry the family name, because the child is a male the parents don’t have to pay and they can work and help support the family. While female babies are killed either before birth or after birth. They are viewed as a burden.

1. What does China and India think is women's place in society?
-- Women in China and India had no society place. In India, men used women to gain dowry money from the woman's family. In both countries, women major job was to give birth to children and the family only wanted son not daughter. In India, people believe boy can do hard work and help support family instead when girls marry the parents had to pay a good amount to the men to marry your daughter.
2. Describe China's one child policy. When was this policy put in place? Was it voted on? Is it still in effect today?
-- China’s one child policy put in place in the late 1970s. The one child policy allowed family to have one child only. If the family had a daughter as their first child, a big chance for them to try to get a boy because in Chinese tradition families expect boy not girl, they think boy will stay home to work hard to support family living. But when girls grow up, they will get marry and move to the husband family and it means that a married daughter is like the spilled water, no longer belong to her parents. The one child policy still in effect today but it become a little bit more easygoing. Now, families can have a second child. But due to the cost to raise a child, many families choose to have one child.
3. Describe India’s population policy?
-- India needed policy to keep population in control. Before the British control India, the Indian government created the dowry law to keep family's birth rate under control. The law is old and did not work out well. The government also try to provide citizens some sort of birth protection and control but it didn't work out either. As of today, India really had no real population policy.
4. Why are Indian women victims of sterilization?
-- Indian women are victims of sterilization because boys are the families favor not girls. In India, most of the newborn female babies got killed right away the reason why to killed is because it's expensive to raise a baby, girl can't stay home her whole life to support her elder parents and when the girl get marry the parents had to play an amount of dowry to the husband to marry their daughter. Other reasons are after the girl married the family lose a member and no one can help carry on the family's last name. But if is a boy everything will change, boy can help support family and will carry the last name to the next generation. If the family found out is a baby girl, they will killed right after birth or killed after they do the ultrasound test. Anyway, in India's perspective they think baby girl will bring bad things to family and caused family economic problems.
5. Describe how both India and China's population policy may be considered sexist?
-- Both India and China's population policy consider sexist because both country favor baby boys not baby girls because boy can help and work to support family, carry the last name to the next generation and the family will get dowry from the girl that will marry their son. But baby girl viewed as burden in both countries especially in India, as it mention before baby girl would killed it either before birth or right after birth.

1. What does China and India think is women's place in society?
In India, the position of women is portrayed as being inferior than men. The women in India are considered so inferior that they were said to be on the same level as the Sudras, which was the lowest of the four castes. Women in India were not granted freedom and were displayed as if they did not deserve respect. Indian women had to be under the control of someone. When they are young, they are controlled by their parents. When they are in their youth, they are controlled by their husbands. When women become old, they are watched by their sons. They are only thought of as housewives and nothing more. Women in China are not as tied down as women in India.
2. Describe China's one child policy. When was this policy put in place? Was it voted on? Is it still in effect today?
China's one child policy was put into effect in the early 1980s. The reason for this policy is to decrease China's population growth. The policy is considered the most hated in China due to the restrictions of not being able to have more than one child. The country had to force abortions, expensive fines, and sterilization when the policy was becoming unsuccessful and going downhill. The policy was enforced by the Chinese Communist Party.
3. Describe India's population policy?
Population policies plans in India began in the 1930s. The National Planning Committee made a decision in 1940 that said the state needs to plan for families and Welfare policies so that India's economy would be stable. This policy was also to limit the amount of children in India. In 1951, the policy was improved and stated that family and welfare planning was essential for healthy mothers and children. In 1977, there was a new policy enforced called the National Population policy where education and health was enforced upon people.
4. Why are Indian women victims of sterilization?
The reason why Indian women are victims of sterilization is mainly because of sexism. The act of sterilization is a form of dehumanization and is unjust. It is taking away a human life. Baby boys are favored due to them being able to work later on in life and support their families. If an Indian women ends up getting pregnant with a baby girl, then they would be aborted or killed after being born. Baby girls are viewed as an economic burden because they have to pay a dowry and give gifts to their husbands family.
5. Describe how both India and China's population policy may be considered sexist?
Both India and China's population policy is definitely considered sexist. At the end of the day, baby boys are favored over baby girls. Baby boys are consider more superior and more useful than baby girls. Boys carry on the family name and work to support their families. Girls are aborted or killed just because they are viewed as weak and are not able to work to support their families. In China, there are more males than females and that is considered a huge problem. The smaller population of females means that men may not be able to find wives in the future because the gender ratio is not equal or even close to equal. The unequal gender ratio prompts families to kidnap girls in order to have a female to marry their sons.

1. What does China and India think is women's place in society?
ReplyDeleteBoth China and India have the same views on what women’s roles should be in society. Women face discrimination. As children in China they are fed less than males, they are not allowed to attend school and they are denied hospitalization. Women in China as teenagers they are forced to be in a rearranged marriage. If their husbands die, they are not allowed to keep his inherence. It has to go to his sons. In India women are offered extremely low quality education. Women are not allowed to go to the hospitals unless they have severe pain. The women do 59% of the work. They work 14 hours a day and deal with items one and one half times their weight. In both countries the women are treated horribly!
2. Describe China's one child policy. When was this policy put in place? Was it voted on? Is it still in effect today?
The one child policy was made because the population in China was too high for the community to have a fair share. In 1979 the government forced the one child policy which was that couples could only have one child. If they had another child that was undocumented and the police found out, they would be fined thousands of dollars. If the couples wanted to have another child they would have to apply for it. In order to be qualified to have another child, the couple’s first child would have to be a girl or the child would have to be mentally disable. As of 2013, the one child policy is relaxed. By this I mean that couples can have more than one child but only if one of the parents were an only child.
3. Describe India’s population policy.
The Indian government show an increase of population they believed that the growth would continue and there would be no resources for every single person. They believed that if they stop the growth of the people then the living standards would be better. The national population policy was implemented in 1976. As the years went by the enforcement become stricter. They would just abandon the babies or just kill it right after it’s born.
4. Why are Indian women victims of sterilization?
In the earlier years men were forced to be sterilized. However, in the mid-1900s the government changed it around and made the women be victims of sterilization. If the males want to get sterilized they are paid 33 dollars. The females were not aware of the procedure, there was a risk of the female dying. Which led to many deaths. The women were victims because “vasectomies are safer, medical experts say, than the operation women undergo, which involves cutting and tying fallopian tubes through a keyhole-sized opening in the abdomen.”
5. Describe how both India and China's population policy may be considered sexist?
The China’s population policy may be considered sexist because the only way a couple can have a second child is if the first one is a girl. So if it was a boy, the couple could not have a second baby. The Indian’s population policy may be considered sexist because the males have an option to be sterilized. The women on the other hand have no choice. That have to do it. That is not fair.

•What does China and India think is women's place in society?
-In China and India the women's place is to be at home taking care of the children and keeping the home in good condition. In both of the countries women are profound to be their husbands “property” and is to be submissive unto their husbands and give birth to their children. Unfortunately, if a women does not give birth to a male son then her status is low ranked. In both of the countries it is an important part of the family to have a male child. Women rights are limited and sometimes abused if they don’t give birth to a male child.
•Describe China's one child policy. When was this policy put in place? Was it voted on? Is it still in effect today?
-This one child policy is a limit towards every family in China, where you can have one child per family. Traditionally, males should be the sex of the child so that it can carry on the family's name or legacy. China’s one child policy was created on September, 25,1980 at least 30 years ago. This policy was not necessarily voted on , but due to how bad the economy was the government wanted to control the rate of population by reducing the amount of children a family can have. Even until this day this policy is still in effect, but there is a lot of disagreement for this policy that is still going on until this very day.
•Describe India’s population policy?
-Since the rate of India’s population is high the government had made several attempts by trying to control it. One of those attempts included tube tying of females, so that they could stop producing babies or either birth control. There has been many “massive sterilization programs” that the women can participate in. The government wanted the increase of males to happen and decrease of women to happen in the country.
•Why are Indian women victims of sterilization?
•Indian women are victims of sterilization because men are more dominant then the females. In India males are preferred than females. Majority of baby females are killed immediately because of their sex. The society is sexist and thinks of females as being a burden upon their families due to the fact that when she gets married she will leave her home. So she really wouldn't be a good use for the family. Since women deal with the pressure of having baby boys they become victims of sterilization, so that they could stop making babies and not be in shame of their husband.
•Describe how both India and China's population policy may be considered sexist?
-The reason why both India and China population policies may be considered sexist is because in both countries men are favored the most. Women are considered to be “burdens” and not valuable their eyes. They both believe that boys can “carry on the family's legacy” and girls could not because as she grows up she will leave her home and get married.

The women of China and India have always been downgraded due to old traditions and practices. These two countries were established on patriarchal fundamentals, where most things were ruled by men. In most marriages, the males have authority over the land and makes the decisions while it was considered normal for women to express nothing but humble obedience. Upon being married, women are often pushed to be a part of her husband’s family and therefore cannot carry on her family’s name.
2. The one child policy act is a policy in China that limits most families to having only one child. It was created on September 25,1980 by the Chinese communist party. The one child policy was enforced by the government and was only intended to last 20 to 30 year however, this policy is still practiced today.
3. India to this day has no legitimate policies in regards to their population but sterilization has been highly promoted through campaigns. Since the 1970s, programs have been established to teach poor women how to use contraceptives less expensive than those promoted in the campaigns. India has the highest rate in women sterilizations which is 37% compared to china's 29%.
4. Women are victims of sterilization because it is typically frowned upon for men to get sterilized in Indian culture which makes sterilization more geared towards women. The act of sterilization is also enforced by the husband at times as well
5. China's population policy can be seen as sexist because boys have always been preferred over girls due to ancient traditions. You are aloud to try for another baby if your first one was a girl which gives off the impression that girls are an inconvenience. India doesn't have an official population policy so it can't really be seen as sexist. India also tries to educate both men and women about family planning, contraceptives, and sterilization methods.

What does China and India think is women’s place in society?
India and China think women’s role in society was to breed male babies and not females. Women in these countries are not really a working force they stay home and clean the house and cook for when the husband comes home from a long day of work. China and India seen women as less than human beings.
2. Describe china’s one child policy. When was this policy put in place? was it voted on? is it still in effect today?
The China’s one child policy is a policy put into to place to keep a limit on the population of the people in the republic of china. The policy was introduced in 1978 by the leader of china at that time which was Mao Zedong’s and the administrative group that carried the plan out was the National Population and Family Planning Commission. The law was not voted on because it was forced on by the people. The original plan was for the law to be a one year thing than it changed to just staying in place until Mao banned it. The law was enforced mostly to the rural areas of China. Yes the one child policy is still in effect today it is just not as harsh as it was back then. For example it is called the “social child-raising fee” it is basically taking a certain amount of money from your annual pay. it is different for every social class.
3. Describe India’s Population policy?
India to this day has no legitimate policies in regards to their population but sterilization has been highly promoted through campaigns. Since the 1970s, programs have been established to teach poor women how to use contraceptives less expensive than those promoted in the campaigns. India has the highest rate in women sterilizations which is 37% compared to china's 29%.
