The Troubles, 1968 - 1998, a civil war which lasted three decades. Throughout, the thirty years, violence in the city of Northern Ireland was indeed very common and overflowed into territory Britain, the Republic of Ireland and as far abroad as Gibraltar.A few attempts were made to discover a political solution which failed until the Good Friday Agreement, which restored government towards Northern Ireland and brought an end to the Troubles. The Spanish Civil War, 1936 - 1939, in where over 500,000 individuals were slaughtered in the Spanish Civil War so this can't be viewed as a small war that was eclipsed by the issues that were happening in Europe throughout these years. The Troubles and The Spanish Civil War both had different reasons in why each war started. The Troubles in this case began due to it being a territorial conflict and not a religious one. Politics and violence weren’t easily achieved. While on the other hand, The Spanish Civil War began due a huge amount of high ranking officers in the military believed that the fair government was inclining too far to the left along these lines they took matters into their hands by beginning an riot. This was during a period when the rightist development was on the ascent and it appeared to numerous to be the method for what's to come within the following years. Even though, The Troubles lasted three decades and the Spanish Civil War only lasted three years, they both had a few similarities. The Troubles, the objective of the unionist and overwhelmingly Protestant dominant part was to remain some piece of the United Kingdom. The objective of the patriot and republican, practically only Catholic, minority was to wind up a piece of the Republic of Ireland. While , The Spanish Civil War dealt with the Nationalists and Republicans separately. The Nationalists held the point of interest as in the individuals who battled for them were experts the "volunteers" from Italy went to battle with Mussolini's regard and a large portion of these volunteers had a military foundation. The Republicans depended on true volunteers, numerous held hopeful convictions yet had barely any military training. I believe both groups were formed to rebel the existing government due to the fact that around this time not only were these wars going on but also things like the Great Depression, countries fighting for territory and people trying to get their war regardless if violence is involved.

-Northern Ireland and my war which is the Chinese Civil War had similiar and diffrent conflicts while going into war. One similar action was the marches that Ireland had, the Communists in China also had a march to rally in people so they can get on their side. The times are diffrent as well, china had their problems 1911-1946 while Ireland was 1968-1998, but both took a long time to end. Another similar action that played, was there was two sides for example Ireland had unionists and loyalists just like China had the nationlists and communsist. Battling against eachother, affected the people and even so the economy. All they wanted is to make their points known, even if they had to battle. I know in my war that the CPC was better than the KMT, so that's why they won. There are rebels because some people just don't like the rules that are set to follow, so they rally against it. Although this cause problems, rebels are groups as well that just want their voice to be heard.

What are the similarities? What are the differences? Why are groups formed to rebel against the existing government?
The “Thirty years of conflict in Northern Ireland” and the Spanish Civil War are conflicts quite different from each other. Just by its name, the conflict in Northern Ireland lasted for a long depressing 30 years of a negative atmosphere in the Northern part of Ireland which started in October 5 1968 and it ended on April 10 1998. Meanwhile the Spanish Civil war started July 16 1936 and it was over March 18 1939 which sums up to be almost three years. If you think about it when it comes to casualties at the end of these conflicts or war, the Spanish Civil War would obviously win, The Spanish Civil War at the end it had a stunning amount of over 450 thousand killed which includes soldiers, civilians and others, the troubles of Northern Ireland only had no more than 45 thousand casualties which included rebels, civilian and others. The Spanish Civil War was fought by two very powerful right and left sides, one side was the Republicans meanwhile the other side was the Nationalists, what were the cause for these sides to fight in a civil war? It all started when the Republicans took over the government which ended the form of Monarch which was used before the republicans came in, this created lots of problems for examples, multiple regions in Spain wanted complete independence, the Roman Catholic religion was completely against the republicans and so on, to make it simple and short to understand, the republicans wanted to change the way of living in which the populations (including some people in the army, the catholic religion and more) we're completely against it, at some point people got tired of it and actually wanted to fight back which also includes the army itself, Catholics and industrialists. So it started an army was created by General Franco which ended up to be the nationalists and the republicans once again was reelected in the government and the war started when Franco took over control of the military to overthrow the government of Spain. Now when it comes to the 30 year conflict in Ireland, its a bit different. To make it short and simple to understand, the northern part of Ireland was under the rule of the British, one side of northern Ireland wanted independence from Britain meanwhile another side of northern Ireland did not want independence and thought it was better for the country’s future to stay with the British. It is common sense that both of these sides hated each other and when this happens it meant conflicts, riots and rebels taking in action on the streets to protests for their rights. At the end the Spanish civil war was a war fought with people of its own country, it was fought by the nationalists and republicans together with foreign involvement on both sides (relevant to my question!) meanwhile part of northern Ireland wanted independence while the other part did not causing a long lasting 30 years of small conflicts caused by rebels which finally came to an end with an agreement.

My topic: Spanish Civil War
The Troubles and the Spanish Civil War have a few similarities. First of all, the Catholic Church, to an extent, played a role in both Wars. In Ireland, the Catholic minority was oppressed by the Protestant majority and granted unequal voting opportunities. In Spain, the Catholic Church was worried by the Republicans’ anticlerical policies and desire to take away its political power; as a consequence they sided with the Nationalists and used their moral authority to convince people to side with the Nationalists.
The main difference is the reason the wars were fought. The Spanish Civil War was fought to bring an absolute change in the political structure of Spain. Franco sought to take down the Republican/Socialist government and replace it with a military dictatorship. The Irish Troubles were focused around the Separatist vs. Unionist conflict. The Catholic Nationalists wanted to separate Ireland from Great Britain, whereas the Unionists (or Loyalists) wanted to remain a part of Britain. Moreover, the conflict came as a result of oppression and disregard towards the Catholic people of Northern Ireland and giving privileges to the richer Protestant population of Southern Ireland.
Rebel groups arise when the existing government neglects, oppresses, displeases, or harms the group the Rebels belong to. Another factor that contributes to the rise of rebel groups is education, a group without education, or simply “too dumb to complain” usually won’t initiate much of a rebellion. Education, especially college education, brings new and radical concepts and/or ideas to the group which leads them to organize and break out a rebellion.

There are many differences and similarities between the Thirty Years of Conflict in Northern Ireland and the Chinese Civil War. For starters, the Conflict in Northern Ireland lasted longer than the Chinese Civil War. It was nine years longer than the Chinese Civil War. Another difference between these two wars was the amount of casualties. Even though the Conflict of Northern Ireland was longer that the Chinese Civil War it didn't have the most casualties. The Northern Ireland war had 50,000+ casualties while the Chinese Civil War had 7,500,000 casualties. A similarity between these two wars was that groups were involved. In the Chinese Civil War there were two groups. One group was called the Kuomintang (KMT) and the Communist Party of China (CPC). The Conflict of Northern Ireland also had group involvement. Those groups were the Ulster Unionist Party (UUP), the Nationalist Sovial Democratic and Labor Party (SDLP), the centre-ground Alliance Party, and the Democrtic Unionist Party (DUP). A difference between the groups of both wars was that the Conflict of Northern Ireland groups had agreements while the Chinese Civil War groups didn't. An example of an agreement involved in the Northern Ireland war is the 1973 Sunningdale Agreement. I think groups are formed to rebel against the existing government because of injustice. The government isn't always fair and groups are created to fight against what they think isn't fair. I also think groups are formed so people are able to join groups that share the same beliefs as they do.

The Troubles is a thirty years conflict in Northern Ireland. It was caused by the civil rights march in Londonderry and ended by the Good Friday Agreement. During the war, the unionists and the Protestant goal was to remain part of the United Kingdom. And the goal for the nationalist and the republican was barely only Catholic. But the Chinese Civil War began in 1927 and ended in 1950. The Chinese Civil War was a struggle for control of China and it was caused by the conflict between the communist and the nationalist. The similarity between both country was the war last so long and it had a lot of deaths at the end. The difference was the Northern Ireland had an agreement involved but the Chinese Civil War does not had one. Groups are formed to rebel against the existing government because the government does not have fair judgements over at the peoples. The groups are created because they want to fight for the unfairness to bring back fair and also they had the same spirit over at their country.

There were many differences and similarities between the troubles in Northern Ireland in 1968-1998 and the Chinese Civil War. One similarity is that in Northern Ireland it was mostly a territorial conflict of the unionist wanted to be part of the United Kingdom and, the nationalist and republican wanted to be part of the Republic of Ireland. The conflict of Northern Ireland had many groups that were involved like the Ulster Unionist Party (UUP), the Nationalist Sovial Democratic and Labor Party (SDLP), the Centre-ground Alliance Party and the Democratic Unionist Party (DUP). In the Chinese Civil War it was kind of the same thing, but a little different with it being a political problem, but it also was a territorial problem with the warlords wanted to dominate China’s country. There were two groups that were trying to change China’s government in the future. the Nationalist (KMT) and the Chinese Communist Party (CPC) that were both worked together until KMT turned on the Communists and caused a huge problem between them two and China that led to the civil war. So there were groups between these two civil wars that were trying to do something for their country and solve their problems. Both of these civil wars were long with the Northern Ireland situation lasting about 30 years and the Chinese Civil War lasting about 35 years, but both of them started in different years, for example the Chinese Civil War was during the years of World War 2 and it was difficult for CPC and KMT to battle each other and battle Japan at the same time. Both of these civil wars were battling each other and it affected so much on their economy and the people that had to go through with many violence and different views of their government. The only difference between the way both civil wars were handling their situations was during the Chinese Civil War, KMT and CPC were able to somehow work out something like doing the First and Second United Front that paused their civil war in order to help China on defeating Japan during WW2, while in the Northern Ireland it was about making their main points be known to their people in Northern Ireland by using violence. I think the reason there are rebels because there could groups that do not like the rules or how something is being run by others and the only way to send a message by noticing them, is trying to rally against it. Even though creating rebels could lead into violence or other problems. it could be the only way of having their voice being heard by others.

The wars I will be comparing and contrasting are The Chinese Civil war and The War in Northern Ireland. A similarity I noticed right away was how long both wars lasted. Both wars were pretty long but the War in Northern Ireland lasted longer. The Chinese Civil War was interrupted by The Second World War where both CPC and the KMT where fighting for the control of the government but had to team up for the duration of WW2 to defeat the Japanese forces trying to annex land from them. Whereas the War in Northern Ireland didn’t have any outside threats stopping them from continuing the war. Both wars had many casualties as well as how both wars had sides in which one party favored in putting the government in a different direction than how the other viewed it, which is another similarity both shared. Another difference these wars had were that peace plans were established to try and stop the war in Northern Ireland unlike how uncooperative both groups were in ending the Chinese Civil war. I believe groups are formed to rebel against the government to be the voice of the people who are suffering from what the government purposes, so by the groups rebelling against the government, it is hopefully only giving the government the option to help those who suffer (but when you have two different groups rebelling against the same government that want two very different things, I believe the solution to the problem is violence, and the group that wins gets their people those benefits).

There are many differences as well as similarities between the Troubles and the Algerian War. On one hand we have the Troubles. The Troubles was a territorial conflict that went on for 30 years, from 1968 to 1998. There were two different goals for this conflict. The first goal came from the unionists, which was to continue being part of the UK. The second goal came from the republicans and the nationalists, which was to be part of the Republic of Ireland. National belonging and identity were to be achieved by democratic and peaceful means. There were about 3,600 people who were killed and many of them who were injured throughout this conflict. The Northern Ireland Parliament proved to be quick for unionists and slow for nationalists, which caused violence and tension between them. There were two different groups, the IRA and the PIRA. The IRA wanted Irish unification and for Britain to withdraw while the PIRA wanted the opposite. Thanks to the Good Friday Agreement, Ireland was given self-government and the conflict ended. On the other hand we have the Algerian war. The Algerian war was a decolonization conflict that went on for 8 years, from 1954 to 1962. The goal for this conflict was for Algeria to gain independence from France. There were many rival movements throughout this war; one of them was the National Liberation Front, known as the FNL. The FNL was the movement that fought to gain independence. Thanks to the negotiations between the FNL and the French, Algeria got its independence. That being said, these wars are similar because they both had a goal for the conflicts and they both had a good/bad outcome. There were many differences, which are mentioned above, and also there were different tactics used in order to achieve their goal. There were groups formed to rebel against the existing government because in both of the conflicts, the countries were not happy with the government that they had. They both wanted their own government.

I will be comparing and contrasting the Algerian civil war with the thirty years of conflict In Northern Ireland ( 1968-1998). In the conflict of Northern Ireland the scale of killing also happened during the Algerian civil war because the French would use torture as a way of getting what they want from the Algerians. The difference between them was that the United Kingdom took control of Ireland from London but during the Algerian civil war the French came in and started to take control of things and anyone who went against them would be either tortured or killed. They also dedicated the day Good Friday after the event that happened called Bloody Sunday because a lot of Irish people died on that day because a lot of blood was Lost. Groups were formed to rebel against the government because they were tired of taking orders and being make a fool of by the other nations.

The Troubles
Compare and contrast this civil war to the topic you have chosen.
The troubles was a conflict that took place in Northern Ireland in the late 20th century. that killed over 3,600 people and also injured thousands. this occurred due to the fact that Ireland was trying to find political solution. This conflict lasted 30 years. It inaugurated on october 5, 1968. The Chinese civil war inaugurated in April of 1927 and ended on 1950 due to the establishment of the People Republic of China. There wa an estimation of 7,500,000 deaths during this war.
Think about these questions: What are the similarities? Why are groups formed to rebel against the existing government?
Both of these conflicts were internal conflicts that happen inside countries. Were you had two different parties fighting against each other to better the country. Many people died and many battles took place.
What are the differences?
The troubles was a conflict between the unionist and the nationalist it was a territorial conflict. Both groups had different views to what they wanted Northern Ireland. The Chinese civil war was between the Chinese communist party and the chinese nationalist. This war took place because these two parties were fighting over who should be China’s legitimate governing power. This war was considered an ideological separation war. And during this war the two opposing parties were force to merge and fight the japanese who in 1937 place an attack on China. Than right after it was handle the civil war resumed.

Conflict in Northern Ireland began when the nationalists and republicans disagreed with the unionists. The nationalists believed Italy itself was a nation while the unionists believed that Italy should be with Britain, while Spain’s civil war was caused by who should own territory. The Spanish government believed that the military had too much power and also religion played a part because they believed that the government was didn’t know how to run Spain. Both countries were fighting over who should be in control of territory and they both wanted their independence. In Spain the government attacked anyone who had a lot of power and the military did the same, while in Ireland marches, riots, and violence were used to spread a message. Both civil wars had lasted for a long time and they weren’t small wars because lots of people died. In Spain the war ended because the nationalists had token over and beat the communists. In Ireland the war ended with an agreement, so I think this meant that the Spanish civil was bigger than the Ireland civil war because foreign intervention from Russia, Italy, and Germany was used in order to come up with a resolution. The Ireland civil war just ended with an agreement while the Spanish civil war ended with victory from one side.

Compare and contrast this civil war to the topic you have chosen. Think about these questions: What are the similarities? What are the differences? Why are groups formed to rebel against the existing government?
TOPICS BEING COMPARED/CONTEAST: The troubles of Ireland and The Chinese Civil War.
SIMILARITES
1. During the troubles in Ireland and the Chinese Civil War there were an enormous amount of deaths. Also many people were injured in both events.
2. Of course, in a war there has to more at least more than one group of people fighting against each other. Both, China and Ireland had separate parties fighting against each other. In Ireland the groups were: the Democratic Unionist Party, the Social Democratic and Labour Party, and the Ulster Unionist Party. In China the groups were: the Nationalists and the Communist.
DIFFERENCES
1. The Chinese Civil War occurred from 1927 and lasted till 1936. The troubles in Ireland occurred from 1968 and lasted until 1998. While this Chinese Civil War lasted for 9 years the troubles in Ireland lasted for 30 years.
2. In China, China was dominated by the warlords and in Ireland, Ireland was dominated by the Unionists.
3. Ireland’s cause for the trouble was continue to be a part of the United Kingdom and to get equality for the Catholics. China’s cause for the violence was to gain control over their country.
4. The result in Ireland was the Good Friday agreement and the result in China was the Communist party took control over China.
In my opinion, I believe that groups are formed to rebel against the existing government because of the following reasons:
1. If it is only one person says how they feel about an issue then most likely that one person will not have a standing chance to be heard. However if there are multiple people fighting together for what they want then it is very likely that they will have a voice.
2. One person fighting another group. That one person will never win the battle. We’re talking about one person fighting the government. There has to be a group formed because if there are more people physically fighting another group then there is a better chance of them winning the fight.
3. This reason is very important. Groups were made to rebel against the existing government because as a group, together they can come up with multiple ideas of how the bring down the opposing team.

The Troubles
The times of trouble were a period in history only known for violence and destruction that was brought to Europe because there needed to be a corruption fixed but these 30 years jut proved that sometimes corruption could prevail more than an era of fixing what was wrong. From the march of Londonderry in 1868 to the good day agreement in 1998, seemed like a time were peace was just a legend. There were two groups who caused these conflicts; these were the unionist and the republicans. These two groups had plans for Ireland and since there was no agreement that’s when the trouble came to form. The goal of the Unionist which was composed of a majority of Protestants was to keep Ireland United to the United Kingdom. Then there was the goal of the republicans which were more (exclusively) catholic, the minority voted for becoming separated of the United Kingdom and becoming part of the Republic of Ireland. Although these were groups that were represented by religious groups, this wasn’t a war about religion; this was a civil conflict based on territory. It was two visions that these two groups had for their country but since there was no agreement, there was no peace. The war that I am researching on for my Internal Assessment is the Spanish civil war. The Spanish civil war was fought from 1936 to 1939 (early 1930’s- late 1930’s). This was also based on territory; republicans from the Spanish empire wanted to continue to oppress the territories that were part of the Spanish empire. The rebels from these lands were beyond upset with the way the Spanish empire regime was treating them so they wanted to be independent. Not only were the Protestants being attacked but Catholics were from the republican side which wasn’t at all connected in agreement so that is why they went into war for several years. The similarities that I find here are very limited and are only based on two things, Protestants and Catholics were involved in both wars and also these wars did involve religious persecutions and arguments but again, these were non religious wars. Now, the difference about these wars is that even though both of these wars were involved in Europe there were two different roles that the Republicans and rebels did differently. In The Ireland situation, there were republicans who were composed of republicans that were catholic and Unionist that were protestants were fighting to ether keep the country controlled by another country or to be independent. All in all, the Spanish civil war was just the abuse that the republic gave to the other regions which is why the rebels came to attack. In conclusions, the rebels are formed when the government abuses the government. In the Ireland situation, I don’t think there was abusement to just one group; I think both abusements where equal to each other.

The Troubles thirty years of conflict in Northern Ireland started in 1968and ended 1998.This civil war lasted 30 years and it all started because of territorial conflicts. During this civil war there were as many as 50,000 people that was brutally injured. In 1968 the unionist dominated over Northern Ireland Parliament for more than 45 years. The Catholic had an issue with them because the way they tried and solve political and social issues discriminated against the Catholics. That was the spark between the violence and tension in those two communities. This also led the united kingdom government to intervene. By the time it was 1969, they sent British troops to help solve some conflicts. Since that failed, they tried negotiations with Sinn Féin. Furthermore, the good Friday agreement made a change in Northern Ireland's political landscape.
The "SDLP and UUP agreed to accept power sharing", that began the peace procedures. Now the most positive outcome had happened, the "constitutional opposite had a partnership". So this civil war ended with logical agreements and peace.
My Topic was the Nigerian Civil war, began in 1967 and ended in 196870. This civil war was 4 years, but there were many damage done in this short period of time. This war almost teared up Africa. "Nigeria was composed of semi- autonomous Muslim feudal states in the desert north, and once powerful Christian and animus kingdom in the south and east", that was the main important source where there oil would come, but then it was exploited. Ever since Nigeria created that federal constitution that effected the ethnic groups of three regions in the country, the tensions grew. Not only that, but the military took over and worsened the situation. At least 30,000 Ibo's people were killed. The Biafran forces were pushed back, after the military did the damage. Famine grew and children starved. More and more civilians died innocently. It was a sorrowful ending of the civil war. There were many similarities between the troubles civil war and Nigerian Civil war. For example both wars sparked because of territorial disturbances. Although both wars had different time periods, they had a lot of innocent civilians killed. That's how I can compare and contrast the troubles civil war with the Nigerian Civil war.

Question - Compare and contrast this civil war to the topic you have chosen. Think about these questions: What are the similarities? What are the differences? Why are groups formed to rebel against the existing government?
The Troubles war was a civil war during 1968-1998, it lasted three long decades. In the thirty-years of violence it began with the civil rights that led a march in Londonderry that took place on October 5,1968. In the march the Good Friday Agreement came to a finish on April 10, 1998. During the Troubles over 3,600 people were killed and thousands were injured. Northern Ireland had a discrimination against Catholics. My topic is on The Spanish Civil war which was on 1936 to 1939. It was fought by the republicans that were loyal to the democrats that were elected in the Spanish Republic and the Nationalist which was a rebel group that was led by General Francisco Franco. They fought for control of the countries they wanted to gain respect. The troubles was somewhat different because they had issues that were never resolved in 1998. The Unionist and overwhelmingly Protestant had a goal to remain part of the United kingdom. The Nationalist and Republicans wanted to become part of the Republic part of Ireland. The Troubles was a Territorial conflict not religious. All of the killing commit by all sides. Over 50,000 people were injured and that caused a lot of psychical damage. Then in 1968 Northern Ireland was dominated by the Unionists. The Northern Ireland didn’t have any interest in solutions of the British and Irish conflict. In 1972 the Uk government had collapsed and then the British took part in the Northern Ireland war. When the Sunningdales Political institution collapsed it cause Northern Ireland to standstill. The difference between the Troubles and the Spanish Civil War is that the Troubles lasted decades and the Spanish war only lasted three years. The Spanish civil war dealt with the nationalist and republicans separately. Unlike the Troubles did it differently. They both dealt with a lot of issues but some were unsolved but they sit tried to get through the war.
